Its usefulness to me plummeted when I discovered that it doesn’t allow it. ### 3/5 — Needs Improvement *2026-05-10, version 6.3.2* I don’t know how many times I’ve been texted a code and selected “remember this device” and it always forgets. The lack of previews (for images especially) turns the download process into total guesswork. I need to open another app just to copy the 2FA and keep repeating this every single time. This is consistent for over a year now. ### 1/5 — Awful UI for website *2024-05-05, version 6.2.1* I'm writing this on behalf of a client of mine. I had recommended Backblaze based on internet recommendations but I hadn't tried it myself. Ugh. The backup mysteriously failed on her Mac for 32 days. It was non-obvious that it had. When I was checking it out, I wasn't sure that it had but I wasn't absolutely sure about that. Then I contacted customer support for help. My first attempt at trying to get it to work again failed. It was a bit unclear because it had a disk scanning progress bar that was stuck at 100% for several hours but I also got an alert that the backup had failed. This was confusing… I then contacted customer support and did an uninstall and reinstall which also failed with unclear error messages. After that, I gave up and asked for the subscription to be canceled. In my mind, a great backup should be more like Apple’s Time Machine: you should be easily able to check when it was backed up and see what files were backed up. Some bugs seem to remain, which is silly and should be cleaned up so it does not reflect on Backblaze as a whole. For example, for an initial backnI have going, the number of remaining files is current, but the time of last upload is just wrong (says it’s one week, which seems to be the time the entire backup started). ### 3/5 — Functionally works, Needs QOL *2023-11-15, version 6.0* Works well functionally, but the fact that I can’t see images or videos without downloading is a major flaw to me. It’s one of the main reasons I would choose a competitor. ### 1/5 — Dodgy *2023-09-20, version 6.0* I’m on a two year plan and wanted to disable auto renewal. Turns out you can’t. You can’t disable it and you can’t remove your credit card unless you first delete your backup sets. Seems like a scammy trick where they’ll hope you forget and you’ll end up subscribed for another two years. Shameful. ### 3/5 — Jacked up Login *2023-09-19, version 6.0* Idk what changed but having to enter my email address every time to login is getting old. Face ID won’t work. Super aggravating!!! ### 1/5 — Clunky, no support, total mess *2023-07-27* I saw this back up program and it was well priced. I have used this for a while and I don’t know what is going on but with new Mac updates the system is unusable the app install doesn’t work. They request logs which also fail to generate. I can’t log into the site to get the logs. Worst part? They have an email only support. So your precious backups, if your in trouble, you’ll have to wait for a drip of slow emails to get help. As of now I’ve gone weeks with no backups being done as I can’t get anything to work and I’m on my 35th email back and forth with no help. A day will go by with no responses. No phone is available and while it’s 2023, for something as important as file backups, there is NO chat feature. No tech support to figure this out. So day by day we exchange emails and one solution fails after another and even though I’ve paid for the service, you’ll get another not working solution and “sorry for your frustration”. I prepaid two years so they have yet to even think gee, he shouldn’t pay for the month or so he has no backups!! No chat feature? Serious? I am at the End of my rope. The restore function also is painful and slow, clunky and takes forever to refresh. Stay away. Now I know why it’s well priced. I enjoyed the unlimited backup space-but you get what you Pay for. This is made further frustrating by the fact that the main app is not responsive at all. They even lock scrolling on via CSS so you can’t see the bucket size on the desktop site. Tell me your backend devs wrote all your front end without telling me all your back end devs wrote your front end. UX? Never heard of it! ### 1/5 — Great service, terrible app *2025-12-31, version 6.3.2* There is absolutely no reason for this app to stop the music that I’m playing. Used to work great. ### 1/5 — A nightmare the moment you need to restore files *2025-04-17, version 6.3.1* I’ve had Backblaze for years, backing up my Mac plus and external drive with all my family photos and videos. Never needed to restore anything until a couple of days ago. My external drive failed and I choose to restore the entire drive. First, restore from the Mac app is really slow. I left my computer on with the restore in progress and after 2 days I want to check. At about 75% restore, the app stated to skip files and download speed went down to 0%. Log files shows authentication problem. I restart my Mac and retry, the app asks my password again and I continue the download. The skipped files remain skipped. According to Backblaze, this is a known issues with large restore. They suggest to retry by skipping existing files. I retry and again, so slow anyway, and after 2 days authentication problem again, password to reenter. I’m now restoring manually a folder a time. What’s the point to pay for a service that it’s not reliable the moment it’s needed? ### 1/5 — Garbage *2025-03-11, version 6.3.1* Why doesn’t this work?! Just stuck spinning on browse. Can’t view the files. Fails when needed!! ### 1/5 — Unusable *2025-01-27, version 6.2.2* Can’t see any of files and the app doesn’t even pull up my drives most of the time. ### 1/5 — Totally unreliable *2024-12-11, version 6.2.2* This is a great service right up until the point of which you need to restore something. This app constantly logs me out, requiring me to re-authenticate every single time I try to use it. I could live with that however it doesn’t allow you to select a date range limiting the files you can select and if you do find the one you want you better hope it hasn’t been corrupted. Turns out Backblaze is entirely unreliable. I shall not be renewing. ### 1/5 — App does not work *2024-10-08, version 6.2.2* I’ve tried to download files a few times in the last few months and the app always gets stuck loading, on multiple devices. Backblaze support could not help, and the issue isn’t fixed even though it’s been months. ### 1/5 — App does not work *2024-07-08* The backup on my computer is fine, but the app is almost completely non-functional. I can log in but can’t see or download any files in the app. ### 1/5 — Lost a backup and no help from support *2024-05-24, version 6.2.1* I was a long time customer until I discovered that an external hard drive that was backed up was deleted before the 30 day time limit. I contacted support about the issue, they weren’t too sure, so they had re-upload the drive’s content. I started to do that, but I didn’t upload the entire drive just in case it happened again. About three weeks later, the drive’s contents were deleted again. Even though I paid for the one year extension. I contacted support again and basically was told that there was nothing they could do and the ticket was closed. I complained about the service, but never got a response from anyone at the company. Loved this handy mobile app. Face ID works smoothly for me btw for anyone reading the reviews ### 5/5 — Remote Downloading *2025-01-04, version 6.2.2* I was able to download my passport photos directly from my backup without having to manually upload them to cloud storage or save them to my phone. ### 5/5 — Amazing Data Tool *2024-07-15, version 6.2.1* Backblaze is an amazing cloud storage system. Here is how I use it and why I think it’s incredible. I use a Mac Studio at home with multiple external drives plugged in. Backblaze’s desktop application allows me to back up all of those drives and access the files on them in the exact way I’ve organized them. Additionally it serves as a backup for my backups with time-machine. With this mobile application I can access all of those files on my phone whenever I need to. I can also move files over to my work computer at any time.
