### 5/5 — Nice work, very handy.

*2013-01-20, version 3.0*

Really good useful app. Helps me out a lot at work. Thanks.

### 4/5 — Very handy app but!

*2013-01-19, version 3.0*

I've been in the av/installation industry for years now and this app is probably the closest thing you can find out there that really works. All audio diagrams are easy to understand if you are in a jam trying to work out balanced to unbalanced audio this is very clear and handy. Anyway I install 100s of projectors a year and wanted to put this app to the test with throw distance and heights , but found out after putting in the measurements of my screen that it didn't calculate the distance or heights in the yellow chart as it should. This is disappointing because that was my prime reason for this app, hope this gets Fixed soon as I'm looking forward to ready testing this out.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2012-12-14, version 2.3*

I've been looking for a real AV app for quite some time. Just got it!

### 5/5 — The Gerber tool 2.0

*2012-06-17, version 2.2*

Simply a must for the AV Pro. Love it !

Just missing an iPad version.

### 4/5 — Very useful

*2012-05-15*

To get 5 Stars please include USB, Display Port and Thunderbolt. Nevertheless, a very useful App. for AV Guys.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2012-04-16, version 2.0*

A step by step guide that is so simple to follow looking forward to more apps like this this one.

### 5/5 — AV Buddy 2.0

*2012-03-30, version 2.0*

Just what I was looking for at that particular time and proved to be a great help; presentation very good which was a bonus and is often overlooked in this genre of app. Looking forward to version 2.1...

### 4/5 — Not bad

*2012-03-19, version 2.0*

Plenty of good info in here. The kind of stuff you should remember but never do. I'd like to see some more audio calculations added. PAG/NAG and the log calculators would be a good start. Nice job!

### 5/5 — By far the most robust a/v app

*2011-11-29, version 1.0*

At first I was hesitant to spend the money, but after emailing the designer and getting some more info I bought it. Very handy tool. Would recommend to any one in the trade.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Too expensive, not that helpful, some info incorrect

*2012-04-01, version 2.0*

$4 is pretty absurd for how little this app does honestly.
Basic description of video connectors, and screen resolutions which can be googled faster than this app. Several descriptions are either incomplete, or misleading.
"Feature" comparisons of display technology, which summarizes cliches instead of stating any facts of each.

### 1/5 — Mostly info you can google

*2012-03-28, version 2.0*

The projectors are mostly boardroom type. No Christie or other high end staging type projector/lens combos.

Glancing through some of the other info I found a few typos.

For a $4 app it should be better. Would delete it and try to get my money back.

### 1/5 — waste of money

*2011-12-29, version 1.0*

This app is a complete waste of money there is very little useful info. In the control section it doesn't even mention rs232, the most common standard used for control. What a joke. Wish I could get my money back.

### 2/5 — Outdated app, video output doesn’t work

*2019-10-23, version 8*

I was recommended this app by a fellow professional, who had heard about it not used it.
I spent my $.99, and found that the test display function does not detect even a basic display.
There is some commonly available information included, is it worth $.99?
I wouldn’t do it again.
It would be nice to see that they would come up with a more recent update instead of a computer game, found on their website.
They have a pro version, for iPad.
I am not going to spend $1.99 to see that it doesn’t work as well.

**Developer response:** Hello Gentle Giant II.

Sorry to read that you are having trouble with AVBuddy. I'm actually in the middle of a BIG update that will include additional connectors, calculators, AV training, tools and bug fixes.

I have just tested AV Buddy on my iPhone 11 and connected it to a 55" Samsung consumer-grade TV via an Apple A1348 Lightning AV adapter and a Kramer HDMI cable, it connected perfectly and all test patterns are displayed. I'll try to replicate your problem and hope to find a fix.

Commonly found information is included and can be found on the internet, but AV Buddy is a way of collating that information to make it easier to find. Plus AV Buddy has a lot more, for example, AV Tools and AV Calculators.

Thanks again for downloading, I'll be updating ASAP.

### 2/5 — Pour application

*2018-05-30, version 8*

Less then the half of the connectors in the market

### 2/5 — Let me install on iOS 5.0.1

*2012-05-03, version 2.1*

Not happy this update requires iOS 5.1, I'm still on 5.0.1 with no plans on upgrading anytime soon.

### 2/5 — Av Buddy - Needs a pro Version

*2012-03-14, version 2.0*

Unfortunately you don't get a list of the projectors before you buy - This does not cover any of the professional grade projectors from Barco Christie or DP
Nice for the basic AV guy.
Font too small and not scalable - I look forward to an update
Nice work though

### 3/5 — Not to bad but a bit limited

*2012-08-01, version 2.2*

Am an AV Tech/installer who is sometimes sent to site with limited or incorrect info so I thought I'd try this app.

On the whole it's ok but especially now with the frequent use of ultra short throw projectors (many of which are found in the app) the vertical height from the top of the image to a reference point on the projector is crucial. This is to avoid keystone which greatly degrades image quality and focus on such models due to the way the mirrors etc work. Given many ultra short throws are wall bracket mounted with very limited or no height adjust its important to know this info.

Cheers if this could be included.

### 3/5 — Engineer

*2012-05-31, version 2.1.1*

Great resource tool for " In the field". Look forward to more updates!

### 4/5 — Cool app still a little way to go

*2021-04-02, version 9*

Crashing in the current version on the drawing, I’m still trying to work it out. Could be laid out better, buttons labelled, or maybe it’s just because it’s faulty at the moment and that’s why it’s not working properly.

Measurements for outlets should be to the centre of outlets not the edge on the drawing tool.

Diagrams are awesome but things like the Rj connector could be better, yes knowing the PIN number is great but it’s better to show a coloured diagram, if you search rj45 connector diagram on Google you’ll see what I mean.

When doing sound tests, the button you push for the test doesn’t highlight, so if you push it you have to remember which one to press stop on because it’s not highlighted.

A lot of helpful stuff in here pretty awesome I’m impressed, but still a bit of polishing to go.

### 5/5 — Very Useful

*2025-12-05, version 10*

I was looking for an app just like this. Perfect! 👍

### 5/5 — Theatre Technician

*2025-05-24, version 9.1*

Fantastic app, must have for any theatre or live events technician!

### 5/5 — AV Buddy

*2024-04-11, version 9.1*

Been using this app for many years! Excellent app highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fantastic update

*2020-07-30, version 9*

I love the new AR mode. I can see myself using this on every job I do now: walk into a room with the client and show them what it looks like. Excellent.
The updated tools and cable references look great too.

Only minor issue is the throw distance calculation: in my case I normally know the screen width plus the distance to the projector and need to determine the correct lens to get me there.

### 5/5 — Great training tool

*2019-03-16, version 8*

I just started working as a tech. This is a great addition to my tool bag. So far, it contains all the connectors I’ve used in the field. I was referred to this app from a veteran tech. I recommend it too!

### 5/5 — Must have

*2017-12-14, version 8*

All techs should have this. Great app!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2013-07-17, version 3.0*

Lots of great info and handy functions. I tell every apprentice/rookie tech to get this app.

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2013-07-06, version 3.0*

Easy to use, but packed full of useful information. A must have for AV professionals!

### 5/5 — Good app

*2013-03-15, version 3.0*

Pretty good for non-technical people.

### 5/5 — Updated nice version

*2013-01-20, version 3.0*

Since its been updated this app is now faster and does not crash at all. Ive been using it at work and used the projector calc too. The calc shows you the min, max and middle throw distances of the projector with a certain lens if available. The projector calc does not show you height of the projector like the previous comment. Maybe using it wrong ? Anyhow keep up the good work. Thank you
