## What is AusBUG?

Find a calmer way to ride around Australia. AusBUG plans bike routes with traffic stress in mind, combining road information with riders’ local knowledge. Explore trails, check reported hazards and find rides with local groups.

LOW STRESS, BY DESIGN
Low Stress routing looks beyond distance. Road speeds, lanes, bike infrastructure and crossings help shape your route. It is designed to link you with signalised crossings and lower-stress connections over busy roads, rather than choosing by distance alone.

Riders can vote on road stress and suggest corrections. Reviewed community ratings help improve the routing, bringing local knowledge into the picture.

PLAN YOUR RIDE
Choose Low Stress, Bike Paths, Bike Lanes or Roads. Quickest offers more direct cycling and may use busier roads; Walk uses pedestrian routes. Add stops and compare distance, climbing and route options before you set off.

SEE THE NETWORK
Explore bike paths, lanes and traffic-stress colours. Traffic stress and surface condition are different: a quiet path can still be rough or unpaved. Walking links are shown separately where available.

FIND YOUR NEXT RIDE
Browse route collections with photos, maps, surface information and elevation details. Discover local loops, rail trails and longer days out, then save a route for later.

RIDE WITH YOUR COMMUNITY
Find community rides, events and cycling groups. Follow organiser links for the latest details, eligibility and booking information. Coverage varies by region.

NATIONAL HAZARDS, UPDATED DAILY
Hazard and disruption information is updated and mapped daily, bringing works, closures and riders’ observations into view across Australia. The route planner automatically detours around active mapped closures approved for routing. Add reports, updates and comments to share local knowledge. General hazard pins do not all trigger a detour. Reports and map data may be incomplete or out of date.

USEFUL PLACES ALONG THE WAY
Find mapped water points, toilets and other practical stops for your ride.

LET AUSBUG SUGGEST A RIDE
Choose a starting point, approximate distance and routing preference, then compare suggested loop rides with distance, time and climbing information.

PREVIEW YOUR ROUTE IN 3D
Play through your planned route or scrub along the elevation chart to explore it before you ride.

TAKE YOUR ROUTE WITH YOU
Save routes, follow navigation and export GPX files for compatible devices. Prepare supported routes for offline navigation before heading out.

FREE TO USE
No ads or subscriptions.

AusBUG is a planning aid. Always check local signs, access rules and conditions. A lower-stress route is not a guarantee of safety; some connections may require walking your bike.

### 5/5 — Great for new cyclists

*2026-10-22*

I got back into cycling a few months ago, after nearly 30 years, and have had to re-learn everything. I’m keen but slow and sometimes awkward, and am putting in lots of practice to get better. I love riding on paths but am not roadworthy yet and will happily take the long way to get somewhere. This app has been so handy for suggesting routes that allow me to have fun and avoid cars. Previously I was plotting routes with Google Maps and adding fake stops to get Google to make the super-safe scenic route I wanted, not the efficient route it wanted. This app got my preferred route to work on the first try, no additional stops, once I pressed the button for paths-preferred. And I love being able to find cafes and bike hoops! One suggestion for improvement would be more realistic time estimates based on my actual speed (including lots of stops when things get tricky). And I’d like to be able to correct route segments that I know aren’t quite right. Otherwise it’s brilliant.

### 2/5 — App crashed so many times

*2026-10-12*

Can not enter destination. App crashed and can not be used.

### 5/5 — How is it free?

*2026-09-28*

This app is awesome and has quickly become my go to for planning and exploring. It feels like I should be paying.

### 5/5 — Just awesome

*2026-09-18*

What can I say, a game changer! Cheers Tall Carlos Hemmings Croydon Aus.

### 5/5 — Hard to search

*2026-08-16*

？？？？Why I can not search AusBug before I search VicBUG on the apple store？

### 5/5 — Sensational

*2026-06-10*

Compared to google maps this is far an away ahead. It knows the routes that cyclists love and I love how there is different options for fully on bike paths or a quicker route as well as the ability to upload to Garmin

### 5/5 — Game changer

Want to ride more but not sure how to navigate Victoria? Put in your starting point and destination, plan the route and choose the type of ride you want (bike paths, quickest route or quiet roads) and then send that route to your GPS app or device of choice and get turn by turn navigation. It’s that easy

### 5/5 — Review

*2025-10-29*

I’ve been using this bike map app for first time today and it’s honestly made my rides so much better. The route planning is spot-on and it clearly shows bike paths, shared trails, and quiet back streets. The navigation is smooth and updates quickly if I take a wrong turn. I especially love the elevation info — helps me avoid massive hills when I’m not in the mood.
