## What is Barite?

Barite is a camera that only shoots black and white.

Not a filter laid over a colour photo. Barite develops the sensor's raw frame itself, on the GPU, and the black-and-white render is the photograph — the one you framed, and the one that lands on your phone.

THE CAMERA

• RAW, Apple ProRAW and HEIC, on every lens your iPhone has: ultra-wide, wide, telephoto, the native sensor crops, the front camera, and a forced macro mode that focuses close.
• A darkroom built for monochrome, not borrowed from colour: a channel mixer that reads the colour before discarding it, a highlight shoulder that holds a bright sky together, then contrast, gamma, microcontrast and grain.
• Three complete looks — Barite Vibe, Drama Sky, Calm Portrait — on an invisible strip you swipe without leaving the frame. Each is a whole render, not an intensity slider.
• The preview is the photograph. It runs live through the same shaders the capture uses, so what you saw is what you get.
• Straightens as you shoot. Gyro-driven perspective and horizon correction, applied to the preview and the photo alike, so buildings stand up and the sea is level.
• A live luminance histogram, a rule-of-thirds grid, and exposure compensation on a strip you drag anywhere along the row — no thumb to hunt for.

THE DARKROOM

• Every original is kept. A render can fail; a photograph does not get lost.
• Re-develop any shot from its negative: tone curve by region, black and white points, six classic filters, grain, microcontrast.
• An eight-band per-hue mixer — red through magenta — for the colour the frame no longer shows.
• Dodge and burn a face separately from its background, through a mask the camera worked out at capture.
• Press the picture to see it as shot, release to see your edit.
• The gallery is a contact sheet: every frame at its own proportions, with Recently Deleted underneath it.

Barite has no account, no subscription, no advertising and no analytics. It never sends your photographs anywhere — they stay on your phone, in your library and in the app's own folder, which you can open in Files.
