About

Xenolog is a planetary survey of real animals. Point your iPhone at a living creature, fire the scanner, and the mainframe identifies it, cuts it out of the photograph and files it as a specimen record only you hold. There are 1,135 species on file and the mainframe is empty. Go outside and fill it. THE SCAN Raise the scanner, frame the animal, capture. The instrument cross-references eleven hundred records and returns a classification, and the specimen is lifted out of the frame in front of you. The cutout happens on your phone. Photographs of screens, prints and yesterday are refused: it has to be alive and it has to be there. When two species are genuinely close, it shows you the candidates instead of guessing. THE RECORD Every catch is its own record: your photograph, the date, the territory and a serial number that is never reissued to anyone. Log the same species twice and you hold two. Each record carries real readings — mass, velocity, threat level, DATA — and a field note about the animal you probably didn't know. Name it, transmit it, or jettison it back to the survey. THE HOLOGRAM Any record projects its specimen as a hologram, cut from the exact animal you logged and lit in its classification. Three stages: projection, field, and true colour. THE MAINFRAME A slot for every species, and a silhouette and a number in the empty ones. Nothing you haven't found will tell you its name, its rarity, or how hard to look. The Secrets don't even show a shape. CLASSIFICATION Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Secret. Built on real occurrence data from GBIF, not a wishlist. A pigeon is not a peregrine. THE SECTOR Every specimen drops a marker where you logged it, coloured by what you found. Scroll back over a summer and the map reads like a diary. THE DIRECTIVES Three fresh daily objectives, a rotating long-term set and a weekly crate for clearing ten. Commendation Points build toward Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond insignia. THE RANKING Every agent starts again on Monday. Compete on DATA in your territory, across the planet, or among the agents you know. Your own row is always pinned. THREE TRACKS. NONE BUYS ANOTHER. DATA raises your clearance, thirty-five grades from Probationary to Curator of Worlds. Commendation Points earn insignia. Survey grade counts the species you have on file, twenty-five grades from Trace to Total Census. Nothing converts. PRIVACY The camera is the only image source. Location is optional and coarse: coordinates are rounded to about a hundred metres, other agents only ever see your territory, and your exact position never leaves your phone. Sign in with Apple, nothing else. Xenolog is free. Xenolog+ is an optional subscription that removes the daily scan limit. Earth catalogue: incomplete. Go outside. Come back with something on file.
