## What is Backyard Phonics Adventure?

You ready for some backyard fun? We will climb trees, make collections inside of jars and explore new things. Backyard Phonics Adventure was designed by a kindergarten teacher with both students and teachers in mind. It uses letters and pictures to teach children letters and their sounds as well as beginning phonics. You can match a beginning sound to a letter or a beginning sound to another picture with the same beginning sound.

Parents: This game provides an introduction, practice or review to help teach your child the letter sounds as well as beginning phonics. It uses fun graphics and a variety of game settings to keep your child active and interested in learning. Be active in their learning. Play it with them and talk about each letter, picture and sound as you go. Most important, make it fun…make it an adventure!

Teachers: This game can be used with an interactive white board in a whole group setting or in small groups. It provides a way for you to choose specific target letters you are working on in class or that your students may just need a little extra review. I don’t know about you but pulling out new picture cards every day wastes a lot of my valuable prep time when I can be preparing other lessons. This comes with the picture cards already attached to the letter. It teaches letter recognition, letter sounds, and beginning sounds. The fun graphics catch the attention of students and after all… which student wouldn’t want to go on a backyard adventure?

I think this app has a lot of promise, but the voice is painful and it is unfair to ask a child to sort just the /b/ sound over and over without changing the letter each round.
