## What is BarKeep?

Know what's on your bar cart, and what you can make with it tonight.

BarKeep is a home bar inventory that answers one question well: given the bottles you actually own, what can you pour right now?

Add bottles by photographing the label, scanning the barcode, or typing. BarKeep tracks what's open, what's running low, and what's empty — then filters 300 built-in recipes down to the ones you can make tonight, and shows what you're one bottle away from.

NOT THE BIGGEST RECIPE BOOK — THE ONE THAT WORKS
Every recipe is curated and checked against the shelf it's meant to be made from, so "makeable tonight" means you can actually pour it — not that an ingredient name happened to match. All 300 have a written note, a glass, and ingredients that recognize the bottles you already own, by the names they're actually sold under.

FREE, AND STAYING FREE • Unlimited bottle inventory with photos, sizes, and how much is left • 300 recipes — classics, modern classics, tiki and highballs — 40 of them zero-proof • Makeable Tonight — recipes filtered to what's in stock, not what you wish you had • Identify a bottle from a photo — with Apple Intelligence, or with your own Claude API key • Low stock tracking, with reminders before you run out • Browse by ingredient, glassware, mood, or dietary filter • Ask the Barkeep — questions about your own shelf, answered from your own inventory

ZERO-PROOF, NOT AN AFTERTHOUGHT 40 of the 300 recipes contain no alcohol at all — a Nogroni, a Virgin Paloma, a Ginger Switchel, a proper Chocolate Egg Cream. They live in the same book as everything else and run through the same "what can I make tonight" filter, so a shelf with no spirits on it still works.

BARKEEP PRO • Advanced Stats — spend, most-used spirits, and pour history • Export — your inventory and recipe book as a file you keep • Home Screen Widgets — low stock and makeable-now at a glance • Unlimited recipe imports — from a URL, pasted text, or TheCocktailDB (five are free) • Written tasting notes for the recipes you import; every built-in recipe already has one

Pro is $2.99/month or $19.99/year in the U.S., with a one-week free trial on the yearly plan; prices vary by region. Everything above it stays free forever — no ads, no account, no sign-up.

PRIVACY Your inventory lives on your device. There's no account to create and nothing to log into. To identify a bottle from a photo, BarKeep uses Apple's Private Cloud Compute when it's available, and otherwise does it entirely on your iPhone — when you're offline, for example. Apple designed Private Cloud Compute not to keep your photo and so that Apple can't access it, and the photo is never sent to us. The one feature that uses a server of ours — a written tasting note for a recipe you import — sends only the ingredient list, never the recipe name, and nothing about you or your bar.

BarKeep is for adults of legal drinking age. Please drink responsibly.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-10-07

Ready for iPhone Duo.

• Unfold your iPhone Duo and BarKeep spreads out across the big screen, then folds back neatly when you close it. Whatever you were doing stays put: a half-added bottle, an open recipe, a conversation.

• Adding a bottle without a connection is much quicker. BarKeep now goes straight to the model on your iPhone instead of waiting for the network first.

• If you use your own Claude key: Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 replace Opus 5 and Sonnet 5. Sonnet 5.5 reads labels as well as Opus for less. Your choice carries over to the newer version automatically.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-06

Better bottle recognition.

• When you photograph a label, BarKeep now uses Apple's Private Cloud Compute whenever it can. On 36 real bottle labels, it identified nearly twice as many correctly as before.

• No connection? The model on your iPhone takes over automatically, so adding a bottle still works on a plane.

• The first scan is quicker — BarKeep gets ready while you're looking at your shelf.

• If a scan runs long, it tells you it's still working and offers to let you type the details in instead.

Apple designed Private Cloud Compute not to keep your photo, and the photo is never sent to us.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-17

Your recipe book nearly doubled.

• 300 recipes, up from 170. New stirred classics like the Old Pal and Little Italy, modern favourites like the Gin Basil Smash and Final Ward, tiki drinks, highballs, spritzes, and hot drinks for colder nights — each with its own written tasting note.

• 40 zero-proof drinks, including alcohol-free versions of the Gimlet, Whiskey Sour and Old Fashioned.

• Start over when you need to. Settings now has Reset Inventory, which clears every bottle and its photo in one go. Your recipes stay put.

• Smaller fixes, including a drink with milk that was wrongly listed as vegan.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-17

Everything in BarKeep is drawn rather than photographed, and this update redraws most of it.

• See what's left at a glance. A bottle's fill level now sits inside the bottle instead of washing across the card, and every card carries a level gauge — photographed or drawn.

• A bottle you've finished says EMPTY, not LOW.

• Cocktails are drawn. Each recipe now shows the glass it's served in, tinted by what's actually in it — so a Negroni and a Daiquiri no longer look alike while you're scrolling. It works for recipes you import, too.

• Every glass is drawn as itself. A shot glass and a rocks glass used to be the same picture, as did all four mugs. Twenty-one glass types, twenty-one shapes.

• Bottles are shaped like their real bottles. Redrawn from photographs of the real thing, so bitters, wine, whiskey and liqueur bottles are each recognisable on the shelf.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-16

You can now rate BarKeep from Settings, and the app will occasionally ask once it has actually been useful to you.

Small fixes behind the scenes.
