### 2/5 — Order History page is useless

*2026-08-29, version 255.1*

PLEASE bring back the covers and release/shipping dates on the orders page. You can’t even click on the books you’ve ordered to open their description page anymore

### 2/5 — Wishlist doesn’t display

*2026-08-28, version 255.1*

You can add items to your wishlist but the wishlist doesn’t display. The only way to see it is on the web.

### 1/5 — Update is horrible

*2026-08-25, version 255.1*

I’m not sure what they did to update their app, but it is horrible now and not user friendly.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-08-25, version 255.1*

Never lets me click the checkout button. I have to log into to main website instead to buy my item. It’s very glitchy

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2026-08-25, version 255.1*

The app has never been the most user-friendly. It's frustrating how behind the times B&N is with connecting in-store transactions and online transactions in the app. But now I can't even get the app to load. It just sits on the blue screen. When it does work, it's slow and clunky. Hopefully one day B&N will feel like it's in the 21st century.

### 1/5 — Performance Issues Like Crazy

*2026-08-23, version 255.1*

Where to start. B&N stops you from ordering if you use a VPN. So I’m already hosed because my apartment complex uses a third party ISP. So I have to use the app disconnected from everything WiFi wise to order. But the search function also is awful. Especially for manga when you have to look for A single volume to then go to author or if you’re lucky part of series to see the rest. I’m not sure what the search algorithm looks like on the backend, but reminds me of the work my interns would’ve done with it being suboptimal. And then the app crashing like crazy constantly? Looks like poor QA and UX teams are either not there, and they’re getting the EA treatment of just having a single engineer tackle all of the issues.

### 1/5 — This app sucks

*2026-08-22, version 255.1*

This app is so frustrating, it absolutely sucks. Nothing works, ever. Constant glitching. Navigation links don’t take you where you want to go. Can’t get to my cart to order books. It’s beyond annoying. You’d think for a company this size they’d have a better functioning app than this. But the fact that they’ve never had even a decent functioning app tells me this company simply does not care.

### 1/5 — Annoying

*2026-08-21, version 255.1*

Terrible app is way to glitchy

### 2/5 — Constant Crashes

*2026-08-20, version 255.1*

After being down for over a month for maintenance and updates one would think that the app would be more convenient. Instead, it crashes while performing even the simplest of tasks, such as searching for a title or adding a book to cart. It’s overall incredibly frustrating to use and interact with. Furthermore, there are no longer in app recommendations based on either your past purchases or underneath books you are browsing. Somehow it’s significantly worse than it was earlier this year

### 1/5 — Fix your app

*2026-08-20, version 255.1*

Everytime you use the app or search anything it crashes. I have updated and everything and this continues to happen.

### 1/5 — Completely unusable

*2026-08-20, version 255.1*

There is no navigation within the app, and it loads random pages outside of your control. You can’t look at the details of any item because it just reloads the search page. You can’t add anything to your cart, and if you look at your (empty) cart or a wishlist, you’re locked on that page until you restart the app enough times or reinstall. It’s completely unusable.

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2026-08-19, version 255.1*

The app is pretty good except for the order history. If you have a problem with tracking your order just go to the website, sign in, then just check your order from there. I’d honestly recommend just to use the website instead of the app until it’s updated

### 1/5 — holy buggy.

*2026-08-19, version 255.1*

i can't even view a product after i search. i click on it and it takes me back to the search results. FIX YOUR STUPID APP BRUH!!

### 1/5 — If I could rate it zero stars I would

*2026-08-19, version 255.1*

The app is awful. It’s impossible to use, if you look anything up it just immediately jumps back to the previous search, I can’t add anything to cart. You think for a bunch of smart people that read books they would know how to make an app.

### 1/5 — Can’t checkout

*2026-08-18, version 255.1*

Has anyone else been having trouble adding items to cart? Sometimes the app won’t let me add anything to cart, and when I do add items to cart, I can’t check out. All I get is “Please wait, calculating shipping” and then it stays like that. Nothing even closing the app helps let alone uninstalling it and installing again. This version of the app is worse than the last one

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-08-18, version 255.1*

So many bugs with the app. Certain features do not work. For example, I have 27 items in my wishlist but only 3 items show up. Also, you cannot track packages. When you hit the tracking button, it does nothing. I tried to add a preorder Blu-ray and no matter how many times I hit the preorder button it doesn’t add it to my cart.

### 2/5 — Not usable

*2026-08-18, version 255.1*

I cant even successfully order through the app now. Each time I’ve tried recently it gets stuck saying it’s “updating the shipping method.” Have had to purchase through the website instead.

### 2/5 — Can’t order through the app anymore?

*2026-08-18, version 255.1*

Every time I try to preorder books, or even just order already released copies, I get stuck with the ‘please wait — updating shipping for your cart’ message and it would appear that my stamps are also incorrect on the app.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-08-18, version 255.1*

I logged into my membership account and it's effectively broken the entire app (before I logged in I had no issue adding things to my cart or looking at different books) Now? I can't load anything, when I do finally get something to load it only loads half the page, and trying to click on an item is nightmare fuel. It just refreshes me to whatever page I was on before. Barnes, whatever shortcut AI garbage you must have tried to pull to cut costs for this current version is a complete disgrace. Bring in the app support team asap to fix this broken mess.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Buggy trash

*2026-08-29, version 255.1*

Doesn’t work 98% of the time. The app pulls up but it’s just white pages.

### 1/5 — Terrible…

*2026-08-28, version 255.1*

So let me get this straight. You took an app that while not great, worked more often than not. Then paid people to make an app that is completely unusable. That’s crazy work. I truly wish that I was being hyperbolic here when I say the wishlists will not load, order history is inconsistent at best, and if you cant scroll through your inventory and look at any thing without being returned to the top of the list when you go back. Do better Barnes & Noble.

### 1/5 — Horrible slow, unusable

*2026-08-28, version 255.1*

This app is borderline unusable. It was bad before but after the redesign it is nightmarishly slow and makes my phone start running hot. There’s no reason what’s basically a webpage should cause this in an app. Developers, please just rebuild this from scratch.

### 1/5 — Wouldn’t recommend

*2026-08-27, version 255.1*

So I ordered some books a while back. And I figured that it would take some time to ship because I ordered online right? But it’s been like almost a MONTH and I still have not gotten my books. Mind you, I spent a fairly good amount of money. I also can’t track the process at all. The app is extremely laggy and even right now I can’t sign into it. Don’t use this app and don’t even use the website. It’s better to just go in person or find another bookstore entirely 😭

### 1/5 — 2026 app update is AWFUL

*2026-08-27, version 255.1*

Please fix the order history section, I shouldn’t have to use the site when it used to work JUST FINE on the app.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-08-26, version 255.1*

So many bugs with the app. Certain features do not work. For example, I have 27 items in my wishlist but only 3 items show up. Also, you cannot track packages. When you hit the tracking button, it does nothing. I tried to add a preorder Blu-ray and no matter how many times I hit the preorder button it doesn’t add it to my cart. The app hasn’t been updated in over two months. Incredible.

### 1/5 — Awful! Can’t search audiobooks

*2026-08-26, version 255.1*

You can get a LONG list of audiobooks, but you can’t search for any specific book or author. The built in search feature will let you search for a printed book. But you can’t search for audio books. If you look at your library, it takes you another app… the B&N Nook app, which most of the time is unresponsive. Pretty pathetic.
Update: To the developer’s response… I *have* the Nook app - that’s the other app that opens, as I said in my original review. It’s clunky and unresponsive. Overall, the B&N ecosystem is a poorly designed, badly implemented mess.

### 1/5 — Horrible App

*2026-08-26, version 255.1*

This is honestly one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Their website is no better. Barnes and Noble: Fire your developers and hire people that know what they are doing.

### 1/5 — Painful after new update

*2026-08-26, version 255.1*

It is physically painful to see how bad this app functions after the latest charges. I didn’t actually think it could get worse but somehow they managed it, lol. I’ve tried to check my cart out all day to no avail. It’s like they purposefully tried to make it as hard as possible to give them your money. I’m guessing they are losing out on tons of sales right now. Wow it’s so awful.

### 1/5 — I didn’t think they could make the app worse

*2026-08-25, version 255.1*

I love how they redid the entire app and website and I hate it even more than I did before.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Shipping Info Confusion

*2026-08-28, version 255.1*

Love B&N! I’ve even enjoyed the cozy booky feeling the app somehow manages to deliver-however the past two weeks I have been trying to place an order and the notification before checkout saying “please wait-updating shipping” seems to remain active and this check-out can’t be clicked. I am curious if this is a bug issue(?)

### 5/5 — A Much-Needed Upgrade!

*2026-08-13, version 255.1*

The Barnes & Noble app has come a long way and is now much more modern, seamless, and intuitive to use. For years, the app felt like it was in need of a refresh, so it’s great to see how polished and user-friendly the experience has become.

The newer membership options have also been a strong addition. They make shopping through Barnes & Noble online more appealing while still helping generate interest in physical books and bookstores, which is encouraging to see.

Of course, the app isn’t 100% perfect (no app really is) but the improvements made so far are a huge step in the right direction. I’m hopeful that any remaining kinks will continue to be worked out over time.

Overall, I’m very pleased with where the app is now. It feels like a significant improvement over the experience of years past, and I’m interested to see how Barnes & Noble continues to develop and improve it moving forward.

### 5/5 — Finally updated the app

*2026-06-21, version 255.1*

Since the update the app has been sooo responsive!!!!

### 5/5 — New App = 1000 times better

*2026-06-20, version 255.1*

They recently updated the app and holy cow is it better. The old app was essentially unusable, which is why the rating for this app is so low. But it looks like they completely revamped the app and WOW is it better. Fast, intuitive, and most importantly, functional!

### 5/5 — This app is awesome

*2026-06-18, version 255.1*

Not only dose it give coupons it can do online shopping I love this

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-06-17, version 255.1*

I’ve always loved having the app on my phone, there has been many times I actually prefer the app over the website especially on the go! Never had any issues with the app!

### 5/5 — App works again!

*2026-06-15, version 255.1*

Thanks for bringing the app back. Love it.

### 5/5 — Much Improved

*2026-06-15, version 255.1*

While the previous version of the app wasn’t quite as bad for me as it was for others, it was undeniably show. The newest update has been much snappier, and matches the design of the new website. So far, so good.

### 5/5 — Barnes a noble

*2026-06-12, version 255.1*

Cliche needs to be fixed more

### 5/5 — Common Sense Isn’t Common

*2026-06-03*

It literally says on the website which they updated as well the app is undergoing an update.. it’s right on the main page and you literally get an email for any payment issues that directs you to the website. I swear people complain about anything. “I couldn’t pay for my books or I can’t order books” helloooo use the freakin website it’s not rocket science. God forbid they try to improve the app that they haven’t updated in half a year. Now we see why they don’t because folks get their panties in a bunch. 🙄
