The Pilot's Choice! A complete, full-featured aviation altimeter running inside your Apple Watch Series 3 or higher! A real barometric Altimeter, not GPS-based. Authenticl Altimeter dial with digital readout! This altimeter allows you to set the field altimeter setting (QNH). The Altitude can be displayed in Feet, Meters, or Flight Level. You can also display the raw barometric pressure. The Kollsman window allows setting the local pressure in either inches of mercury or hectoPascals (millibars). Completely International! Once you load the App from your phone and set your preferences with the companion iPhone App, the watch Altimeter is completely independent of the phone. Great app and support. Better support than apps costing 10x as much **Developer response:** Sorry, the altimeter face graphic is about as big as the 40 mm face will allow. The next maintenance release will probably add a one or two points vertically at the expense of the buttons, but this will make the altimeter slightly oblong. Please note that the swipe gestures are already taken. Swipe Right shows the Density Altitude settings, Swipe Left shows the measurement Unit settings. ### 1/5 — Series 7 Watch not compatible *2021-11-16* After setting watch and iPhone to allow fitness, the app still does not work. The Set Baro button does not appear on watch, and you cannot set alert altitude from watch. It might be ok for 29.92 only. **Developer response:** Apologies! You are correct, the new screen geometry for Series7 pushed the control buttons off the screen. Nobody in the beta test group back in September had a Series7! Version 2.08 fixes this issue and has been uploaded to Apple. It should be available to download in a day or two. Can’t contact company for help because their webpage doesn’t take my question. **Developer response:** We are sorry that you are having difficulties. If you are having trouble with the web based Email, you can describe your problem in a message to doc@aviametrix.com To set the Altitude Alert feature, tap the bottom right button labeled “AltAlert” on the main screen of the watch app. Set the Altitude and the range, then set the On switch and the buzz if you wish. Return to the main screen and the altitude alert is on. ### 5/5 — Works well...when on the face *2020-09-15* I was impressed by the features and how easy it was to set up a target altitude. The issue that I had this after several minutes, the app will drop off the watch face which would then revert to its standard face. I was not able to figure out a way to set a time out to keep the app open. Unless this is user error (which is certainly a possibility), it’s not nearly as useful as it could be. Using on a series 5 watch. UPDATE Followed the directions to update the “Wake Screen” settings and NOW this is a really useful app. Glad to be some to give it 5 stars. If this change in watch settings helps you, would you consider revising your rating :) "By default, the Apple Watch acts as first and foremost as a watch, displaying the time when a user raises their wrist. But the settings on the Apple Watch also allow users to have the device operate more like a smartphone, resuming the last activity. As anyone who has tried exercising with a third-party Apple Watch app knows, after a short period of time, the device will return to displaying the default clock face when they raise their wrist. Luckily, there's a simple fix for those who would rather have third-party apps stay in the foreground. On the Apple Watch, users can open the Settings app, then select General, and then Activate on Wrist Raise. Scroll down to Resume To and switch the checked item to Last Used App." ### 5/5 — Station Barometer *2020-03-25* Works great. **Developer response:** The Reset button sets the QNH to 29.92! To change the local QNH, use the Watch Crown. Rotate to the desired value, then hit the Set button on the face. Please reconsider your 1 star rating, sorry if the usage directions were unclear. ### 3/5 — AW5 Complication inoperative *2019-10-03* Neat app, functions ok but the complication can’t be selected to display in the “My Faces” page of the Apple Watch App. It won’t even show “BaroAlt” on this page. However BaroAlt is shown as a complication on the Complication page. I have a brand new iPhone 11 and brand new Apple Watch 5, so it might take some updating the app. Authors please address, thanks! **Developer response:** New! Thanks for your patience! ### 5/5 — Works great! *2019-03-27* Had an issue at first with a bug, but developer quickly addressed my issue, applied an update to fix the bug, and the app works just as it’s supposed to. Best baro altimeter app I’ve seen so far. Maybe a watch complication would be a nice addition to the app, but it’s great as it is! Thank you! I changed my review! **Developer response:** Profound Apologies! For reasons unfathomable, on your watch the App thinks it is running on the Apple Developer's Simulator. This should obviously not happen. A new version will get uploaded today with the debugging branch removed. Very sorry for the inconvenience! The app is no joke, it is sensitive to pressure changes equivalent to 2-3 feet of altitude near sea level and it has been flight tested up to about 10,000 MSL. ### 4/5 — Series 4 screen size *2019-03-19* I purchased app today and very happy with it but it does not look like it fits well on the series 4 44mm watch, it looks like an egg shaped display. Message comes back. Emailed developer. No response. Will adjust review when problem is fixed. I am revising my review. It now works and developer has added instructions. Thank you. My only gripe is that the top and bottoms of the altitude digits are cut off on my watch. I can still read the altitude but it takes a minute to interpret the numbers. REVISING AGAIN. Digit clipping is fixed in latest version. With local altimeter setting the altimeter is quite accurate. So much better than GPS estimates. I can usually get current altimeter setting by asking SIRI. We did get a single query on this issue from someone named Stan and we responded the same day to that person’s reply address. There is nothing wrong with the App. As with so many things in the Appleverse, a user must explicitly give permission to a device to access certain features, barometers included. Most users have already turned this permission on by the time they get the Altimeter App. We apologize for not giving explicit direction for this issue. Here goes the easy fix: On the paired iPhone, open Apple’s Watch App. Scroll down the main view to “Privacy” Turn On “Fitness Tracking”. That’s it! Fitness tracking enables all the motion sensors, accelerometers, and barometer on the watch for use by Apps.
