## What is AusGuard?

When a storm, burn-off, or flash flood warning goes out for your area, most people hear about it secondhand. AusGuard pulls Australia's official public feeds into one app: weather, warnings, air quality, beach conditions, and the roads you were about to drive on — with the assistant button one tap away on every tab.

WEATHER, FIRE DANGER, AND AIR QUALITY
Minute-by-minute rain, 7-day outlooks, hourly conditions, and a UV timeline from Open-Meteo. Fire danger ratings and total fire ban status come from the state feeds that publish them in machine-readable form, currently NSW and SA. AQI with pollutant breakdowns for PM2.5, PM10, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide from public monitoring networks in NSW, QLD, and SA. Where a feed has nothing for your area, no number is shown, and cached data is labelled with its age.

EMERGENCY ALERTS
Active Bureau of Meteorology land and flood warnings for all eight states and territories. Live bushfire lists from NSW RFS, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, WA DFES, SA CFS, and ACT ESA, each linking back to that service's own feed. Cyclone tracking uses the Joint Typhoon Warning Center advisory; earthquakes come from USGS. AusGuard aggregates public feeds — it is not a government alert service.

BEACH, SURF, AND SHARK SAFETY
Surf, swell, and water temperature for 28 curated Australian beaches, with rip current risk and modelled tide times marked as estimates. Patrol listings reflect each beach's published season, not a live check that volunteers are on the sand today. Shark incident records are live from WA's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development; NSW and QLD listings show where monitoring operates, not live sightings.

TRAVEL AND COMMUTE
Transit alerts and departure boards for NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and WA where the operator's feed is reachable — when one is unavailable the board says so instead of showing an empty timetable. Traffic cameras and disruption lists for NSW and Victoria where their feeds respond, plus a link to every other state's traffic map. Fuel prices for NSW, QLD, and WA. Parking around Sydney and Melbourne.

AI ASSISTANT
Ask about weather, safety, or your plans and get an answer built from local conditions. The suite adds morning briefings, an activity planner with weather scoring, a 0-100 safety risk score for your area, hyperlocal micro-weather, and route weather for road trips. Several provider channels answer at once and the first good one streams in word by word. If a source fails or your location is unavailable, these screens say what failed instead of filling in a number.

WIDGETS AND LIVE ALERTS
Home Screen widgets in three sizes, with circular and rectangular Lock Screen widgets. A live alert card appears while an emergency fire or major flood warning is active for your area.

FREE AND AD-FREE
No ads, and no account needed to read weather, warnings, fires, floods, air quality, beach, or travel data. Optional Pro unlocks the AI tools and lifestyle forecasts.

PRIVACY FIRST
Your location travels with the request that fetches conditions for your area. To run and protect the service we keep an app identifier with device model, app version, language, timezone, request counts, and IP address, and we pass your questions and the conditions used to answer them to our AI providers. No advertising trackers, no selling data, no third-party analytics. Sign-in is optional, needed only for community meetups, and you can delete your account and its records from your profile screen.

IMPORTANT
AusGuard is an independent app, not a government service, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Bureau of Meteorology or any state emergency agency. Alerts come from public feeds that can be delayed, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable. In an emergency, call 000 and follow official instructions — never rely on this app to decide whether you are safe.

Download AusGuard and stay safe out there.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.3 — 2026-10-26

THE FREE CHAT ALLOWANCE, COUNTED THE WAY IT REALLY WORKS

The assistant gives you five answered questions across a rolling 30-day window, not five per day — the badge that promised a daily reset was wrong. It now shows the same number on the chat screen and in Tools, and it only moves when you get an answer. A request that fails, times out, is refused for a bad location, or lands while the service is unavailable no longer spends part of your allowance.

STEADIER WORDING

The daily risk briefing now writes "1 BOM warning active today" instead of "1 BOM warnings active today."

WHAT THIS APP ACTUALLY COVERS

The store description has been rewritten to name the feeds and regions the app really serves: fire danger ratings and total fire ban status for NSW and SA, air quality for NSW, QLD, and SA, surf and tide data for 28 curated beaches, transit boards where the operator's feed responds, and parking around Sydney and Melbourne. Where a source has no data for your area, the screen says so instead of showing a number. The description also states plainly that AusGuard is an independent app that aggregates public feeds — it is not a government alert service, and it is never a substitute for calling 000.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-10-23

HONEST ANSWERS WHEN A FEED FAILS

The AI screens no longer invent data. Previously, if a fetch failed or your location was not available, the morning brief, daily planner, today timeline, risk score, route weather and hyperlocal report filled in a locally generated card instead — plausible-looking numbers, an hour-by-hour table built from the time of day, or a low risk score that nothing supported. They now show what went wrong and let you retry. A risk score only appears when there is a real reading for your location behind it; a missing score is shown as missing, not as "no threats today".

PROTECTING YOUR AI ALLOWANCE

An AI request with a missing or out-of-range location is now rejected before it is counted, so a bad location can no longer spend part of your daily allowance on a request that could never be answered.

CLEARER STALE-DATA WARNINGS

The banner at the top of a screen no longer says you are offline when the real cause was a rejected session or an upstream outage. It names which datasets fell back to cache and how old that data is.

OUTAGES AND AIR QUALITY

The power outage summary now quotes the same unplanned-outage figure it displays, in English and in Chinese. New South Wales keeps its monitoring station list when the observation feed times out, instead of losing the whole state. Queensland commute boards report that the feed is unavailable rather than showing an empty timetable.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-10-21

BUILT FOR BIGGER SCREENS

AusGuard now makes proper use of wide displays. On a large phone or a tablet the home dashboard splits into two columns, tool and activity lists gain columns instead of stretching, and content stays clear of the bar down the side. Portrait, landscape and every width in between are supported.

MORE RELIABLE DATA

Air quality now reports the rating from your nearest monitoring station rather than defaulting to a generic value. The hazard counts on the home dashboard and in your daily summary are scoped to your own state, instead of quietly falling back to a national total when your region cannot be resolved. If one data feed is slow or unavailable, the home dashboard keeps showing the conditions it already has instead of replacing the whole screen with an error. Commute boards now list arrival times for every stop on a route, not just the first few. Shared weather cards keep their local air quality reading. Long labels on index tiles wrap instead of being cut off mid-word.

PRIVACY AND TRUST

A full privacy policy is now available inside Settings, describing what leaves your device and what never does. Deleting your account now also clears your registered devices and push subscriptions.

SMALLER FIXES

Fog risk uses your local time zone instead of a fixed offset. Radar maps no longer plot the same monitoring station twice. Sharing a weather card, a day poster or a workout now reliably opens the share sheet on the screen you are using.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-10

AusGuard 1.4.0 improves live transit information:
- Stops not yet covered by a real-time arrival feed are now clearly labelled instead of appearing empty.
- The commute dashboard shows feed status per stop and weather advisories in your app language.
- Fewer redundant network requests and smarter caching load transit screens faster.

### 1.3.9 — 2026-09-24

What’s New in 1.3.9

• Live train and bus arrivals are back for Brisbane and the rest of South East Queensland.
• Transit screens now clearly say when a network does not offer live arrival data, instead of showing an empty departures list.
• Fixed the App Store link used when sharing weather safety cards.
• Clearer messaging about AI assistant usage limits.
• Reliability improvements to alert and transport data fetching.
