## What is Backyard Sap & Maple Syrup?

Backyard Sap Tracker is a simple, privacy-first tool for hobby maple syrup makers. Track everything from tap to bottle on your phone with no account required.

## Dashboard

View sap flow days, gallons collected, and estimated syrup output at a glance. Switch between a daily timeline and calendar view to see weather conditions, collection totals, and sap flow predictions.

## Tap Management

Add and manage individual taps by tree species and location. Track installation dates and monitor per-tap collection volumes.

## Sap Collection

Log daily sap collection by tap with optional Brix readings. See per-collection syrup estimates based on the Rule of 86.

## Boil Tracking

Record boil sessions with pre-boil and post-boil volumes. Track syrup output across the season.

## Weather Integration

Automatic weather data from Open-Meteo or the National Weather Service. Sap flow conditions are calculated from daily highs and lows -- freeze overnight followed by a thaw above 32F marks a sap flow day. Historical 5-year averages extend the forecast out to 45 days.

## Privacy

All data is stored locally on your device. No account, no cloud, no tracking. GPS coordinates are only used to fetch your local weather forecast. Export your data anytime as JSON or CSV.

Season filtering for boils -- The Gal Boiled widget now correctly totals only the selected season. Boil dates are included in season detection so the app defaults to the right season on load.

Collection entry for pulled taps -- You can now log sap collections for dates between a tap's install and pull date, even after the tap has been pulled for the season. This allows entering historical or backdated collection data.

Historical weather for past seasons -- Switching to a past season with tap dates now fetches historical weather data, even if some weather entries already exist for that season.

Weather source accuracy -- Saving a collection no longer silently overwrites forecast or historical weather as a manual entry. Only weather values you actually change are saved as manual.

Tap pull date validation -- The app now prevents setting a tap pull date before the tap install date.

Celsius support -- Your temperature unit is auto-detected from your location or set manually in Settings. All weather, freeze checks, and sap flow logic adjust automatically.

Canadian location support -- Postal codes and city names now work with a multi-tier geocoding fallback.

Boil batch tracking -- Mark collections as boiled or discarded. After saving a boil, the app identifies which collections were used and offers to mark them. Discarded collections are excluded from estimates.

Boil tab widgets -- Paired summary widgets show Available Sap / Estimated Output and Gallons Boiled / Syrup. Tap any syrup amount for a volume conversion breakdown.

Tap date correction -- Logging a collection before a tap's install date or season start prompts you to update those dates.

Bug fixes: Updated edge-to-edge display APIs, added tablet support, replaced deprecated SplashActivity calls.
