Message notifications are practically nonexistent, and the app overall feels underdeveloped, with bugs that can be frustrating to users. I really love the concept, though, and I hope to increase my rating in the future as the app improves. It has the potential to be a great way to build a strong community. ### 1/5 — App Nutzlos ohne Zahlung *2026-07-02* Neuerdings braucht man Ruf um die App voll nutzen zu können. Und die benötigte letzte Stufe bekommt man nur gegen Bezahlung. Man wird ohne diese nicht mal angezeigt. Das bedeutet also man erscheint nicht in der Suche und ist somit für alle unsichtbar. Wer denkt sich denn so einen Mist aus? Man kann sämtliche basics nicht nutzen die vorher problemlos nutzbar waren. Und das nennen die "Support".... Leute Support ist freiwillig und keine Zwangszahlung damit man die app benutzen darf. Da eine Kontaktaufnahme und Posts in Gruppen nun unmöglich sind wars das für mich mit Barq. Da ist Netflix billiger! The app allows me to tap and get to that point but other than that nothing happens beyond that so it’s frustrating to create an account that you can’t express yourself…. ### 1/5 — Reputation levels prevent you from doing anything without paying. *2026-06-23* Worked fine for a bit, then suddenly you need to have reputation level 5 to do anything more than like posts, comments, and profiles. You can’t start conversations, you can’t participate in groups, and your profile isn’t shown to anyone without reputation level 5. The only way it tells me it’s possible at all to get reputation level 5 is to be a paid supporter. So basically the entire usability of the app is paywalled now ### 1/5 — Verification Problems *2026-06-20, version 2.14.0* I tried to verify my email, but the verify button and the copied link both just showed a weird error. and there was no other option to verify my acc. So couldn’t even use the app. ### 1/5 — I can’t sign up. *2026-06-15, version 2.14.0* I keep trying to send the code to my email and it doesn’t send it to that ### 3/5 — Can’t do much without subscription *2026-06-11, version 2.14.0* Used to be able to post and interact with others, now that requires a reputation level 5 which seems to only be attainable with “boosters” aka a subscription plan. Unless there’s something else I’m misunderstanding ### 1/5 — Can’t even log in *2026-06-10, version 2.14.0* When I try to log in I get Error Exception: Failed to request code. I have restarted my phone and deleted and reinstalled the app. I even tried to sign up again but it tells me the email is already in use. ### 1/5 — Terrible security *2026-06-10* I had not realized how bad this app is with security. The only social media I linked was discord and within the month I was on there half a dozen accounts friended me and every single one was trying to solicit art commissions unprompted and in totally broken English most of the time. Nobody should be comfortable being forced to share so much personal information to make their account work when at any moment there could be another data breach. Not worth it even if you’re as lonely as I am. Tried multiple times. Low quality. *2026-05-13, version 2.13.0* Doesn’t show other profiles and when I click my own it says “account not found”. ### 4/5 — No notifications *2026-05-12* Great app, does exactly what’s advertised- except for one thing. Zero notifications. You can have all the notification setting enabled on both your device and the app itself, and you don’t even see a banner or pop-up. The majority of people move off-app for communication because of this, making the chat feature almost useless. I’ve redownloaded this app multiple times within the past 6 months or and it’s still like this. I’ve had plenty of time to try everything on my end, so I’m confident it’s a bug of some sort. It’s gotten pretty frustrating, I’ll be talking to someone and they’ll respond 2 weeks later because they never got a notification. Please fix! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Sussy *2026-08-26* BARQ wrote a statement defending babyfurs on X. I thought it would be more like the Nextdoor app but for furries … instead it just comes off as more of a dating/hookup app because you can display your sexuality and kinks and filter by gender and sexuality when looking for other furries near you. Babyfurs and other questionable kinks can exist there but the. other groups that maybe hold to conservative political views get targeted… I feel like one is much worse than the other but that’s just my opinion cause I no longer want anything to do with this app. ### 1/5 — Account banned for helping someone set up theirs *2026-08-24* Very disappointing experience with BARQ. I had an existing account and simply helped my girlfriend set up her own account. Her accounts were immediately banned after setup, and somehow my account ended up banned as well. I spent several days going back and forth with support trying to get my account restored. I was eventually told that my account cannot be unbanned until all three of her banned accounts are gone, and they asked whether I have access to the email addresses associated with them. I don’t. I understand having systems in place to prevent abuse, but legitimate users shouldn’t lose their accounts because they helped someone else with setup and then be given a resolution they can’t reasonably complete. After this experience, I’ve deleted BARQ and won’t be using it anymore. ### 1/5 — Privacy *2026-08-06, version 2.14.1* I don’t often write reviews, however, I e been with this app since day 1, Howlr before it, as others have mentioned, it’s a buggy mess, DMs are so unreliable literally everyone just recommends using telegram, been like that since launch. The app also enables bad individuals who scam and lie, and won’t do anything to their accounts, even if that person you trusted into your home takes photos and posts them on the app without permission, they will not remove the image despite you being the owner. I’ve literally had images removed with ease on twitter / X even from Hollywood actors who used my content without permission. But these guys, nope, so, went over their heads and reported all this to Apple themselves. When I pressed verify it said error. So I went back to the app and set up my profile introducing myself. Next step, I went to profile to see who’s in my area. I hart their profile and tried to message them. The message has an X on it saying “Reputation too low.” It’s saying I need to be in level 2 or higher to perform this action.
