### 3/5 — Does it work for UK yet??? How can I tell?

*2026-09-07, version 10.1*

I paid for a year’s subscription and set it up to parallel run with Moneydance. I prefer the look to Banktivity and despite the annual fee (which I detest) for the software I MIGHT have made the switch, but it really didn’t work for my UK investments….. Now that 10.1 is out, should I try again? I don’t know and am not going to shell out for another years subs just in case….. So sticking with Moneydance for now. So non-US buyers beware - check whether it will work 100% for you.

### 2/5 — Good right till it wasn’t

*2026-09-07, version 10.1*

I’ve Benn using this app for a long time, back when it was called iBank and loved the app. Then it was changed to Banktivity and in the beginning the app pretty much worked the same iBank. Recently they changed the whole app and how it operates. They now use Ledgers which I have no clue what that even means. All I know is I closed the app on my computer to update to do an update and when I went to open my file there were two choices. No notation of what the last file “Ledger” was used. I clicked on the newest one, the last backed up one was two days older. And it’s taken over 45 minutes to open my file that should have just opened by clicking on the app icon. Why don’t these deciders just leave someone alone when it works? I’d say it’s totally useless now. Find something else.

### 3/5 — Works Well When It Works

*2026-08-28, version 10.0.6*

Ongoing issues with connectivity to banks continue to frustrate. The app itself is very good and does what it should but the recurring issues with (Canadian) financial institutions seem to take a long time to fix.

### 2/5 — It was good until…

*2026-07-09, version 10.0.6*

I started with Banktivity when it used to be called iBank. It was the app I needed to get me out of Windows and Quicken world. Everything has been good up until whatever recent version introduced the Ledgers “feature”. In short, it has completely blown up my workflow of using the same iBank file saved in iCloud, so I can travel and access it via laptop, or access it on my main computer at home. Not anymore. Now, once you import your old iBank file, you no longer have control of where the data is stored (apparently now it stored on the local machine somewhere in a Library folder). Sure, I could get the same functionality back for my workflow IF I subscribe to Banktivity cloud features. Sorry, but no. Enough with these subscriptions already! So now I’m looking for a replacement because this type of shakedown in the name of “we’re making it better for you” is absolute bs and I know I speak for a lot of other users when I say we are tired of being treated like ATMs. But if you only need it on a single computer and/or don’t mind paying their subscription fees, then the software is likely a better fit for you than me. There was literally nothing wrong with the software before this, and the lack of ability to turn off this “feature” tells me everything I need to know about this company now. It was fun while it lasted, but I’m moving on.

### 3/5 — Disappointing Upgrade to version 10

*2026-06-26, version 10.0.5*

Latest Update Is a Major Step Backward

I have used Banktivity since its original release in 2003, when Intuit stopped developing Quicken for the Mac. I have stayed with it for more than two decades because it was a dependable Mac financial program that gave users control over their own information.

Unfortunately, the latest Banktivity 10 update feels like a major step backward.

One of the worst changes is the way data is now stored. Instead of being able to keep a clear, accessible document that I can place wherever I choose and back up easily, the data is now buried deep inside the user’s Library folder. Most ordinary users will have difficulty even finding it, never mind making an independent backup or restoring it when something goes wrong. Financial records should never be hidden away in an obscure location that makes users dependent on the application to access and protect their own data.

The update also removed the ability to password-protect or hide financial data. That makes little sense. Bank and credit-card records are among the most private documents people have, and removing an important privacy feature is not progress.

More troubling, there appear to be serious bugs. In my case, the update deleted reconciled Apple Card bank statements. Fortunately the transactions were not deleted and I was able to spend a few hours going back and reconciling all the statements for the Apple Card account. Reconciled records are supposed to be the reliable history of transactions that have already been reviewed and confirmed. Losing them damages trust in the program and creates real concern about what else may have been altered or lost. I am the type of person that if my bank statement doesn't reconcile to the penny, I need to find out why.

After more than 20 years as a customer, I expected Banktivity to become more secure, transparent and dependable. Instead, this update reduces user control, weakens privacy, and has introduced bugs affecting important financial records among other annoying problems.

The developers need to restore easy user-controlled backups, bring back password protection, and urgently correct the data loss problems before asking longtime customers to trust this version.

### 5/5 — Great application

*2026-06-24, version 10.0.5*

I’ve been using Banktivity for a decade now. Before then, I used Microsoft Money (yes, a long time ago…), then Quicken, then Moneydance. For my purposes (expense tracking, budgeting, and reports), it ticks all my boxes. I’ve recently been tracking my investments (after setting up a self managed superannuation fund) and it does this well.
I’ve had the occasional need to contact support, and they have always been responsive and helpful. I’ve not had any significant trouble with connecting to financial institutions in Australia, or with syncing. The help pages on their website can usually answer my queries easily.

### 1/5 — Crashed multiple times

*2026-06-23, version 10.0.5*

In the short few min of having this app. It crashed 4 times dropping everything I just did.

### 1/5 — v10 ‘organizer’ pop up is extremely frustrating

*2026-06-14, version 10.0.4*

It feels like Banktivity is now aiming itself at small businesses with this ‘organizer’ that pops-up every time to run the app and has zero value for individuals. Every browser prevents pop-ups so why did the geniuses at Banktivity think we’d want one? Why can’t we just select it from the menu if we want it?

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-06-12, version 10.0.4*

Love the Mac version of Banktivity. The iOS Versions are catching up, but the Mac version is the best in its class

### 2/5 — Slow Sync

*2026-06-09, version 10.0.4*

Sync is painfully slow and inconsistent. Looking for an alternative.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Removed ability to plan

*2026-09-03, version 10.1*

I am sick of Banktivity making changes that negatively affect workflow…they claim it’s to bring better parity between Mac & IOS but it’s horse manure.

Why would you remove the ability to summarize your entire net worth and see the total of today’s balance vs future balance…

I went through the long process of manually entering future deposits so I could plan and now they only show net worth as the sum of all deposits (cleared and uncleared)…

I have Zero ability to see the summary of current net worth which I use to track my investments…

Banktivity…do better.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-08-22, version 10.0.6*

I purchased a subscription and Banktivity is still telling me that I need to purchase another one or create a new ID. I tried logging into the ID that I had the last time I used Banktivity and even after resetting the password I can’t get into the app. Support is lacking and that’s being kind. I don’t remember why I stopped using it before, but I know why I want a refund and won’t be using it now. Don’t waste your time or your money on this garbage!

### 1/5 — Keeps entering bogus transactions

*2026-08-17, version 10.0.6*

I keep finding bogus transactions against my Apple Card every time I manage to get it to update. I keep deleting them and they keep coming back. $0 iTunes Store transactions, duplicates of other cleared transactions. I can’t merge the duplicates and the ones I delete just keep coming back. Transactions all the way back to 2019!

Almost seems silly in light of that complaint that my other complaint is that I want one thing from the iPhone client—Apple Card transactions and it tries to do everything else first. I need a button to update this one account that updates the one account! Really regretting not using one of the other apps that can download Apple Card transactions at this point. This one just sucks.

### 1/5 — Keeps entering bogus transactions

*2026-08-10, version 10.0.6*

### 1/5 — Was great until Version 10 - Heads Should Roll over this one!

*2026-08-06, version 10.0.6*

I have been a user since the iBank days but the only reason I’m still a user at this point is because I haven’t yet found a readily suitable replacement. This confounded “Organizer” and “Ledgers” nonsense has mucked up what used to be a reliable and stable software. When I try to quit the application, it’s 50/50 whether it will actually quit, or whether I’m going to have to Force Quit; and when I start it up, it’s 50/50 whether I’m going to just get into my file or have to look at an “organizer” list and wonder whether my most recent version is still a good one (so far, admittedly, it always has been). Previous releases had a nice, easily found and determined .bank file; the new structure is just deliberately scattered helter-skelter Lord only knows where in the bowels of the Mac library. This is outrageous and whoever had the nerve to take such a nice simple workable software like release 9 and inflict this Release 10 abomination on IGG’s subscribers has no business working in software development.

### 1/5 — Scheduled transactions missing

*2026-07-30, version 10.0.6*

My scheduled transactions are no longer there. Most of them disappeared for whatever reason after this upgrade. And yeah, I share the frustration about not being able to use it on two different computers like I used to. I’m so annoyed about scheduled transactions

### 1/5 — frustrating architectural flaw

*2026-07-15, version 10.0.6*

Beside the bank transactions downloads that always caused serious import issues at least once a year (duplicated entries and random categorizations),

with the new update you can back up your files, you just won’t ever be able to retrieve them: Files are stored in a file system with no names or indications of what they are or used to be, you’re not allowed to open a file without importing it into the Organizer, and when you do that it triggers a warning that if the file was previously imported opening it could cause duplicated entries. So what happens if you need to go back a week for example?

Been a Loyal customer since 2013 and the is my good bye forever Banktivity! too much is too much.

### 1/5 — Can't get started

*2026-07-12, version 10.0.6*

I downloaded this app and it doesn't seem to be accessible with voiceover. I cannot enter my info to even get started

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing after closing it

*2026-06-28, version 10.0.5*

Since the last version update it keeps crashing after closing the app, and the next time I open it it shows the organiser instead of opening the actual document.

### 1/5 — v10 ‘organizer’ pop up is extremely frustrating

*2026-06-28, version 10.0.5*

It feels like Banktivity is now aiming itself at small businesses with this ‘organizer’ that pops-up every time to run the app and has zero value for individuals. Update: Thanks for your reply. However the problem still exists. That and some banks no longer connect means Money.Wiz is looking really good about now.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent financial software

*2026-09-03, version 10.1*

Keeping on top of your spending, balances, investments, pensions etc has never been easier. Filing tax returns is so much easier (although I hope that one day a UK specific tax version will be released.

### 5/5 — Really easy to use,

*2026-08-21, version 10.0.6*

If you want to use Banktivity fully get the Mac software as well, Been using this software for 15 years and I could not live without it, gives you a total clear picture of your net worth. Makes you feel in control. Connects to Barclays UK and downloads all your transactions including date, amount, and where you spent the money all I have to do is check the category for each transaction, a small thing to do. Then set up a report to see totals of each category, between any dates you choose. Once you get the hang of Banktivity you won’t use any other software for Finance. The iPhone and iPad software, compliments the fully functional Mac software. Get it and give it time when learning how to use it.

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-08-17, version 10.0.6*

I love this software, you can see at a glance your accounts totalled from all the different banks, also great for totalling up for tax at the end of the year.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Software

*2026-08-12, version 10.0.6*

It syncs seamlessly with iPhone and iPad

### 5/5 — Best APP on MAC

*2026-08-09, version 10.0.6*

For many years, I've been using this app for envelope budgeting, and on Mac is just the best. Great support, great quality. I never was let down in the last eight years that I've been a customer. Great support, great app, reliable.

### 5/5 — A solid, reliable partner in my business and in my home finances

*2026-08-04, version 10.0.6*

I have been using Banktivity for over a decade and I am so grateful that it has been such a reliable tool. It really is something that I count on, and I love the iPhone/iPad versions that meet me wherever I find myself ready to get some work done.

### 5/5 — Over 10 Years of Banktivity

*2026-08-04, version 10.0.6*

Have enjoyed the product so much, so easy to use with the iPhone App as well when on the go to keep track of expenses no matter where I am.
I switched due to a huge blunder by Quicken that destroyed all of my data. Simply tried to open the file and all my accounts were gone with no means of recovery; have I mentioned I have not had a single issue with Banktivity? Love the product, keep up the good work and keeping your customers happy with a product that just works like it is supposed to.

### 5/5 — Great Program for Managing finances

*2026-07-27, version 10.0.6*

I’ve been using Banktivity for 2 1/2 years and I love it. It’s been the best financial management program I’ve used for my MAC in over 20 years of being a MAC user.

Best of all their tech support is outstanding with online chat support during regular nosiness hours I’ve never not been able to resolve an issue or at least have it addressed in a reasonable amount of time.

Very responsive company.

### 5/5 — Just keeps getting better.

*2026-07-06, version 10.0.5*

After retiring in 2018, I was desperate to replace Quicken with something built for MacOS and iOS. Banktivity had recently made major upgrades from its previous iteration called iBank. From what I had read it offered just what I wanted. A cleaner interface, more stability, and amazing customer support. Since then, I have never looked back. Banktivity is beautifully designed for ease of use, for tracking income and expenditures, preparing reports (perfect for simplifying taxes), and for making and living within a budget. Other than my beautiful wife of 53 years, Banktivity is the one thing I know I can will always be able to count on.

### 5/5 — Best I’ve found

*2026-07-03, version 10.0.5*

After about ten years using the Better-known (fairly ubiquitous) product for tracking our finances, I switched about five years ago to Banktivity — and never looked back! Straightforward, very intuitive, easy to use app. I’ve used it for business (now retired) as well as for personal financial management. Easy to learn; simple to use; and the updates generally offer incremental improvements of function and utility. I did quite a bit of research before selecting Banktivity. Now, I feel I can pat myself on the back for having made a great choice. I highly recommend!
