## What is Auto Tally App?

Auto Tally is a private, on-device garage ledger for one vehicle. Keep service history, odometer readings, fuel use, costs, reminders, and ownership planning together without creating an account.

SERVICE AND MILEAGE
- Log maintenance with dates, odometer readings, intervals, costs, categories, status, and notes.
- Search, filter, sort, edit, complete, or delete every service record.
- See live miles-until-due estimates from the odometer and interval you enter.
- Use common service templates while keeping every interval editable.

ODOMETER CONSISTENCY
- Compare the current odometer with saved service and fuel readings.
- Flag a current reading that trails the log, dated fuel entries that move backward, and repeated full-fill readings.
- Review the exact finding before correcting a record.

FUEL AND OWNERSHIP COSTS
- Record full or partial fill-ups with gallons, odometer, total cost, and notes.
- See per-tank and average MPG, fuel spend, price per gallon, service spend, monthly cost charts, and cost per mile.
- Build an adjustable annual ownership forecast with maintenance, fuel, insurance, fees, depreciation, and contingency assumptions.

SHOP-READY OUTPUT
- Generate a multi-page PDF service dossier with vehicle details, odometer findings, service history, fuel history, and entered costs.
- Prepare a focused shop handoff with your concern and selected service checks.
- Export plain text, service CSV, fuel CSV, or a complete JSON backup you can restore later.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Auto Tally has no account, ads, tracking, analytics SDK, or developer backend. Garage data stays on your device unless you explicitly share an export or backup. Reminders are local notifications. An optional example garage is loaded only after you choose it and is always labeled.

Auto Tally is a recordkeeping and planning utility. Its checks compare only the readings you enter and cannot verify a vehicle's actual mileage. Service intervals and forecasts are estimates; follow the owner's manual and a qualified service professional for maintenance and safety decisions.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-08-21

Auto Tally 1.5 is a full garage workflow upgrade.

- New odometer consistency audit flags conflicting readings without claiming to verify actual mileage.
- New multi-page PDF service dossier and focused shop handoff.
- New annual ownership forecast with adjustable assumptions and scenario range.
- Redesigned five-tab interface for Garage, Services, Costs, Plan, and Settings.
- Fresh installs now start empty; the optional example garage is clearly labeled and loaded only by user choice.
- Stronger JSON backup and restore, including fuel-only, vehicle-only, and odometer-only archives.
- New automotive icon, clearer privacy controls, and improved iPhone and iPad layouts.
- Reliability coverage expanded across service, fuel, costs, reminders, exports, PDF generation, persistence, and odometer edge cases.

### 1.4 — 2026-07-02

AutoTally 1.4 adds a fuel log with real-world MPG: record each fill-up with the odometer, gallons, and what you paid, and the app calculates your MPG per full tank, average and last-fill MPG, fuel spend, and average price per gallon, with a trend chart on the History tab. Partial fill-ups are handled correctly by rolling into the next full tank. You can also save your vehicle's details (year, make, model, plate, VIN) on-device, and they are stamped onto the service-history export so the packet is ready for a shop visit or a sale. Backups now include the fuel log and vehicle details, a fuel CSV export was added, and dark mode is easier to read throughout.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-23

See exactly what your car maintenance is costing you. Add a cost to any service and the new History tab totals your spend, shows it month by month in a chart, breaks it down by category, and even works out your cost per mile. Older records that had a price typed into the value field are picked up automatically.

Never miss a service again. Switch on a reminder for any record and AutoTally schedules a local notification the day before it's due — entirely on your device, no account needed.

Back up everything in one tap. Save all your records and your odometer to a single file you can keep in Files, AirDrop to a new phone, or restore later. The CSV and text exports now include cost and reminder details too.

Still 100% offline and private — no account, no ads, no tracking. Your existing records carry over untouched, and spend totals are for your own recordkeeping only.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-19

What's New in AutoTally 1.2

AutoTally now reminds you by the mile - not just the calendar.

Current odometer + miles until due
Set your current odometer once on the Today tab, and every service that has a mileage interval counts down from it: "Oil change due in 3,200 mi," "Cabin air filter due in 800 mi," "Brake fluid overdue by 200 mi." Update the odometer in one tap as you drive and every countdown refreshes. Services are sorted most-urgent first, with overdue, due-soon, and upcoming states.

Built-in service-interval reference (offline, cited)
AutoTally now ships a bundled guide of typical published service intervals - oil ~5,000 mi, tire rotation ~6,000 mi, engine and cabin air filters ~15,000 mi, brake fluid ~30,000 mi, spark plugs ~60,000 mi, and more. Browse the full table in the Toolkit, or tap "Use typical interval" when adding a record and AutoTally fills in a sensible value for you. The figures are a conservative consensus of widely published US maintenance guidance (CARFAX, Firestone, and Farm Bureau).

Mileage in your records and exports
- Add or edit a record with the odometer reading at the service plus a repeat interval.
- The Library has a new mileage-only filter, and each tracked record shows its countdown inline.
- The plain-text export now includes your current odometer and a full mileage countdown.
- The CSV export gained Odometer, Interval, Next Due, and Mileage Status columns - ideal when selling a car or handing records to a mechanic.

Fixes
- The in-app Info screen now reads its version and build from the app itself, fixing a stale label that previously showed 1.0.
- Records that stored mileage as free text (e.g. "72,400 mi") are read automatically once you add an interval, so older logs light up the new countdowns with no re-entry.

Still 100% offline - no account, no ads, no tracking, no third-party services. Your existing records carry over untouched.

---

Mileage notes: The miles-until-due estimates use typical published service intervals as a convenience and are not specific to your vehicle - always follow your owner's manual. AutoTally is a recordkeeping utility and does not provide mechanical, safety, warranty, or legal advice.
