## What is badtakes.io?

Bad Takes is a dub booth for your phone. Pick a scene from an internet clip, record your own take on every line, and hear the whole thing played back in your voice.

HOW IT WORKS
Grab a scene from the built-in Catalog, or open a scene file a friend shares with you. Read through the table read to see how it's cast, step into the recording room and record each line one at a time, then head to the screening room to hear your finished dub against the original.

Every take gets scored on pitch, rhythm, and timing, so you can see how close you got to the original delivery, or how far off the rails you went.

RECORD TOGETHER
Start a Collab to dub a scene with friends in real time. Everyone claims a character, records their lines, and the app keeps everyone's takes in sync automatically. Share your room's code with the people you want to join.

YOUR VOICE, YOUR TAKES
Turn on the camera to record your reactions alongside your voice. Recording, playback, and exporting your own takes.

AN ACCOUNT ONLY WHEN YOU WANT ONE
Everything on your phone works without signing in. Sign in with just an email address when you want to start or join a Collab: we send a one-time code, no password to create, no password to lose.

The Catalog holds a few short, widely shared clips to dub. Every other scene is one you import from your own files.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-25

A welcome the moment you open the app. Sign in or create a free account with just your email, or tap Continue and use everything without one.

Sign in for more scenes. A quiet chip in the library, and an offer after your first finished dub, both easy to skip.

Anonymous diagnostics, your choice. A new Settings toggle, on by default, switches off in one tap.

Keyboard up? The tab bar gets out of the way. Typing a sign-in code or a search no longer risks a tab under your thumb.

The screening room keeps the video in view. The script and score scroll beside it, and the scene score folds to one row until you tap it.

The table read stays put too. The stage holds its place while the script scrolls beside it, and the cast folds to one row until you tap it.

Video and Vertical reel exports on iPhone: your dub renders on our server and saves straight to Photos. A free account is all it needs.

Export in the background. Starting a Video or reel no longer takes the screen: a pill shows how it is going, the rest of the app stays yours, and you can leave the app entirely — it keeps rendering and tells you when the file is ready.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-19

• Your takes sound like you, not a phone call. The iPhone records through its voice processing, so a take comes in at the level of the line it dubs, and it plays back through the speaker instead of the earpiece.
• The booth waveform moves while you record, and Original and My take show a playhead as they play.
• Hold to play. Original and My take now work like Record: press and hold to hear, let go to stop. Settings → Booth buttons switches all three to Tap.
• Playback is steadier. The first play after a take no longer goes silent, and sound no longer drops out after the app has sat in the background.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-18

Fixes sound not playing in scenes, lines and your takes when your iPhone is in silent mode, after unplugging headphones, or after a call or Siri.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-17

No release notes.
