Bought everything there was to buy, every collection, in app, gumroad ones - everything. Wallpaper quality varying is a normal thing, and it's all subjective feel in the end. However for last several months, not to say a year, wallpaper quality seems to have steady decline. Walls are more and more basic and minimalistic, and not in a good way. It generally feels like a lack of effort or inspiration. All the recent streaks collections are kind of meh; sectors, circles, void, express, pro collection orbix... Pro Pack collection is completely forgotten, with fresh wallpaper every three months. Similar concepts are being reused over and over again. Please get some of the old inspiration back. UPDATE: Also a lot of AI mess, unfortunately. Since one of the taglines of the app is "original", I think it's failr to remove that. Old original designs mixed with AI slop, would be a better fit for current state of backdrop designs. ### 4/5 — Excellente application, mais évolutions décevante pour les abonnés premium *2026-02-28* Application de grande qualité sur le plan esthétique et technique. Les fonds d’écran sont soignés, variés et régulièrement mis à jour. L’abonnement Premium apporte une réelle valeur ajoutée sur le contenu principal. En revanche, l’ajout récent de la fonctionnalité « Streaks » pose problème. Le système impose de revenir quotidiennement dans l’application pour récupérer 1 coin toutes les 24h, avec un total d’environ 160 coins nécessaires pour débloquer l’ensemble des collections. Cela représente environ 160 jours d’ouverture quotidienne, uniquement pour appuyer sur un bouton. Ce mécanisme de rétention artificielle, combiné à des achats supplémentaires de coins, est difficilement acceptable pour un utilisateur ayant déjà payé l’offre Premium. Une version Premium devrait logiquement inclure l’accès à ce type de contenu sans contrainte temporelle ou micro-transactions additionnelles. L’application reste excellente dans son cœur de proposition, mais cette évolution dégrade l’expérience et donne une impression de monétisation excessive. ### 2/5 — Desperate for some artists *2026-02-22, version 5.1.3* This used to be one of the best wallpaper apps but for a while now the releases are not good and infrequent. The app itself is great but the AI Slop art is less than desired. Also the bottom bar sometimes doesn’t stay to the Liquid Glass design and flash bangs you with a white bar. Good luck to everyone else, I’m uninstalling. ### 1/5 — Robbed and Scammed *2026-01-16* I was scammed twice on this app, once on Android when I bought the pro version and now on iOS after buying the pro version again. I made the payment and after a month I no longer have access to the PRO features of the app. When I try to use these features, I am instructed to pay for the PRO version AGAIN, and the first time at the time of purchase they make it very clear that it is a one-time purchase and not a subscription service. ### 1/5 — Used to like it, now filled with microtransactions and what appears to be AI “art” *2026-01-14, version 5.1.1* Really liked this app at first, and I really appreciated that it was a one time payment to unlock the full app. Today they just added microtransactions to buy more wallpapers (that all look to be AI generated to boot) and tried to pitch it as some fun new “streak” feature. I am very disappointed. ### 1/5 — “Pro” apparently means “Pay Again” *2026-01-05, version 5.1.0* I bought the Pro version of Backdrops believing I was paying for a premium experience: no ads, full access, and a fair deal. Silly me. Now the app introduces additional wallpaper packs locked behind “coins”, which, surprise!, you have to buy separately. So let me get this straight: I paid for Pro, but Pro no longer means access to everything. It just means access to the privilege of being asked to pay again. This feels less like adding value and more like redefining what “Pro” means after the money is already taken. A classic move: sell a premium version, then carve out new “exclusive” content later and pretend it was never part of the deal. The wallpapers are great, no doubt. But the monetisation strategy is disappointing and frankly insulting to users who already supported the app financially. If I wanted a free-to-play economy with coins and microtransactions, I’d download a mobile game, not a wallpaper app. At this point, Pro feels pointless, and trust once lost is very hard to wallpaper over. Shame.
