## What is Banjo Lessons & Learn?

Purely Banjo is designed to help you become a better banjo player. By repeatedly practising the routines and lessons included in the software, your playing technique will improve over time. The advanced visual interface adds an extra dimension to your banjo practice, so you can see and hear how the music plays. Content includes scales, arpeggios and rhythm accompaniments.  

Play along with Purely Banjo, with the help of a fretboard, animated musical score and tab notation. Live animation makes it easy to follow the music, so you can practise in a way that suits you - whatever your skill level.

See upcoming notes and hear how the piece should sound. Choose to hear synthesized music or a metronome rhythm - or a combination of both, if you prefer. This lets you engage in a listen-try approach to practice.

Purely Banjo gives structure to your practice, guiding you through sets of lessons that will help you to progress to the next level. What's more, you can keep your practice fresh by downloading content updates for a whole year.

Build your own tailor-made lesson schedules by simply using drag-and-drop to arrange the existing content into groups of your choice.

Choose a tempo to suit your individual needs for each lesson or routine.

Switch between hearing the music, the metronome or a combination of both to aid your learning.

Play along with a stand-alone metronome to provide a customised tempo.

Choose a constant tempo with adjustable accent (measure length) and visual display.

This app for banjo has got to be some kind of joke. It seems like all of the songs notes are played linearly on one or two strings and not with licks, rolls, and using correct hand shapes and string grouping patterns. It is like forcing you to use one finger and just go higher up one string to play different notes of a song, if that makes sense. Ridiculous. And there doesn’t seem to be an answer to my emails I’ve sent. I downloaded it because it looked like a good idea to see the fretboard, musical staff, and tab all lined up for each song, but it’s the equivalent of being taught typing of stories with one or two fingers. Waste of time and money.

This app has great features and find it very useful. I bought to become proficient on Jazz Tenor banjo. I already play guitar and 5-string banjo. The problem with this app is that the tab lines are displayed completely in reverse of any of the dozens of tab books I own and standard tab software like Guitar Pro and Tabledit. To get it to display properly for Tenor jazz banjo you have type in A4-D4-G3-C3 into the custom tuning every time you use it. Very annoying. I spoke with the tech support several times. The answer I received was that it was designed that way because most people expect the tab to be displayed that way. Utter nonsense. It’s a design flaw but they won’t admit it. How could most people expect their tab to be displayed opposite of what 100% of printed and digital tab is displayed. I’ve been using tab for 30+ years and never saw it displayed the way they do. Nonetheless, the arpeggio and scale exercises are very good learning tool.
