### 3/5 — Waaaay too sensitive

*2026-08-17, version 4.6.0*

I receive a 15% reduction via this app, and drive super calm and relaxed. So good driver opinion shared here.

It’s overall unobtrusive, but it has a hair trigger for braking, turning and acceleration for regular daily commuting, it even flags eco-mode adaptive cruise control in highway start and stop traffic and penalizes you. It will penalize you for going 5kph over a speed limit. And I’m not sure what database it’s using for posted speed, but it will flag you for speeding in the weirdest places.

It also flags bus and bike rides as car trips, which can get annoying if you don’t notice and change the trip type.

Overall it does what it does and I appreciate the substantial reduction in insurance, but wow calibrate the accelerometer and update your posted speed database please, it’s a bit silly.

### 3/5 — Braking is terrible

*2026-07-08, version 4.6.0*

I keep getting docked for braking when it’s just people brake checking me because they signal last second, it’s so unfair.

### 4/5 — Distraction assessment

*2026-06-23, version 4.6.0*

Overall the app is nice and intuitive. The only thing I believe could be improved is the way “distraction” (i.e. using mobile while driving) is assessed. In more than one situation I parked my car, walked somewhere else (a grocery store, for instance), and the app assumed I was using my mobile while driving. It doesn’t seem to understand when users are at the drive-thru, even though we are told the use of mobile devices in this situation will be understood as necessary; my rate for one trip went considerably down because I checked my phone while at the drive-thru.

### 2/5 — Inaccruate reading.

*2026-06-14, version 4.6.0*

I always drive safely. I always keep distance, never tailgate, I very rarely go over the speed limit/I match traffic speed. I never pass cars and I always yield.

I am getting false scoring out of absolutely nothing.

10/100 scoring on braking from normal driving, and I usually always get 99 or 100 scoring.

Also, There are trips that I take where I am not the driver; my friends drive less safer than I do, and I get points deducted for it.

I understand that there are bad apples who could abuse the feature of selecting whether if you’re driver/passenger. But good drivers should not have to stress because of this.

Devs, please do whatever you gotta do, to accurately track good driver behaviors. Use AI if you have to lol

### 3/5 — Cornering

*2026-05-16, version 4.6.0*

Not a fair system on a windy road

### 3/5 — Needs Tuning

*2026-05-10, version 4.6.0*

It’s a good app BUT hear me out! you can’t just keep constant speeds on highways, you need to drive considering road conditions, slow down and speed up! This brings my score wayyyy down!

### 2/5 — Latest version includes passenger trips in discount calculations

*2026-04-29, version 4.5.4*

It doesn’t respect the passenger/driver option anymore. It calculates both of them and significantly reduced my discount. This wasn’t a problem before but it started since last month…eerily close to my insurance renewal

### 1/5 — I cannot activate my account

*2026-04-27, version 4.5.4*

The activation code is not working. I had an account but I canceled old insurance and get new car and you provided new activation code which is not working.

### 1/5 — Inaccurate Tracking

*2026-04-19, version 4.5.4*

Even after marking trips as Passenger, it still counts towards your total score

### 2/5 — Used to be good but not anymore

*2026-04-19, version 4.5.4*

The app is not showing the score based on the driver only rides since at least a month. Regardless if the trip is marked as Driver, Passenger, Train or Other, looks like it is considering all and diluting the score.

Fix this ASAP

### 1/5 — Terrible detection of “distracted driving” and "context", driver vs passenger

*2026-04-18, version 4.5.4*

Getting bad driving scores for “distracted driving” when my phone is in my pocket or in the cup tray.

And lowerred scored on "context". This ridiculous app lacks the context to be lowering the context scores. Why is is context even a category to be graded on?!

Somehow this app has gotten even worse. Still getting dinged for the occasional “distracted driving” when my phone is in my pocket or in the cup tray. But incorrect scores marked as “passenger” are counting against my overall score instead of being ignored. I’d give this app a zero if I could.

### 1/5 — Downgrading

*2026-04-16, version 4.5.4*

Downgrading my review. Since a while ago the app is considering ALL rides in my score (even ones where I clearly state I was a passenger, not the driver).

I have got some really bad Uber drivers when travelling abroad and that’s showing under my score numbers - that’s really nonsense.

Previously the app used to respect the “Passenger” setting for trips.

### 1/5 — Inaccurate Tracking & Scoring

*2026-04-14, version 4.5.4*

The app keeps tracking my TTC subway/bus trips as driving. Changing the trip to “Passenger” no longer fixes the score (it used to). This directly impacts my driving score and discount.

Tracking and scoring are not reliable. Needs a fix.

### 1/5 — Trash App

*2026-04-14, version 4.5.4*

Counts the trips for the cars not insured with Aviva. My insured car is parked at the yard and I drive a companies truck from there, the app keeps tracking my trips on it. That vehicles is not even insured by Aviva. What a dumb app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Tracking Not updating despite correct settings

*2026-08-07, version 4.6.0*

I enabled Aviva Journey and ensured location access is set to “Always,” exactly as instructed. Still, my driving record hasn’t updated for more than a month. This is frustrating because the app seems to blame users for not giving permission, even when everything is set correctly. Please fix this issue so customers can rely on accurate tracking.

### 1/5 — Don’t accept using this app

*2026-07-29, version 4.6.0*

This app is absolutely trash don’t accept and don’t install it on your phone whatsoever even when you are a passenger still goes against you and at the end, this insurance is going to increase your rate traumatically I installed and used it on my phone for about a month and every trip I took even as a passenger it went against my driving record

### 1/5 — Cannot login???

*2026-07-28, version 4.6.0*

I have not been able to log in to this app for months. I’ve changed my password multiple times but no matter what I do, I always receive the “something went wrong, try again” alert and am now receiving messages that I will be unenrolled. Very frustrating

### 1/5 — fix

*2026-06-18, version 4.6.0*

not accurate

### 1/5 — Ridiculous detection

*2026-06-09, version 4.6.0*

How do the app know how did I perform in braking, cornering and even my wife is using me phone when I drive, it counted distracted driving. Funny

### 1/5 — This app should be illegal

*2026-06-05, version 4.6.0*

This app should be illegal, do not download it, you don’t need this 10% sale
This app calculates everything so bad and give you bad score . most stup app

### 1/5 — Aviva Journey App Review: Flawed Scoring System and Unfair Deductions

*2026-05-29, version 4.6.0*

The Aviva Journey app claims to reward safe driving, but after extensive use (15 months), I’ve noticed a major flaw in its scoring system: no matter how perfectly you drive, you’re almost guaranteed to lose points. This is especially frustrating when deductions are made for factors outside of your control.

The “Context” Issue – Unavoidable Point Deductions

The biggest flaw in the app is the “Context” score. No matter how well I drove—maintaining speed limits, smooth cornering, controlled braking, and avoiding distractions—I could never get a perfect 100 because the app automatically deducted points for “Context.” This category is vague, and there’s no clear explanation of what exactly is being penalized. If a driver follows all the rules of the road and gets perfect scores in every other category, why should they still be penalized? It creates a situation where a flawless drive is technically impossible.

Phone Usage Tracking is Inaccurate

Another major issue is how the app tracks phone usage. I lost points for using my phone inside a stationary car during a car wash—clearly not a situation that should be counted as “distracted driving.” The app doesn’t differentiate between using your phone while stopped in a safe environment versus using it while actively driving. This raises concerns about its ability to fairly assess phone use on private property versus on the highway.

Braking Deductions are Unfair

One of the most unfair aspects of the app is how it penalizes braking. If another driver suddenly stops in front of you and you apply firm braking to avoid an accident, the app considers it “harsh braking” and deducts points. This is a serious flaw because responsible drivers should not be punished for reacting appropriately to sudden hazards. In real-world driving, not all braking is within a driver’s control—sometimes, it’s a matter of safety. The app fails to recognize this distinction.

Inconsistent Trip Times and Scores

Looking at my trip history, there are inconsistencies in how scores are applied. For example, two identical trips with similar durations resulted in different scores. If all factors are the same, why should one trip score 100 and another 99? The scoring system lacks transparency, leaving drivers guessing why they lost points.

Final Verdict

While the app is a good concept for promoting safe driving, its execution is flawed. The inability to achieve a perfect score due to arbitrary “Context” deductions makes it frustrating, and its inability to distinguish between safe phone use (such as when parked) and actual distracted driving makes it unreliable. Additionally, penalizing necessary braking in emergency situations shows a lack of real-world driving understanding. Aviva needs to improve the fairness and accuracy of its scoring system before this app can truly be considered a fair and effective tool for assessing driving behavior.

Finally 20% discount for upcoming year is never 20%, not even close. I was suppose to get 20% discount and only got 11%. When spoke to Aviva representative they said it up to 20%. When asked what can I do to get 20% they had no input or answer.

### 1/5 — The App is not making sense

*2026-05-20, version 4.6.0*

It rated me cornering on a straight road, accelerating on a 50km limit road, braking upon slowing down from 100 metres ahead when lights turned yellow. Basically, it is not designed for safety- it is just for purpose of making you aware "big brother is watching you " and you don't deserve more discount. That's all.

### 1/5 — Very bad driving tracking app

*2026-05-09, version 4.6.0*

How the context score is determined? Always not getting 100 and t no longer recognizes the passenger/driver setting. It now scores both, which has significantly lowered my score.

### 1/5 — Inaccurate Score Reading

*2026-04-27, version 4.5.4*

Starting in March, all trips have been counted as driver trips, regardless of the selected choice.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Umair saeed DHET-426

*2026-08-14, version 4.6.0*

its is a very good experience with aviva journey app is good friendly all good..

### 5/5 — Bien mais pas toujours fidèle ou fiable

*2026-07-29, version 4.6.0*

### 5/5 — Good stuff

*2026-07-20, version 4.6.0*

I honestly think all drivers should have this app to qualify for insurance, regardless of who’s insuring. I encounter so much stupidity on the road. Racing, speeding, shoulder driving.

### 5/5 — Awesome experience

### 5/5 — Interesting tool for insurance companies

*2026-03-18, version 4.5.4*

So far so good averaging 98%. My issue is sudden breaking or cornering being deducted believe it should be only exercise if multiple occurrences happen not just singular events. Should be used as a tool for new drivers as well as drivers occurring points on their records. Also great to show data please when pulled over to argue a point.

### 5/5 — Bringing good driving habits

*2026-03-14, version 4.5.4*

It helps to evaluate my driving and correct as necessary

### 5/5 — Easy to use app

*2026-03-07, version 4.5.4*

Easy to review trip details and thanks for the Rewards!
