Perhaps that may be partly an issue of what is available. I agree with an earlier commenter that it is frustrating that most of the focus on autism resources seem to be catering to a presumed neurotypical audience - parents of children or young adults, who work very hard and advocate and very often have their child’s needs by proxy recognised. Whereas autistic adults without a family carer as proxy, especially who have an inability to self-advocate, so often are under-served, even by those who may be paid to support them. Almost forgotten by so many services and awareness campaigns. Their needs are often not the same as children, even with ID. I disagree with the earlier commenter that autism isn’t a disability - seriously, speak for yourself, not for the vast breadth of those falling under the medical label. Autism, which is extremely common, a few per hundred, is truly a spectrum condition with multiple “causes” and manifestations. Disability isn’t a dirty word, and it doesn’t make a person “less” to need support because they struggle by themselves with living well in their environment, or have medical conditions strongly correlated with autism. No one should generalise from one autistic person to another in terms of any one trait, so autistic people who are unABLE to do the life skills stuff YOU can, shouldn’t mean YOU get assumed to be very disabled. Similarly, the existence of autistic people who are mostly very capABLE in life should not make those who are not get less credibility or services. Overall, this is on the wider world/NTs to sort out and it shouldn’t be a competition/scarcity battle. Btw I am an autistic with (govt funded) carers, and am carer to my son. We need the support we get, but still struggling a lot. ### 4/5 — Good resource *2012-04-23* I have had this app for a while and I have to say it has gotten better and better. It was sluggish in the past, but I find it working much better and I have found some great apps on it. Great job. Thanks!!! ### 2/5 — Has frequent "technical difficulties" *2012-04-21* This is a great collection of apps when u can actually access them. The majority of the time I get a message that they are having technical difficulties. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling. Will be a great resource if the problem is ever fixed. ### 4/5 — Very useful *2012-01-13* Great application the brings together all the autism applications under a single catalog. Could do with some slight improvements: Marking apps as favourites, as there are so many that you cannot download and evaluate them all in one go, so flagging an app would allow you to come back to it later. When reviewing apps and reading an apps details, when you hit the back button it should take you back to where you were on the application list, not back to the beginning. I then contacted support thru email and haven't received any response:( The day I wrote this was also the day I had an email from them. Great resource. ### 5/5 — not just for autism *2011-10-28* This app lists so many apps by categories useful to those dealing with special needs, unlike the iTunes app store, where the categories are just too broad to find what you need. It lists some really great apps and the lists seem to be updated regularly too. A great starting place! I tell all the special needs mums I know of who are getting 'iThings' for the kids to start with this app. ### 4/5 — Pretty Helpful *2011-10-23* Good for parents and therapists. Provides descriptions and overviews of autism related apps, tells you the prices as well. Great for those who just got an iPad iPod and want to use it with individuals with autism And need help building there app repertoire. ### 5/5 — SIMPLY THE BEST *2011-10-17* I have spent countless hours searching for apps for my autistic son (6yrs) since buying his iPad a couple of months ago, and this app does so much of the ‘leg work’ for you, what a time saver. I reckon this should be the first App anyone with a special needs child, or any parent of young children, should download. Even if you've had your device for a while you're still likely to find some new apps by using this one. I'm definitely spreading the word about this one. What a little ripper!!! ### 5/5 — Fantastic, really useful *2011-08-25* At first sight this is perhaps just a listing of other apps, but finding these can be difficult. This app is well thought out, and has apps in classifications. The settings menu allows you to select just apps in one format ie iPad, or more. ### 5/5 — AWESOME!!!!! *2011-08-23* We love this app! It comes in very handy! We can find apps easy to go along with what our daughter is learning in school! Made the mistake of purchasing the timer and there and no editing options, guess what...there are other people with ASD in the world apart from USA, changing the accent would be more than ideal. Really? *2017-04-16* In reference to the earlier Reviewer who doesn't think Autism is a disability. Perhaps you should just speak for yourself and not make such a sweeping statement my friend. Believe me Autism may well be a ''disorder' or whatever you think 'it' is but it can also most certainly be a disability. Some people with Autism can't communicate effectively to have even their most basic needs met, some people who have Autism cannot leave the house because of their incredibly heightened anxiety when having to face a world they do not understand, some people with Autism have severe chronic sensory issues either hyper or hypo sensitive ,some people with Autism suffer from pain every day of their lives but are unable to verbalise this so that they can access appropriate medical treatment or painkillers, some people with Autism need to have a full time Carer with them for duration of their lives as they have no sense of danger and cannot cross a road safely on their own, or cook a meal, or drive a car or run a bath or indeed wipe their own bottoms, are these not 'disabilities'? I ask you then.... what are they? I could go on - the list is endless. Autism is a Spectrum Disorder- no two people are the same, we are all individuals. My son has Severe Low Functioning Autism accompanied by a severe Intellectual 'disability' , this is just another word my friend ....the important thing is to recognise these shortfalls and do our best to help. My son has a twin sister who is not on the Spectrum, she is a straight A student, she is tall and beautiful, popular, kind and funny, a great communicator, she is a writer and a poet and a talented athlete, my son has none of these attributes except the beauty, he is the most beautiful child l have ever seen, strangers stare at him in the street , girls throw sideways glances ....to no avail of course. I am proud of both of my children but my son is the one that we all....including his sister- love with a tender unconditional love... he is in short - the light of our lives. I thought finding apps for autism would be easy but it turns out its a little difficult finding good ones. That was until I purchased this app. You can narrow the search down to price, rating, and device. Which is great because my school only lets us download free apps.
