It’s a complicated app doing a complicated job. When it goes wrong (for me it was some weight and balance problems I couldn’t figure out) - the live chat and amazingly quick response made everything right, super quick. Whenever I really needed it it failed so had to use a paper map. I now use OzRunways which works fine. ### 1/5 — Cumbersome to use *2021-05-25, version 8.1.2* Would be heads down in an emergency because of the UI whilst the plane plummets to the ground.... but hey, am sure our company gets a discount to iron out all the design faults ### 1/5 — Misleading and deceptive advertising. *2016-11-24, version 7.2* I purchased the pro upgrade which is supposed to provide Geo referencing. The upgrade does not provide Geo referencing for airport diagram norm for approach plates as advertised. ### 1/5 — Program isn't worth downloading! *2014-08-23, version 4.0.2* I have downloaded the program, and I had installed it. The problem with the program is creating an aircraft to meet the specs of the one your are flying. I created my aircraft and put in the specs. but the program wouldn't let me add the necessary information necessary to do the weight and balance. Before downloading, and using, I'd suggest asking them what aircraft they have and if it is like yours. ### 2/5 — Just go OzRunways *2024-08-01, version 9.8.1* Just about every feature is inferior and missing so many features of OzRunways. The UI is severely outdated and looks like something designed about 20 years ago with clearly no proper UI/UX designers being consulted. It’s missing a lot of features that OzRunways has and accessing the same information is cumbersome at best. If I wasn’t forced to use this by my company I absolutely wouldn’t use it. ### 2/5 — Interface is a disaster *2024-07-08, version 9.8* These tools are meant to be a planning tool and perhaps a nav aid, nothing more. It takes 20 min to plan a flight with Oz runways first time you pick it up. Takes 20 min to do it with a pen and paper if you have access to the information you need. Several weeks later and this thing doesn’t even recognise the performance data that I have selected let alone leave the planning stage. It keeps crashing and the amount of attention it needs in the air is outright dangerous due to the sub par layout and buttons. Save your time an money an get a map plus calculator. Or OzRunways.. ### 2/5 — Advertised as free, isnt. *2023-04-04, version 9.3.1* App forces you to delete the app if you dont want to buy their subscription or sign up for the free trial. Its okay for apps like this to require subscriptions since not many people will be using them, but when I read the description and nothing is said about pricing and the app is available for free, i expect there to be a limited features available without cost. My decision was AvPlan for several reasons: intuitive and simple to use VFR and IFR features, approachable, responsive support, open for new ideas. This is a must to have app for any aviator. ### 5/5 — Excellent *2025-09-16, version 9.9.7* After getting used to it, I won’t use another EFB. I fly charter in a light turbo-prop and I would definitely say that this EFB pays for itself in less than a week. How? To easily and accurately choose the optimum flight level - that means saving valuable minutes and valuable fuel. This EFB exceeded my expectations again and again. I’m talking flight times +/- 1 minute and fuel burn to within 1%. Obviously, it requires a bit of work on the aircraft profile. But once you get it “dialled in” it works like a dream. SIX STARS ### 5/5 — So good *2025-05-20, version 9.9.3* Unfortunately I’ve been booted off the company subscription since I’m going to a new job that uses a competitor (starts with F and ends in oreflight), but avplan has served me flawlessly for the last 5 years. Customer support is always great. I’ll need to get my hands on an avplan hat so I can rep the brand worldwide.
