### 3/5 — Tuner soso

*2023-07-03*

Their are other appa that are much better tuners, apps that can actually listen to the banjo.

### 4/5 — Fret Board Position Markings

*2020-04-03*

I love this app. Position Markings or fret numbers on the side would be helpful. I’d prefer markings or side dots.

### 2/5 — Where are the fret markers?

*2018-02-28*

No fret markers on the fret board makes me think someone without banjo background wrote this. Where are the pentatonic scales? Also, it looks like all scales are single string without melodic based scales (Keith style).

### 4/5 — apps emm?

*2017-10-29, version 4.3.0*

ok i don’t know about this app but hope it is good.
but i did have “banjo basics” 2 years ago having learnt the banjo in 1 year, i left it.....opened it up today for old time sake, a brilliant app, but after update the usual thing happened......directed to another app...then you pay... guess this is business but luckily i have learnt, some apps mean well but there is always money making in the forefront. happy banjo playing

### 3/5 — Sandy River belle tuning

*2016-05-22, version 4.0.2*

Please
GEADE

### 2/5 — App Crashes after open for 6 sec.

*2015-08-27, version 4.0.2*

I paid for the all the chords version apparently before the "upgrade" that now crashes every time I try to use it.....

### 4/5 — Very helpful

*2015-04-15, version 4.0.2*

Very good app I just wish it had roll patterns.

### 5/5 — Handy app!

*2015-03-16, version 4.0.2*

This is a great app for chord reference. Good for tuning and I appreciate the lefty flip option

### 3/5 — AD's

*2015-01-04, version 4.0.1*

I would have rated this a 5 but I just paid to remove the ads. Why is the Google ad still being displayed? Please remove or refund my money and I'll give you a 5

### 5/5 — Cool

*2014-12-31, version 4.0.1*

I like this app because it really sounds like a banjo.

### 3/5 — Mr

*2014-09-22, version 4.0.1*

No provision for capo. No way to enter custom tunings. Quite a few tunings but I rarely find what I am looking for. Ok otherwise.

### 4/5 — Excellent support for Banjo players

*2014-07-21, version 4.0.1*

This app is a really useful resource for Banjo players wanting to check alternative chord positions

### 4/5 — I'm a beginner and use this app everyday.

*2014-06-07*

I just started playing the banjo 10 days ago (my first instrument to learn), and I have used this app since the first day. It does have several features that I don't understand yet, but (again) I am just starting out and haven't learned much yet. I use this app to help me tune my banjo, learn/check my chords, and I use the metronome all the time. I didn't give it give 5 stars only because I am not experienced enough to rate all the other features yet.

### 2/5 — Not for beginners

*2014-05-25, version 4.0*

If you already know your way around the banjo this app may be more useful but if you are just starting it goes way over your head from the get go. Maybe I will come back to it in a few months after learning the basics some place else.

### 5/5 — Excellent for learning chords and tuning!

*2014-05-05, version 3.2.0*

This application does everything it needs to do. It is an instructor, not a virtual banjo (you'll have to work harder than that to be a banjo virtuoso).

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Poor Design

*2024-01-13, version 4.3.0*

The app is poorly designed; you know it’s bad when it starts and welcomes with a guitar name and does not mention the banjo. The tutorial does not provide a chance to interact. The interface is too busy and the buttons are too small for an iPhone.
Avoid it, and spend the time with a YouTube instructor. You’ll get more banjo with your time.
One Star was one too many.

### 1/5 — Pop quiz: where can you find YouTube videos?

*2016-01-19, version 4.0.2*

On this app!

Why do I need to download a stupid app just to watch Youtube videos?
this is the worst waste of space on a phone. Srsly Apple, are you even reviewing this garbage anymore?

### 1/5 — Junk!

*2015-01-21, version 4.0.1*

Very hard to get around in this app. Pretty much junk

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2014-09-04, version 4.0.1*

Not accurate at all 😒

### 1/5 — Appalling

*2014-08-12, version 4.0.1*

After spending sometime with this app I am unable to work out what it is even supposed to be used for.
Learning scales and chords maybe? Then why are there no markers on the fretboard at 3rd, 5th etc frets?
When I first opened the app I was forced to make all the in app purchases. I was unable to even quit the app until I had done so.
At the moment the app is playing the scale of G major over and over non stop with no way of stopping it.
I would not even risk downloading this app and opening it. A pretty expensive rip off.

### 1/5 — Not that great

*2014-01-22, version 3.2.0*

Has no real substance

### 1/5 — Don't waste your time

*2013-06-30, version 3.2.0*

It has ads, so why should I pay to unlock other features?

### 1/5 — Useless

*2013-06-12, version 3.2.0*

Nothing like a real banjo!

### 1/5 — Sounds nothing like a banjo to me.

*2013-06-10, version 3.2.0*

It sounds NOTHING like a banjo to me. Don't bother trying to play it.

### 1/5 — Uninstalled it

*2013-03-06, version 3.2.0*

Couldn't work out how to use it so... Out you go.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Heck yeah

*2025-12-13*

Some features are behind a small pay wall, but almost everything the average player needs is available for free and at a high quality.

### 5/5 — Great for learning scales and chords

*2020-06-03, version 4.3.0*

Would like to have fingering on scales

### 5/5 — Wonderful tool

*2020-01-30*

This is a wonderful tool to assist beginners on learning chord fingering.

### 5/5 — Easy, straight Forward and comprehensive.

*2019-07-22, version 4.3.0*

Great to use when learning for the first time or refreshing on chords and scales.

### 5/5 — Really useful

*2018-11-18, version 4.3.0*

This app has been really useful to me over the years I’ve had it. I paid for the full version which shows chords for a full range of tunings and I’ve been using that feature a lot, as I play in a number of different tunings that I’m not always very familiar with.

Sure someone with a good grounding in music theory can figure the chords out themselves, but for someone like me, without that kind of training, it’s a great reference source.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2018-06-08, version 4.3.0*

This has been really helpful and fun!

### 5/5 — Huge list of tunings

*2018-03-14*

Great resource to quickly look up scales and chords for dozens of banjo tunings

### 5/5 — The best!

*2017-12-22*

I use this app almost daily. It is easy to use and very helpful.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2015-10-03, version 4.0.2*

Best way to learn and see all of the chords and scale clearly. I appreciate this app.

### 5/5 — Solid app for modes and scales

*2015-04-26*

Solid app for learning banjo as a second (or third) instrument. If you've got the fundamentals of music down this app lays out modal scales and chords very well. I'll probably buy the alternate tunings soon too.
