It’s so frustrating that I have gone to other sites to make my purchases. I will spend more at their competitors because the hassle isn’t worth it. PLEASE FIX THIS APP. It’s been this bad for a long time. Update: still a headache to use. CSC, the Texas PE Firm that bought them will continue to lay people off and slash costs in the form of pto reduction, and how about we cancel almost all of your maternity leave too. Go shop at Walmart, this place is basically the next MooseJaw. RIP. Everything from gear heads, to YouTube reviews. The only area that NEEDS to be improved is their app. It freezes, it’s slow, it crashes. And it does all of these things frequently. I normally look for something quick on the app before it fails and then later I go onto my computer and order what I want to order. They really need to figure this out, because they really are a high quality company. ### 2/5 — Trick to Going Back a Page? *2025-01-31, version 4.3.0* I want to like and use this app but how do you navigate back to a previous page? Their app is very glitchy. It crashes quite often. Eg, click sale link and then try to filter on categories or brands. The app crashes with a blank white screen. Sometimes it goes back to homepage others it just hangs. I raised this through chat and they said “update the app”. The app hasn’t been updated in a year. Separately. If you order anything from them the start texting you and emailing. It’s all or nothing (eg, no texts or many texts). If you click on something in the app or email about 1/2 hour later you’ll get a text saying we see you looking at those shoes, come back and buy. Or thanks for looking at ski pants, here’s some others to look at. It’s constant and no way to limit the type or amount of text without turning off completely. No way to print label from app. Very poor navigation. This app seems like it was created when the iPhone 1 came out. Tried buying things several times and it feels like Backcountry has been hacked or hijacked by a non entity. Really sad to see because it used to be great! Go back to however things were before, you’ve literally missed out on at least $1,700 in things I would have purchased that I ended up buying elsewhere because the app and mobile site are awful. ### 1/5 — Inferior App *2024-12-04, version 4.3.0* The app definitely struggles. One of the most frustrating parts is not having a back button that scrolls up and down with you. I end up having to sign in multiple times while shopping. When I open images sometimes it gets stuck in zoomed-in state and the only way to get back is to close and reopen, so you lose your place and context. These things combine to waste a lot of time. I try over and over again to make purchases but am unable so I purchase elsewhere. You offer PayPal but the app won’t complete a PayPal transaction…I have no problems with your competitor apps. This app needs a complete makeover, you don’t even offer a way to get out of the checkout page so I have to exit and clear everything then start over. Not user friendly at all. Impressive! So much better than Sierra Trading Post that took a week and a half just to get the order out their door. So far I'm quite impressed with Backcountry. ### 5/5 — Overall *2019-01-10, version 2.9* Backcountry has been my go to site when ordering any climbing equipment. They have always been very professional and extremely fast with shipping! Their staff is very knowledgeable and ready and willing to help. Not to mention you can also find great deals all the time!! It’s been great to me for over two years and is my go to for all things adventure related, love these guys, stay goatworthy you goons and keep sending it🤙 ### 5/5 — Love it but for some bugs … *2018-10-05* Speaking as a UX Designer who designs mobile apps … might disqualify me from reviewing, but here goes. I usually search by brand. I noticed that when you look at a certain brand, and back out to the list of All Brands, the list returns to its default alpha sorting, with numeric-names brands at the top. So if I was looking at a brand that starts with the letter Q, and I want to see what brands come after, I have to thumb scroll from the top again. Minor nuisance, I know. But I’ve noticed that some other retail apps will return you to your previous scroll position (look at Nordstrom, REI and Zappos). Also, I do like the news feed. I noticed that a story posted summer 2017 remained at the top of the list for over a year. Perhaps this can be updated more frequently. ### 5/5 — Great new app *2018-09-10, version 2.8* I admit, the old versions were TRASH, but the newest version is everything an Aussie would want, brands that usually don't ship here. ### 5/5 — My favorite gear shop, period. *2018-08-16, version 2.8* BackCountry is where I get all my top tier gear, and about 85% of all my other gear. Their customer support and Gearheads are awesome. Super friendly and if something didn’t fit or was the wrong product for me, they make it super easy to get the correct fit or product. Not to mention, they have the best price 9/10 times. I ski, snowboard, moto & Whitewater kayak and they 99% always have the gear I need! Recently I bought a pair of winter boots from them that ended up being too small. I had been wanting to try a pair of Smith Chromapop sunglasses for awhile but was quite loyal to Costa and didn’t want to spend the cash in fear of them not being as good as the Costa’s I was used to. Because of the fact that Backcountry offered a pair of Smith’s I had been wanting to try for a hundred bucks off retail I decided to give it a try. I will never look back to Costa again.
