## What is Baking Soda?

VINEGAR USERS: You can get a 50% discount by completing the Fizzy Water Bundle!

Baking Soda is a Safari extension that replaces custom video players (except the YouTube player) with a minimal HTML video tag.

Baking Soda is more basic than Vinegar. Unlike Vinegar, Baking Soda doesn't block ads or let you switch the video quality. If Baking Soda doesn't work on certain websites, you can easily disable it in the settings.

Note: The "can read and alter webpages" text in the permission section is just unfortunate wording. Baking Soda needs access to the web page to find video players and replace them. It's not doing anything creepy!

## Key features

- Replaces custom video players
- Uses minimal HTML video tag
- Safari extension
- Easily disable in settings
- Basic functionality

### 2/5 — Look elsewhere now

*2026-06-16*

Looks like this still works on some sites. It doesn’t do anything on others, but at least it’s better than breaking sites entirely like it does on ESPN.

### 4/5 — Not work for every website.

*2026-04-24*

I tried using the this extension on Safari, and it doesn’t always work as expected, especially on iPad. Some websites just won’t change video player with it and the extension does nothing at all. It seems like iPad video players have stricter rules, which makes the extension struggle or completely fail on certain sites. Overall, it was a bit disappointing for me.

### 4/5 — Bro please add subtitle support

*2026-04-16, version 1.2.0*

It's almost perfect

### 4/5 — Please update

*2026-02-19*

Needs an update

### 1/5 — Obsolete app. Think before you buy !!

*2026-02-12*

does not work on facebook. Not even maintained. Think before you buy !!

### 5/5 — Brilliant!

*2025-12-27, version 1.2.0*

Thank you :)

### 1/5 — No

*2025-10-06*

This app can see your all data and password your crypto keys but its say no data collected on app store

### 2/5 — If lots of websites are broken in Safari…

*2025-09-11, version 1.2.0*

Especially things like not being able to click on things on websites, and more complex sites just freezing or nothing interactive working well.

I love Vinegar, and it works great. For ages Safari was unstable - being new to macOS I just thought that was why no one used Safari.

One day I decided to increase the restrictions on the few extensions I had in Safari and everything started to work much better.

I did go through my other extensions (I had a Dark Theme and popular Safari Tweaker which were my main culprits (trying not to name the innocent, until proven guilty here). But as I re-enabled them in isolation, one by one, it was only Baking Soda that caused the issues.

I was shocked, but I’ve disabled it now until there is an update at some point (doesn’t seem to get many going by the version history) - and things still work okay (if a little too dark, but that’s another review for another App)….

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-07-27*

The app doesn’t work on any video I play on any website. There also doesn’t seem to be an easy way to contact the developer. His other app, Vinegar, is great and works great.

### 1/5 — Non-Functional

*2025-03-04, version 1.1.11*

It either does not activate for videos, despite permissions being given for all websites permanently, or it renders any video to a black screen without the ability to watch it.
