In this case the paywalled features are just stuff that’s essential for an app like this (scrubbing video… really? You spend a lot of time working on that feature?) Luckily for the public there’s better apps that don’t paywall features, instead asking that you support the developer’s work through donations. BEWARE! ### 2/5 — 30 Seconds!? REALLY? *2025-09-06, version 1.0.8* Well so far I have created a user name. Maybe don’t ask me what I think of your app 30 seconds after download and before I even have a chance to use it or even learn how it works. 👎 ### 2/5 — Randomly logs me out *2025-01-09, version 1.0.8* Randomly logs me out, and does not permit my password manager to paste my login info in. ### 3/5 — Account not saved *2024-09-21, version 1.0.8* I upgraded to the iPhone 16 and had to sign in to my Lemmy account on Avelon, which is normal after changing phones. However, after doing so, once the application has been closed (not just in the background), the account I signed in with was removed from Avelon. Otherwise the application works quite well, but this is now a showstopper for me. ### 4/5 — Solid, but stagnant *2024-12-20, version 1.0.8* The app is solid and covers all the basic features you want, but it appears as though the dev has moved on since the app hasn’t been updated in over a year and the Lemmy community for the app has seen no posts or comments from the dev about why. Key features that are missing are the ability to crosspost, and links to other Lemmy posts open up Safari instead of jumping there in the app. ### 4/5 — Great replacement for Apollo that needs some polish *2023-10-17, version 1.0.6* Overall this app scratches almost all the itches Apollo left when Reddit shut it down. It looks great, performs well, and is generally easy to use. The biggest issue is I can’t share from it since it always grabs a link to the root of the instance a post is from, not a link to the post. It also needs a little more refinement on the gestures (they work, but don’t feel quite as polished as what Apollo had accomplished). If the sharing were fixed though an easy 5 stars. ### 5/5 — Closest thing I have found to Apollo *2023-11-21, version 1.0.7* RIP Apollo Hello Avelon! ## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Incredible Lemmy Client *2023-10-23, version 1.0.7* I've been using Avelon since the very first day it launched on TestFlight and it is by far the best way to explore the Fediverse that I have found so far. Pros: It has a layout and features reminiscent of Apollo, with enough customization to satisfy my oddly specific requirements. Loading times are fast and the search function is the best I've seen. Blocking communities and subscribing is available directly from the home page as well. Gestures are well implemented and multiple accounts are able to be used. Also, NO ADS! (Minor) Cons: Some features (extra customizing, content filters) are hidden behind a slightly-pricey paid Pro version. This is entirely optional, though, and the experience is great without it. The developer is also incredibly responsive to feedback, which is always a good sign. Can't wait to see this app grow even more, would 100% recommend! ### 5/5 — Best app for Lemmy! *2023-10-06, version 1.0.5* The best Lemmy app on iOS hands down! Spectacularly, I’ve found a replacement in Avalon for Lemmy.
