## What is Authenticator for 2FA & MFA?

The Authenticator app makes two-factor authentication simple. Generate 2FA codes for your accounts, keep your tokens securely stored on your device, and access your codes even when you’re offline.

Key Features

- 2FA Code Generator: Create time-based (TOTP) and counter-based (HOTP) one-time passwords for services that support 2FA.
- Secure by Design: Authentication codes are stored in the iOS Keychain. Optionally lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- Quick Setup with QR Scanning: Add accounts in seconds by scanning QR codes.
- Manual Setup: Enter a secret key, issuer, and account name to add accounts manually.
- Account Management: Add, edit, delete, reorder, and search your accounts anytime.
- Works Offline: Generate codes without an internet connection. Time-based codes refresh automatically.
- One-Tap Copy: Tap a code to copy it. Supports Universal Clipboard so you can paste on your other Apple devices.
- Custom Labels: Edit the service name and account name to make entries easier to recognize.
- Password Breach Check: Securely check whether a password has appeared in known data breaches (internet required). Your password is never sent in plain text.
- Dark Mode: Supports system Dark Mode.
- Clean, Modern UI: A simple interface with a visual countdown for time-based codes.

Security & Privacy

Your authentication codes are stored locally in the iOS Keychain. You can lock access with biometrics or device passcode. No data is sent to external servers except when you choose to use the optional password breach check, which uses a privacy-preserving hashing method.
