This app is more of the same. Looks nice, but just as buggy. Just downloaded and can’t even see my feed. ### 1/5 — Dev’s original Aviary app lasted less than 2yrs at $4.99. How long will this one last? *2022-08-11, version 1.0.10* Actions speak louder than words. This developer had the original Aviary in the store for only 1-2 years before erasing all traces of it, release a separate new version of Aviary now called Aviary 2, increase the base cost by leaps and bounds, and justify it all by saying it was recreated from the ground up so it’s essentially a whole new app. After the low star reviews came in the Dev asked for better reviews to counter the lower reviews rather than listening all feedback and only taking into account feedback he favors. Here’s a shortlist of key points... - The Dev’s very own Aviary Twitter account says its first version (now gone) launched 9/16/20 in the App Store. That’s just shy of two years. - From what I can find the price for the full original app, no subscription, was $4.99 with the highest optional in-app “Immense Tip” being $29.99. If you use $4.99 as the starting price the new $49.99 is nearly a ten fold increase for the full app. If you use the $29.99 it’s about a 67% increase for the full app. Again, after just under 2 years. This is as much about integrity as it is recurring costs for consumers. Will this developer create a new app of the same app every 1-2 years and expect people to pay $50 anew every time? Yes, there's a cheaper subscription option, but I'm not comparing that. I understand the Dev feels justified because of all their work and it very well may be a whole new app to justify a bit of a price increase, but from a consumer's stand point the whole timeline of events and the increased costs involved comes across as extremely untrustworthy. Not to mention the subscription test run which leaves a bad taste in many mouths. I can’t speak for others, but I’ve been victim to patterns like this before after giving different Dev’s benefit of the doubt and I personally deeply regret my naivety. I’m personally hesitant to do that again. ### 1/5 — Can barely login *2022-08-11, version 1.0.10* Bottom sheet asking to subscribe to do basic FREE functions is incredibly I ### 2/5 — Forces to try to subscribe at at startup *2022-08-07, version 1.0.8* The app is marked as free, but it forces for a subscription at startup, and you can't bypass the subscription screen without closing the app. This means you can't try out the basic features without doing a free subscription that could easily go on for a longer time if you forget to unsubscribe. I’m personally hesitant to do that again. ### 1/5 — A scam developer *2022-08-04, version 1.0.5* He stole our money from the first aviary I used it for 8 months only and he removed it from the store, he refused to give us refund ### 2/5 — Trial period way too short *2022-08-01, version 1.0.3* The app seems well designed and has a lot of features. I would be interested in giving it a try as my main Twitter client, but the 3 days of trial that is offered is way too short for me to know if it would fit my needs or not. So unfortuantely I'm not going to take the risk and I'll just stick with what I know for now. ### 3/5 — Still a little rough, and I object to forced sub also *2022-07-30, version 1.0.3* The app looks promising, but it's got some rough edges; definitely seeing some UI glitches and tweets not quite rendered correctly (quote tweet on the tweet in Twitter web UI not being displayed in the Aviary client, etc. Nothing deal breaking, but like some other reviewers, I too objected to being forced to sign up for an annual subscription just to start the free trial. I may come back when the app has evolved a little, assuming the splash screen is changed… perhaps to allow opt in to a monthly sub instead of a yearly, or to not force subscription until trial period ends. He promised not to leave us (the paying customers) out to dry on Aviary 2 after the Aviary 1 debacle and…he left us out to dry again. Do not, do not, do not give him your money, he is a scam artist. I cannot believe I trusted him. Please stop supporting this developer and letting him take your money. ### 1/5 — I hope Apple does something about this scammer *2022-12-21, version 1.3.6* This guy is unbelievable All his apps I bought for iOS and macOS stoped working after less than two years! & now this new App as well as his new Mac app don’t work anymore as well after less than two months of their release! I don’t know if he sold the other apps or just changed the name, because the new name is under Poetic Byte. Kinda like just giving up. Can’t believe Apple features this disgusting thief. Just look at his Product Hunt for promoting Aviary 2. You will see what I mean here. I have used his apps before and paid for them and then this son of thief just abandons them later. This guy’s name also feels like scammer, “Shihab Mehboob”. Somebody should write an article about this guy right now because users need to be aware of what kind of devs we should supporting and promoting. ### 1/5 — Cannot reply to tweets. *2022-08-31, version 1.1.1* The app has a nice interface. Unfortunately, my keyboard does not appear when I reply to tweets. I have reached out to the developers as shown on the app but no response. ### 1/5 — The ole’ bait-and-switch *2022-08-27, version 1.1.1* As others have pointed out, the original Aviary app was a one-time ~$5 purchase and was supported for less than 2 years before being ditched for Aviary 2. This makes me weary of supporting any developers that switch to a subscription model and offer no sort of accommodations to those who previously purchased the app. Upon trying Aviary 2, there were actually some features missing compared with the first Aviary app and others that felt gimmicky and not particularly useful (e.g. AR features). The other qualm I have with switches to subscriptions is the price increase. This app is now ~$15 per year, which is 3x more than the original one-time purchase. I understand needing to switch to subscription, but then why not make ir a cheaper price such as $5/year? This app just doesn’t inspire confidence and its longevity is questionable. ### 1/5 — No longer trusting the dev. *2022-08-25, version 1.1.1* Have never given 1 star before, but purchased his Aviary (1) app last year. After purchasing it, he was very responsive to questions/issues I had. Now the app is gone from the app store, so reached out to him twice about options for Aviary (1) owners. NO RESPONSE. I will no longer buy any apps of his as you cannot trust that he won't abandom them. Very disappointing on many levels. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — The best Twitter client *2022-10-19, version 1.3* Aviary is the best Twitter client out there. The developer is updating the app constantly and making it better each time and with each update adding amazing new features. It’s just amazing!! ### 5/5 — Rate limited makes it useless *2022-09-23, version 1.2.5* Every day I open this app hoping to use it. Instead I get the red bubble telling me it is rate limited, then the pop-up that makes an excuse for it. Definately some nice filters and user affordances. ### 5/5 — Climbing higher *2022-08-08, version 1.0.8* Feels like a refreshing glass of ice water living in the official Twitter app. Finally. 🫶 ### 5/5 — New favorite twitter client *2022-07-27, version 1.0.1* I've been using Tweetbot for a long time, mainly because it has the best design out of any other twitter client I've used. But this is my new favorite app because I love how customizable it is. One thing about Tweetbot that always bothered me was that you couldn't tap on a tweet to view its details, you had to swipe on it. On Aviary, I can just tap and it just works. This app does have some bugs. I've noticed often that for most settings to correctly apply, you have to close the app in the app switcher and reopen it. It's a minor thing that I'm sure will get fixed with future updates. I slightly dislike the subscription model. There's no way to try the app without starting the 3 day trial, I wish it had a stripped down version you could use for free like how Tweetbot does. And the price to keep the app for life is $50 which I think is too expensive. At the very least, I think the trial could be at least a week long. ### 4/5 — Good but very buggy *2022-08-12, version 1.0.10* Looks great, does not perform as so. As of now can’t even follow new users, the option has suddenly disappeared, trial is almost up was going to go for a year subscription but will hold off till the bugs are sorted. Update: Developer has fixed almost all bugs and has added many new features. Still Local News shows middle eastern news when I live in Chicago so yeah… ### 4/5 — Great potential *2022-08-05, version 1.0.6* I think there's a lot of good here. The level of customization is amazing. So many little quality of life improvements you don't see on other 3rd-party apps. And the UI is simply gorgeous. That said, the app does have a lot of bugs. It feels beta, like others have said. This would be tolerable on a free app, but this is a subscription-based app. With only a 3-day trial. I would suggest extending the trail while the bugs are fixed. And focus on the current bugs. For reference, I running this on the latest software with the latest iPhone. ### 3/5 — What did I pay for? *2022-10-25, version 1.3.2* So I’ve been trying this out for a few weeks. It had banner advertisement that said the paid version had more App icons. It didn’t. It said it had more widgets. It didn’t. It said it had more customization, and options in general….it didn’t. I want to love this app, but it just doesn’t seem finished. If it changes after the big update I will change this rating accordingly, as it really is so close to being awesome ### 3/5 — An undercooked app *2022-09-24, version 1.2.5* This app has tremendous potential, it has a very nice user interface, but it is written with bugs and just doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t feel like it’s a finished product. It’s kind of like putting a frozen burrito in the microwave and not cooking it for the right amount of time. All you end up with is a not so tasty burrito that’s still cold in the middle. I think this author needs to take the time to cross every T, and dot every i, and make sure every nook and cranny of their app is ready for prime time.
