### 4/5 — Reply to review

*2025-09-14*

I am unable to access, “ Word of the Day!” It was something I formally could access, but now unable to? Also some words no “listed.” Such as : akathisia? Overall I am happy 😃👍👌

### 3/5 — Theasaurus problem

*2022-10-27, version 13.2*

I purchased the in-app addition of the Theasaurus but cannot locate that additional content anywhere in the app - please help.

### 4/5 — Original post about IOS8 support answered in an iOS 14 world !

*2021-03-24*

Original post from years ago, received note today that issue was fixed all that time ago, but guards what?! Thanks for getting back to me Dev, as I have now reinstalled the app, it’s working and I have changed my score. 👍

Have used reliably for years but hasn't worked since iOS 8. Crashes when try to search, no updates to engine for years now😠 so not holding out much hope of a solution

**Developer response:** This was a bug after the release of iOS 8. It was fixed.
We couldn't reply to reviews back then, but we are glad you are up and running now.
We are here to please.

### 4/5 — Good dictionary please fix software thief notification!

*2012-11-01, version 4.1.3*

I keep getting the notification: " I am a software thief!" when I have bought this app from iTunes.

### 1/5 — Good app but got abusive notification.

*2012-10-31, version 4.1.3*

I got a notification from the app saying 'I am a software thief!' when I have bought this app. I find this offensive.

### 1/5 — AOD

*2012-06-07, version 4.0*

The update will not load and the whole app is unavailable!
Not good enough for a $32 purchase.

### 2/5 — Could be much better

*2012-04-01*

The dictionary works well enough, but definitions are somewhat lacking - Illustrative examples are few and far between, which is disappointing. Also, the version of the dictionary used seems several years out of date and lacking in lots of proper nouns and persons of note that could be expected in even a single dictionary (Australian Prime Ministers, for e.g.). Oxford should do better for $25, I think this is a much reduced version of the single volume print version.

### 2/5 — Large file short on content, out of date

*2011-10-08*

This is at least the second time where we have downloaded the entire massive 220Meg word database without any content updates. The latest words that are included in the official Oxford dictionary such as "tweet", "muggle" or "cyberbullying" are still missing from this digital dictionary. 2004 seems to be the last update.
No updates to the political section, which still has John Howard as the Prime minister of Australia 1996-, George Bush as the current US president, Tony Blair running the UK etc.
This is not a cheap dictionary and for the money and from people who lay claims to the Oxford name you should expect better.
This offering remains a weak effort and brings shame to Oxford.
There are free/cheaper dictionaries that hold equivalent content to this dictionary.

### 3/5 — Please make a "back" and "fwd" button

*2011-09-16*

While browsing the for the word you're after you then (clumisly) have tap on History (tab) then select from the most recent word. In the next update please make a "back" and "fwd" button to alleviate this issue.

**Developer response:** There is a multi-level "Back" button now.

### 2/5 — OK but dissapointed with the limited sounds

*2011-07-18*

I bought this app so i could definitvely be able to pronounce names of Australian towns, properly. Sadly does NOT give me the proper prounciation (or not even an entry) for reasonably large or famous Australian towns such as TALLANGATTA (in Victoria's North East) or Moruya or even Katoomba.

Other larger places like Wagga Wagga does a fair prounciation sound, but with a distinctly UK accent. Type in Parramatta and you get a very plummy voiced pom pronouncing it - sounds very odd and dare i say it, un-Australian. This aspect is very dissappointing. I hope they fix it up in a newer version. Also in the case of Parramatta, it does not mention where the name comes from or what it originally was thought to mean.

The actually dictionary aspect of it gets a 3 out of 5.

### 3/5 — For the price ...

*2011-07-11*

The depth given for each definition is not as comprehensive as the printed version. It almost appears watered down. That isn't to say I wouldn't recommend this app, it's just that I think there is considerable room for improvement; in definition content primarily.

### 4/5 — App no longer available?

*2011-07-03, version 3.6*

Love this app but with the latest version I cannot update my existing one. No info on dev's site. What gives?

### 4/5 — A Must Have

*2011-04-13, version 3.5.3*

This app is worth every cent, I use it constantly. Don't leave home without it.

### 4/5 — Mr

*2011-03-25, version 3.5*

Over last few months reaching for it increasingly frequently - great dictionary, great app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not a software thief!

*2021-04-05*

I am offended because I allowed the AOD app access to twitter without really questioning why it would need/want access to twitter and it sent a tweet from my account saying that I am a software thief. I have a legitimate copy. Rude.

Update: I received a reply from the developer EIGHT YEARS later saying the bug “was fixed within 24 hours”. Amazing.

Update 2: Developer replied “Just clearing up the facts”. Sure, but the fact still remains this developer did the most irresponsible and despicable thing I’ve ever encountered an iOS developer do - ever.

**Developer response:** Interesting comment. Developers make equally bad mistakes all the time. I wish I could tell you about the the really bad ones Apple has made (causing financial and data loss to users), but we were forced to sign an NDA.
As for the tweets, we asked Twitter to remove the tweets the same day, but they refused.

If you owned a shop, and had more shoplifters than customers, you might put in an alarm -maybe a tongue-in-cheek one- maybe not a perfect one. We had A$20mil taken by pirates. Our answer was a tongue-in-cheek tweet, but he decided against it and thought it was completely removed, but one bit of it sent out false positive tweets for 1000 people. We did what we could, as soon as we could. Sorry you were one of them.

Anyway, thanks to an inaccurate online article (months later) and personal complaints to Apple execs by a certain tenured professor, the third-party review of the case (in which we were cleared) was overturned. I lost my office, my staff, my house, and my family.
So, I guess we are even..

### 1/5 — Can no longer use dictionary

*2015-03-12*

Appalled by the company. The app worked okay for a year but for the past 6 months I have only had it working intermittently. I have had two interactions with support staff, both requiring detailed complex information from, including emailing the receipt to prove I'd bought the dictionary! For goodness sake how hard can it be to keep a simple dictionary app running. Strongly advise against this company.

**Developer response:** We are sure this is working for you now.

### 1/5 — It can not use

*2015-03-01, version 5.0*

I spent $31.99 for this app and I can not use it. How can I get my money back???

### 1/5 — Such a shame

*2015-02-22, version 5.0*

I have used this app for years but since the iOS8 update it crashes every time I want to search. And as a dictionary, it's pretty useless if you can't search for anything. Such a shame. This used to be an awesome app. I hope it gets fixed soon.

### 1/5 — The second severe bug in less than a year. DISAPPOINTING.

*2012-12-26*

After having lost all my bookmarks some months ago after an update, now I'm plagued by a notification which says "Continue". It appears every few minutes and it's related to the audio file download. When I acces the screen where you download the audio file, it does not allow me to resume the download (or to abort it, in case it's running: this is not clear, because there is no progress bar and no information about it) so the notifications just keep coming. This app is disappointing.

**Developer response:** The sound was a bug in iOS 8. It was fixed.
As for your bookmarks, there is an auto-backup feature now, as well as many export options we have added since.

### 1/5 — Avoid this app

*2012-12-19, version 4.1.4*

Because my previous review was deleted due to alleged TOS violations, I'd like to reword it.

This app has a built-in anti-piracy mechanism which posts, without the user's consent, with their Twitter account, "outing" them as a software pirate.

This system recently had a bug which caused this system to spring into action for paying customers like myself, which also, for a time, rendered the app useless until the "bug" was fixed.

As a result, I recommend people avoid apps by this developer.

### 1/5 — It's a waste of money

*2012-11-15, version 4.1.4*

It's definitions are poor and sparse in examples and explanation.

The macquarie dictionary is in another (excellent) universe by comparison. Go there instead.

### 1/5 — Reprehensible anti-piracy checks

*2012-11-13, version 4.1.4*

This version posts libellous (and incorrect) claims on users' Twitter accounts claiming that the user has pirated the product. As a legitimate purchaser of this app, I am disgusted by Enfour's behaviour regarding this most recent update and piracy checks. Not only is the piracy checking code wrong, but the developer has no right to post libellous public comments about its own users. I won't be buying any more Enfour products.

### 1/5 — Frozen screen on the search box

*2012-11-07, version 4.1.4*

Time to time I have this problem and even after updated problem still exists.

### 1/5 — Software thief????

*2012-11-01, version 4.1.3*

I too am getting this notification constantly on my iPhone. I am very annoyed about it. I have paid a lot of money to get this app. I do not appreciate the offensive notifications.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2023-07-06*

It really handy when you need translation with in your mobile no required internet used
I love this app

### 5/5 — An excellent source of meaning

*2021-10-10*

This has to best dictionary for Australians of any age!

**Developer response:** Cheers

### 5/5 — Great dictionary.

*2012-10-04*

Love this app but latest version on 4th gen ipod touch with ios 5.1.1 is constantly showing 'run in safe mode' error msg and crashing. Please fix.

Also, still no landscape keyboard.

**Developer response:** That sounds like a license issue. Our Support Desk will fix it for you.
Landscape is now supported.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2011-06-30*

I first bought this app more than a year ago for my iPod Touch. It was great then, but I am so impressed with the recent update. It's comprehensive, easy-to-navigate and - dare I say it - makes using a dictionary a lot more fun! Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Very good app!

*2011-03-06, version 3.4.2*

I use it to improve my English! Fantastic!

### 5/5 — Very expensive, but you get a lot for your money

*2011-02-17*

This is a quality app which I wouldn't be without. It is very easy to search for words, or browse, and having the audio for pronunciations is brilliant. With so many apps aimed at the American market it is refreshing to see a very Aussie dictionary on offer. I use it all the time, as does my 9 year old daughter.

I bought this for my ipad, unfortunately at x2 it is quite blurry which is understandable. Would love an HD ipad version!

### 5/5 — What an app should be

*2011-01-19*

This is one of the most indispensable apps on my iPhone. It gives me unparalleled access to what I consider one of the top two Australian dictionaries wherever I may be. I even use this in my English classes sometimes, for rapidly accessible definitions. Highly recommended. If only the Macquarie had something comparable ...

### 5/5 — Words on the WWW

*2010-10-21*

Excellent necessary app for anyone working with the Australian version of the English language who can't always get to the cumbersome 2 vols of the hardback version. The audio is a boon and gives confidence to use that new term in speech! But where is "timestamp"?

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2010-07-21, version 0*

Congratulations. A brilliant app. I use it constantly. Superb pronunciation feature and the definitions are brief but excellent.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2010-03-02, version 0*

I use this all the time.
