They appear once you choose a word. Not a deal breaker, I just toggle off dark mode from the quick control screen of my iPhone. I wanted to also do this! (I’ve also always wanted to learn ASL). I like how this app has a decent amount of words to learn and videos explain how to do the sign. It’s great! Love the app, but HATE how you can’t see any of the words until you touch them. The Lite version of this app doesn’t have this problem, so I’m a little frustrated that I paid money and now have issues. Not sure if it’s a white text on white background issue, but makes it very difficult to find the right menu option or search for the right word. I started out with the lite version and loved it so much that I paid to have the full app. Not only did it help me teach my baby sign, but it’s helped me to communicate with hearing impaired people as well. In the beginning this app worked just as the lite version did— all the words appeared in the dictionary so you could find which ones you were looking for. But in the past few years that has changed— there are symbols for the words but no actual word until you click on the picture. This makes it hard to find the words you’re looking for…when the words first disappeared I thought it was just a glitch. But as I sit here now on a new phone where I downloaded the most updated version of this app, that is still the case.
