## What is Baby Sensory Signbook?

The Baby Sensory Signbook app teaches you all signs you need, so you and your baby can start communication and language development. Learn to communicate long before the development of speech, using our simple Babysigns.

FEATURES
- All official Baby Sensory baby signs right in your pocket.
- Find a sign super fast with our easy interface.
- Make a list of favourites, for the signs you're learning.
- Learn to sign 'Say Hello' and 4 other songs with music.
- Looping videos, so you can easily see how it’s done.
- Slow down the video, to better view the hand shapes.

ABOUT THE APP
With the Baby Sensory app, you can easily learn all official signs to make early communication possible. This creates a stronger parent-child bond and stimulates early language development.
Even the youngest baby wants to tell you what they need and how they feel. But they’re unable to express themselves verbally and may cry if their needs are not met. Signing helps your baby to express his or her needs and takes the guesswork out of parenting.

### 5/5 — Needs BSL letters section

*2025-06-05*

Arguably the best minimal sign application on smartphones, only lacking the alphabet in BSL which would make many of the signs easier to remember.

### 5/5 — Lovely app

*2022-11-11, version 2.0*

Got the app after attending the classes. The signs are a combination of makaton and asl.
As I teacher I’ve used many of the signs and found the app great at refreshing my memory and teaching my son. Not really useful if you want bsl but, this is much easier to teach babies and makaton is commonly used in UK primary schools anyway.

### 1/5 — No signs or songs

*2022-09-21, version 2.0*

I just paid $5.99 for an app with no content. Complete rip off. 1 star is too many stars.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-12-01, version 2.0*

Really disappointed. I expected more than typing a word and a demonstration of how that word is signed (and not even in BSL). I think I expected more of an “education” on how to use them/introduce them to baby. Also the songs just show signs for certain words in the song so if you don’t know how the songs sound this is useless (you can listen to the songs but only if sign up to Spotify etc).

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-07-04, version 2.0*

Just purchased and really disappointed with the lack of words available.
I would not have bought.
Some random words unlikely to use, but others that would be typical and everyday aren’t here

### 2/5 — I can’t use 165 of 248 signs (66%)

*2020-02-18, version 2.0*

To help the users who are wanting to learn British signs, most of the signs on this app aren’t completely appropriate but the following signs are OK:

aeroplane, baby, banana, ball, bed, bicycle, big, big bed, bird, biscuit, black, blanket, blue, boat, book, bottle, breastfeeding, broken, bubble, bye, car, chair, cheese, child, clean, cold, come, cuddly toy, day, drawing, drink, dry, duck, elephant, face, film, fish, fork, girl, give, hat, hear, hello, help, here, house, hungry, hush, I, ice cream, idea, ill, inside, little, man, me, mittens, night, no, orange, outside, paper, pig, round, sailor, same, sand, shop, sign, sister, sky, sleep, sorry, stand, TV, teacher, time, tree, white, winter, yellow, you.

For the 165 words in this app that shouldn’t be copied by BSL learners, you can find correct British signs from Deaf Books, Spread the Sign, BSL Signbank, Famlingo, Sign BSL, British-Sign.

Although the functionality of the app is good and user friendly, only a third of the signs (83 out of 248) signs are from British Sign Language (BSL). As someone in the UK, I think it’s important that the signs used as a communication tool are also signs that are part of a recognised language used in the UK. This will help with communication with the wider community and when children are in UK schools. Most of the signs in this app aren’t useful for this or are American signs, which British sign language users don’t use.

The signs in this app may only be intended for members of the Baby Sensory community but it would be good if the app displayed a disclaimer to inform all users that the majority of the signs aren’t correct for BSL or are based on another country’s signs.

Any signs will work as a communication tool but for those wanting to learn official British signs, it would be helpful to let users know which 1/3 of the signs are from BSL and that 2/3 of the signs (165 out of 248) are shouldn’t be copied.

A few other things that might be help for the developers to know: There is a video glitch on a couple of the videos; are, how, you. Some of the signs go off the screen and you can’t see them fully. The sign for tomorrow is going the wrong direction.

Aside from the content, it’s a cool app and I like the design! It’s just a shame that most of the signs aren’t transferable to British Sign Language.

Best wishes

### 2/5 — Little disappointing

*2019-09-05, version 2.0*

I would not have bought this app had I known there wouldn’t be many signs. The signs for Good morning, Good night, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, bedroom or room, which seem to be everyday basic words are not part of the app.
Also, the app sells itself by saying there are songs on the app. Perhaps it should have been specified there are only 4!!
So for paying for this, it wasn’t worth that amount of money.

### 3/5 — No signing videos for the songs

*2019-06-10, version 2.0*

I was hoping for a video of someone signing whilst the song is playing so that I am teaching bub the right way.
Yes some are in the individual word list, but not all.
Worth considering for next update🤷‍♀️

### 3/5 — Great app but needs more songs

*2019-05-04, version 2.0*

It’s a great app and love teaching my little one to communicate, but it’s really pricey for so few songs. There are so many songs in the baby sensory classes, I expected them all (or at least more than just 5!) to be on the app. Bit disappointing.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money!

*2019-02-11, version 1.2.4*

All of the signs are completely wrong. Even ‘hello’ is wrong!
