### 2/5 — Can’t find my receiver

*2026-08-08, version 5.60*

Please fix. It cannot detect my receiver but airplay still work over network.

### 4/5 — Better than Multicast

*2026-03-02, version 5.60*

I loved this app however it is not supported by Yamaha’s newest flagship RX-A8A. I had an older flagship from 2008 the RX-Z7 but sadly it died. This app if supported by the receiver is simple and straightforward to use. I wish they would allow it to be used with Yamaha’s newest models.

### 2/5 — RX-a780

*2026-01-16, version 5.60*

Love the AV receiver, however this app is terribly non cooperative too often and not supported and are plenty of updates and bug fixes that should be supporting our investment.

### 3/5 — Zone B Control Crashes App

*2025-08-16, version 5.60*

Worked great, but suddenly stopped working for zone B. App crashes when zone B selected.

### 2/5 — UPDATE THE APP!!!

*2025-08-05, version 5.60*

Please update the app! Love it except for one small, yet really annoying thing. When streaming music from my phone you cannot listen to Apple Music songs that have been added and downloaded for offline play.. pardon my choice of phrases but what the…?!

### 4/5 — Works Great Once Mastered

*2024-11-10, version 5.60*

The Yamaha AV Controller works great once mastered. However, the learning curve is longer than most other apps. That said, I still prefer it over the remote control. It is important to note that the full functionality is not readily apparent so plan on exploring the application using all your phone’s control tricks. I am still finding features years later. Overall, good job Yamaha.

### 3/5 — Glad it exists, needs some UX design improvement

*2024-11-05, version 5.60*

It’s great to be able to control my stereo remotely, but the organization of controls on this all doesn’t make a lot of sense, particularly with regard to adjusting volume, which you might have to do fairly often. There’s a lot of switching of screens necessary even though there’s plenty of space on a single iPhone screen (and certainly an iPad) to display (and control) volume for each individual zone and even a master control too. There’s no need to have a special “knob” interaction when we are all familiar with the classic iOS slider for volume that both displays and allows you to interact; all the knob does is force more clicks into the user flow. Really, if there were a simple page that had all volumes controllable simultaneously without paging around the app, I’d have rated this app much higher. Hopefully we’ll see that in a future version!

### 2/5 — Unreliable

*2024-06-09, version 5.60*

When it works its great. For some reason every now and then it jumps into demo mode. Takes awhile to figure out why. My system is wired so its not a wifi issue and entering the ip manually offers no help. No reason for it to bounce into demo.

### 2/5 — Nice when it works

*2024-05-26, version 5.60*

For some reason my Aventage Receiver is only recognized part of the time. Apple and Yamaha have no fix for this. Reboot everything, update software change internet…nothing works.

You pay over $2k for receiver and this is the best Yamaha engineers come with? Spotty Air Play?

Now instead of listening to my Bose outdoor speakers in my courtyard I’m relegated to head phones. No more Yamaha products for me!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-04-26, version 5.60*

The app no longer connects to my RX-A770 at all. Typical troubleshooting techniques do nothing.

### 1/5 — About 20% accessible for blind users absolutely a miserable application

*2024-04-09, version 5.60*

Yamaha has simply forgotten about the user experience when it comes to its applications in regard to its network enabled receivers and processors my CX-A5000 SSP audio processor. not only is the IP address, web, interface, miserable, entirely unintuitive, and poorly designed, but the application for iOS is simply a disaster and almost entirely inaccessible to a blind user who must use a sided friend or family member to navigate the onscreen menus because the Internet or network enabled device, which should be accessible to blind people, is entirely in accessible! it is clear to me, that Yamaha designers, at least of this application and the web interface, simply could not care less about the user experience of someone who might have poor eyesight, or is totally blind, to say nothing of the user experience of anyone who is cited for that matter. come on Yamaha, one of the greatest corporations in the world, especially with audio and sound equipment, and I have to put up with this kind of nonsense! I am presently due to upgrade my main audio system, and at this juncture, it is highly unlikely. I will be purchasing another Yamaha product, unless Yamaha can somehow improve it with interface and application for configuring it home, audio equipment, such as it’s receivers or integrated amplifiers.

### 1/5 — Thank you C Mod

*2024-04-04, version 5.60*

C MOD thank you

### 3/5 — Demo Only Showing Fix

*2024-03-31, version 5.60*

App all of a sudden started showing demo mode only. Tried manually adding receiver via IP and nothing still. Deleted the app, downloaded again, works great now. Hope this helps.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — UPSIDE DOWN!!!

*2026-02-26, version 5.60*

This stupid guide will only open upside down in landscape mode on my M4 iPad Pro (iPadOS 26.3). I have never seen anything like this before. When I open the guide in normal landscape mode (volume buttons on top), it immediately inverts the screen and Wii not change to any other orientation. Come on Yamaha! This is such a juvenile mistake. FIX IT!

### 1/5 — Rx-v677 no longer supported

*2025-12-14, version 5.60*

I used this app in the past and it was good for controlling my receiver. No longer. It won’t recognize my device and the support list does not include my the RX-V677. Yamaha just moved down on my list of future purchases if this is the way they treat customers.

### 1/5 — Volume control

*2025-10-08, version 5.60*

This app used to work so you could just open it up and turn your receiver volume up and down, now it only gives you a choice for music cast. 10 years ago it worked great, now it doesn’t work worth a crapz. Who authorized this app change.

### 1/5 — WILL NOT CONNECT

*2025-07-30, version 5.60*

Worked great until July 30, 2025. Application update broke link with A/V receiver. Now it will not reconnect. Thanks Yamaha.

### 1/5 — Epic Failure

*2025-07-24, version 5.60*

It’s unfathomable that Yamaha would produce such substandard software as this “AV Controller” can’t even find its own hardware on the same network! The only solution to listening to music my phone is to hard wire it directly to the receiver. Obviously Yamaha doesn’t care since this train wreck of an app hasn’t even been updated in over three years! …I’m certainly going to be keeping this in mind when / if ever purchasing other Yamaha products.

### 1/5 — Dropped support

*2025-05-31, version 5.60*

The App used to work and it no longer does. I have a “current” receiver as it’s still being sold with RX-V4A and the app doesn’t work. Now only the music cast app works which doesn’t help as I don’t have music cast speakers. Why bother with an app if it won’t support your products?

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2024-10-15, version 5.60*

Will not connect to my receiver.

### 1/5 — All Yamaha Apps No Good

*2024-08-15, version 5.60*

I have an expensive Yamaha receiver; an RX – A2A. All Yamaha apps are not intuitive, and are focused on Alexa and other technology that I don't care about. I just want to adjust all of my speakers and listen to good music from Central source using the app. The app is horrible for this. You cannot even adjust individual speaker volumes from the app. I recommend looking for a receiver that has a user-friendly and simple app. Not one designed by some geek who doesn't know what the average user wants.

### 1/5 — Great…when it works.

*2024-06-28, version 5.60*

Doesn’t work all of the time. Would think by now that it would be much better. Nope…still very frustrated!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-05-26, version 5.60*

Stay away. Does not connect to your Yamaha AV receiver….

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This always just works.

*2026-05-30, version 5.60*

Took it for granted until I didn’t have it. Thanks for continuing to support this app Yamaha!

### 5/5 — Simplicity

*2026-02-13, version 5.60*

Does the job of the physical remote, only better. Simple UI.

### 5/5 — Phenomenal

*2026-01-27, version 5.60*

Love the internet radio and usb audio file playback! This app has exceeded all of my expectations! Thank you Yamaha! Your stereo receivers are just as awesome as your street bikes! Mahalo!

### 5/5 — still great

*2025-11-28, version 5.60*

it’s a shame that Yamaha doesn’t keep this app up-to-date. It still supports my RXV775 AVR and adapts wonderfully to iPhone and iPad screen resolutions. I use this app every day.

### 5/5 — 10 years and still working

*2024-12-14, version 5.60*

Not often in the audio world a company continues with software updates so your receiver works with the latest technology. Always amazed my $800 10 year old Yamaha receiver works as well today with incredible range of setup and ease of use as it did when it was first used. This app to control zones and listening features has always worked with ease - even after all these years.

### 5/5 — IOS18 works with app

*2024-09-19, version 5.60*

IOS18 works with app

### 5/5 — very very nice!

*2024-04-20, version 5.60*

I use this with my Yamaha Aventage RX A 710 in my media room (zone 2 feeds my MBR ceiling speakers). Also my pool area RX V483 and can control both the units… controls all functions… both zones on the 710. plus all the cool DSP profiles… I love it! I wish had an RX V4A so I would have Alexa built-in. Currently I use an echo dot to inject line audio into AV2 for playing my Amazon music. Love this app and my fantastic Yamaha receivers!

### 5/5 — Was a great app

*2023-09-27, version 5.60*

Many complaining that the app brings up music cast. Newer Yamaha receivers are music cast enabled and not compatible with Yamaha AV controller. This app is ultimately being deprecated, and only music cast will work. This app has much more control over the receivers. MusicCast is fine for their wireless speakers, but inadequate for a full on AV receiver. If you know this app, it does much more than MusicCast. MusicCast is for the sonos type user. Only cares about a cool looking minimalist product with no ability to control the actual av experience. Major misstep on the part of Yamaha, but clearly they only looked at the ratings on the App Store which with all for respect, is not a true sampling of their demographic. Been buying and installing Yamaha for 20 years. Time to find a new ecosystem. Such a shame.

### 5/5 — 5 star

*2023-04-27, version 5.60*

I have multiple Yamaha receivers at multiple locations I am so happy with the abilities to run bars, restaurants, homes in multiple zones I am continuously blown away by this app and Yamaha I have been purchasing these products for 15 plus years I would never by anything but.

### 5/5 — Helped me setup my receiver

*2023-01-14, version 5.60*

I used this to setup my Yamaha RX-V473 receiver and it worked great. I connected the receiver to Ethernet and it showed up on the app. I was able to use this remote app get to the setup menu to turn on HDMI ARC and HDMI control. The remote buttons also have haptic feedback which was nice. I recommend this app if you lost your physical remote.
