However, the checker moved the number of the wrong dice. Before clicking the other checker, or the dice (I never finalized my move), i wanted to correct my selection. However, there is no "undo" button. ### 4/5 — Good app, needs some updates *2023-02-19* I like this app’s no nonsense interface and usage of FIBS. However, it’s been 2 years since the last update. It could usage a forgotten password feature, bot identifiers, more modern boards, etc. ### 4/5 — Latest Update causes crashes *2020-08-16* Chat now does not work and crashes app when you select chat. Sorry for the inconvenience and best regards, the BGO team ### 4/5 — Gorgeous interface but way too many bots!! *2016-02-01* Beautifully rendered app, but way too many bots. Waaaaaay too many bots. Ridiculous amount. And there is something weird about the game. Can't explain it. The latest revision made the in-game options a lot smoother. However for playing FIBS it's just fine. ### 3/5 — Needs iOS 7 *2014-01-12, version 2.4.1* I have been very happy with this app for a long time - it is by far the most convenient way to get to FIBS that I have seen. Recently the app started crashing every time I open it. I can only assume this is some incompatibility with iOS 7. If this gets fixed then my review would be 5 stars. ### 4/5 — Pluses and minuses *2013-03-08* To offer previous comments about crashes or login problems, I want to mention that the developers seem to have worked out the kinks. My app never crashes nor does it have login problems. That said, here are my other comments, pro and con Pro - As opposed to many BG apps where u play against a computer program, here you are playing real people all over the world. You can chat while playing, create a friends list, rate players according to their honesty (sadly some players drop out of a game rather than lose), know the skill level of a player, etc. Playing against people is way more fun than playing against a computer program. Con - Fibs uses a weighted scoring system that aids low scorers and hinders high scorers, ostensibly to try to even the playing field. I don't agree with this one bit. You should get credited the points you win and debit the points you lose. Con -Fibs will deny this but after playing on fibs for about a year, I can categorically affirm that the dice is not random. I can predict when doubles will be rolled given a particular board setup and player action. Con - There's no app support. No way to offer feedback or report problems. Overall, I still give the app 4 stars because I've had such fun connecting and playing backgammon with people all over the world. ### 1/5 — DO NOT INSTALL NEW VERSION *2012-09-10, version 2.3* new update is full of glitches. Login issues, ghost shadows on the board, sometimes only displays 2 of your tiles at the start of a match. BBBAAAADDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ### 1/5 — App keeps crashing *2012-09-08, version 2.3* Ever since this latest version on 9/4 the app will crash unexpectedly during a match or fail to launch by not logging in to FIBS. And each time you try to select the settings option "switch direction" the app immediately quits. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Fibs 👍 Bot play 👎 *2022-10-14, version 3.3.1* Great that there’s a Fibs client still available. If the devs are still reading these reviews please add a delay when rolling out of purgatory against a bot. It’s so freaking frustrating not knowing what your failed roll was. **Update** Have now deleted app as I find it unplayable because of above. ### 1/5 — No support *2017-08-01* Have been playing for years and #1, the algorithm is skewed. It is impossible to roll 12-13 times and never roll a one. The bots have unbelievable luck. My support issue I all of a sudden received a message that my connection is rejected and my server and port settings are invalid. No idea what that means and no way to trouble shoot or fix. No way to get help. **Developer response:** Hi there, Thank you for your review. Over the 25 years FIBS is running, many users accused FIBS rolls to be not entirely random. Some even did studies, which have never yielded conclusive evidence for a significant non-randomness, see http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi/trackback/rgb.cgi?view+591 or http://www.pattib.org/fibs_dice/ . As for the server downtime, we are very sorry about that. Apparently there is a problem with the FIBS backgammon server. We are currently unable to contact the administrator of FIBS, but as far as we can tell at the moment it seems that it could take a few days until the server can be repaired. In the meantime, you could instead use the FIBS-like server ti-ga.com. To change the server, open Backgammon Online, bring up the settings from the tab bar, and switch on "Expert Mode" in FIBS > Configure. This will bring up a Server field in FIBS > Account. Change its value from fibs.com to ti-ga.com. Unfortunately, you will need to create a new account on that server. You could also try to find opponents via Game Center Matchmaking. Best regards, the BGO team ### 1/5 — This App relies on a non supported server *2016-12-10* Bought this App but it needs a server that appears to be no longer be supported. I have been trying to get authenticated for weeks. "Miss Manors" the BOT, looks to be a dead mailbox drop. What a waist of money. **Developer response:** Hi jt_took_a_byte, we are very sorry for your experience. There was indeed a problem with the server administration, which has however been resolved at the beginning of this year. Authentications of new accounts should happen timely again. ### 1/5 — TERRIBLE *2015-03-03, version 3.0.4* The dice are not random. One of the players is constantly getting doubles while the other has the worst possible roll. Virtually impossible to play against a bot and win no matter what level the odds are stacked against you. Need to randomize the rolls and stop giving one player or a bot continual doubles. Horribly ran and operated. ### 1/5 — 66 backgammon *2014-06-16, version 3.0.2* This is a good board game with plenty of players the only problem is that the dice are not random and I feel I have wasted my money ### 1/5 — Cannot recommend *2014-01-07* There are a dearth of online ways to play backgammon against real opponents, so it is tempting to play BGOnline2 just to play backgammon, but there are problems with the system that outweigh this to such a degree I rate it 1/5 and do not recommend it. First, the community cliquish. Most importantly though is that the dice are very peculiar - weird enough to wonder what is going on, but you do not have the data to answer the question. Calling the dice random does not address this because no one is looking at stats that take into account the context of the game - that is, if I roll doubles when I need them, but you roll doubles when you are on the bar and cannot get in - there is nothing random about that, but it may appear so because the overall quantity of doubles is even and may even be close to the expected random variable value. No one addresses this and the conversations can get quite rude and arrogant. I would love to find another system because there is something off in a way that very creep about FIBS and this client program. Sorry. ### 1/5 — Mr *2013-07-18, version 2.4.1* Purchased the app but I am not allowed to have an account to play games...!!! The latency is shocking though, and you wind-up hurting you're finger tapping the screen that hard in frustration! Mouse sensitivity is lost on start up most of the time. If you can get past this, it works. ### 5/5 — Best online backgammon app *2022-04-02* I have been playing on this app for over 20 years and I’ve met so many friends that play backgammon all over the world. It’s fun to go on at any time of the day or night, and see familiar faces. It’s the next best thing to being there, as It’s not like we have a choice in the matter. How I long for the old days and playing at a club where everybody plays backgammon..Fibs was especially a lifesaver during Covid. It does have a tendency to have issues at times with the server but that’s usually repaired right away. We are so grateful to Patti for hosting the server and taking care of it for all these years. Highly recommend. ### 5/5 — Bar none *2020-10-26* On FIBS nothing could be better than this app. Flat out. Maybe there’s better but I could care less since I want nothing more than to play live opponents(or bots which on FIBS all bots are identified) with no interference or ads or delays and with maximal speed. Period. ### 5/5 — Don't blame 64 on FIBS downtime *2017-08-16* I've loved FIBS and this app for years. Lately (summer 2017) a hardware issue has taken the FIBS servers down. Temporarily of course. 64 is a great app for playing backgammon against humans and expert bots. No non-fibs based app can even come close... if you don't know, 64 is a nicely designed interface linking to the independently run FIBS server. I felt I should send some love their way because people were blaming them for a FIBS issue out of their control. Plus they've responded to reviews telling you how to change the server within the app and get to playing again. That's support to me. ### 5/5 — BEST BACKGAMMON ONLINE GAME HANDS DOWN!!! *2016-09-27* I've been playing on this app since it was released and the competition of players from all around the world has been great & the games very enjoyable:) Real-time play on the best interface there is. As a front end to the FIBS server, I always have people or bots to play with. The interface is intuitive, snappy, and very stable. ### 5/5 — goood! *2014-09-27, version 3.0.2* what a great client for FIBS. (well, it's a bit pricey, but worth it i guess). the messaging is nice, very iphone-stylish, which makes it easy to communicate, heaps better than on pc. all boads look pretty, moves are animated. my only suggestion - it would be nice to be able to switch between simultaneous and consecutive style of animation for your opponents checkers. otherwise cudos to the developers. ### 5/5 — Thank you! *2012-11-13* I was a FIBS player for a long time, and it's been nearly impossible for my sister and me to play backgammon long-distance until now. Much appreciated. ### 5/5 — Works better than my laptop app! *2012-05-05* I've been using this for months now to play on FIBS and I've been very impressed with this app. I think it is very cleverly written and does everything I need it to. In "expert" mode you can type commands right into the fibs terminal if you want to. I love how well it is integrated into find and gives you a players repot rep.
