## What is Bartleby?

Bartleby is a book formatting app for writers to publish their own books. Write your book using your favorite app, import the book into Bartleby, and let Bartleby handle the formatting details.

Do you use Scrivener? If you do, you can quickly publish books by compiling your project to MutliMarkdown and importing it into Bartleby. For most books that’s 99 percent of the work. Click the Publish button, and Bartleby gives you a professional looking EPUB book you can sell at Amazon and other online book stores.

If you don’t use Scrivener, you can copy your book text into Bartleby and mark the parts of the book that aren't body text, such as chapter titles, section headings, and italicized text. For a novel the main work you have to do is tag chapter titles. Bartleby has a menu to tag parts of your text, but you can also use Markdown formatting.

According to the software, the user is to compile to MMD in Scrivener. I tried that. Numerous times. Since the dev didn’t specify whether it’s basic MMD, or MMD/Latex or MMD/OpenOffice or the other options Scrivener suggests, I decided to try them all after Bartleby refused to see the file with .md suffix. MMD/Latex was ignored. Same for MMD/OpenOffice. Strike Three! To the trash bin.
