## What is Bao?

Your calorie app has never seen half the food you eat.

Bao has. Pizza or pad thai, a burrito or a bowl of beef noodle soup — it counts both with the same accuracy, including the dishes a generic database can't even name. Free to use, with Pro for unlimited scans.

ASIAN AND WESTERN FOOD, ONE APP
Burgers, pasta, salads, sandwiches, steak — all the everyday food you'd expect. Then the part no other tracker gets right: dim sum, ramen, bento, boba, pho, curry, and Taiwanese street food. 13+ cuisines in one place, so you're not switching apps the moment dinner gets interesting.

SCAN ANY MENU, IN ANY LANGUAGE
Point your camera at a menu — Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, whatever the local language happens to be — and Bao reads it, translates it into yours, and estimates calories and macros for every dish. You decide what to order before you order it, instead of guessing afterward. Travel makes it obvious: a menu in Tokyo, Bangkok or Taipei stops being a guessing game.

SNAP YOUR MEAL
One photo. Bao names every dish on the plate with calories, protein, carbs, and fat — in English, Chinese, and the food's original language. A chicken caesar or a table of small shared plates, it reads both, and it knows beef noodle soup from pho.

ALLERGIES AND HEALTH CONDITIONS
Set yours once — nuts, shellfish, sesame, gluten, dairy, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, acid reflux, kidney, IBS, pregnancy — and Bao flags dishes that clash, on photo scans, menu scans, barcodes, and typed meals. It matches ingredients in English and Chinese, which matters most when you can't read the menu and have no idea what's in the sauce.

YOUR AI COACH, 24/7
A nutrition coach and a fitness coach in the same conversation, awake whenever you are.
- Knows your goal, your diet, your health conditions, and everything you've logged today, so you're never re-explaining yourself
- Remembers the obstacle you named at signup — busy schedule, late-night cravings, eating out constantly, portion guesswork — and works around it instead of ignoring it
- Real workouts, not "exercise more": rep counts, durations, step targets, 10-minute sessions when you're slammed, progressive overload when you're not
- Connects the two — protein timing around lifting, what to eat on a heavy training day
- Talks about mood, stress, sleep and a rough day at work, because those decide what you eat far more often than willpower does
- Never uses diet-culture language. No "you earned it," no "cheat meal," no "guilt-free," no asking whether you're really hungry. Those words are banned in Bao's instructions, not merely discouraged.

MORE WAYS TO LOG
- Barcode scanner for packaged food
- Describe a meal in plain words and Bao does the math
- Full app in English and Traditional Chinese

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-17

Allergy and health warnings now show up everywhere.

• Flag an ingredient once — nuts, shellfish, gluten — and Bao warns you on photo scans, menu scans, barcodes, typed meals, and chat. Works whether you use Bao in English or Chinese.
• Warnings now come in two levels, so a real safety risk looks different from a "this works against your goal" note.
• Added kidney conditions and IBS to what Bao watches for.
• Saved foods re-check against your profile, so updating your allergies also updates meals you logged earlier.

Also fixed: coach replies that sometimes didn't appear in chat, fiber and sodium not coming off your daily totals when you delete a meal, and a Family Sharing purchase reading "failed" when it was actually just waiting for approval.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-10

Email sign-up no longer asks you to pay twice in one sitting — that's fixed to a single ask, same as every other sign-in method.

Clearer messaging when you already have an account, so you know to sign in instead of guessing.

Bug fixes and polish.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-06

Bug fixes and improvements:
- Fixed text sizing on onboarding screens so larger accessibility text settings display correctly
- Fixed a food safety alert that could incorrectly flag non-dairy milk alternatives (soy, oat, coconut) as dairy
- Clearer, friendlier error messages when the app loses its connection

### 1.0 — 2026-07-28

No release notes.
