Guided by an AI search for what could be wrong I tried everything suggested and nothing solved the problem. My firmware is up to date. Is this a bug in your latest app update? ### 3/5 — More access to firing data. *2026-05-25, version 5.0.5* I love the app for keeping an eye on kiln progress, but I would love more functional help tracking during status over time. Thanks for keeping this app up to date! 🫶 ### 2/5 — Poor communication *2026-04-25, version 5.0.3* Changes are made that are never mentioned in the release notes. Example: The update made 2 days ago mentions changes made to one screen, but UI and functional changes were made elsewhere and never mentioned. As a long time software engineer, I know that this is unacceptable and shows a disregard for the end user. Unfortunately because Bartlett isn’t a software company, this is likely an outsourced app, and the poor release notes (not to mention the awkward, cludgy UI) is typical of this type of app. The best thing Bartlett could do here is to open source (at least) their kiln status API. They’d still have their plus model revenue stream, but would likely start seeing much better apps appear across more platforms than they could imagine, provided the API was well written and well documented. Win-win ### 3/5 — I want to like the app *2025-09-12, version 4.0.1* Unfortunately, comparatively to the Skutt interface, this interface is pretty terrible. I have owned a SKUTT and never had an issue with the interface. Unfortunately, with the Genesis, it is so buggy and the new app updates are even worse. I do love my Cone Art but the engineers are developers that are working on this app really need to hire a UX because the interface is not built for those of us who are in the studio. ### 2/5 — What am I paying for *2025-07-10, version 3.1.8* I monitored my kiln just fine without paying but I thought if I pay I can do more but I can’t the app does not record firings nor does it anything it just shows you in real time what the kiln does ### 2/5 — Like the other reviews say… *2025-06-29, version 3.1.8* This app is so buggy and borderline useless. There was a new update recently that somehow made everything even worse - my kilns don’t even show up now and when I try to add them again, the app tells me they have already been added. ### 2/5 — Not good if using celsius *2025-05-24, version 3.1.8* The graphs do not accurately show the current temp in a firing. All axis are in celsius, but the current temp shown in green is in fahrenheit. ### 3/5 — Works but could be so much better and useful *2025-05-15, version 3.1.8* The app is nice to monitor what your kiln is doing in real time but it would be so much more helpful and useful if it recorded data from each firing so you can analyze what is and isn’t working and have a dataset for maintenance on your kiln. After the Kiln App opens, the splash/load screen of the logo, the screen goes white and never loads to the login screen or anything. ### 3/5 — Doesn’t do much *2025-02-07, version 3.1.5* So the best thing I can say about the app is that it works. That said, it’s good for monitoring and not much else. You can see what the kiln is doing and the app will send you notifications, but you can’t change the program or operate the kiln remotely. My guess is Bartlett decided to not include the functionality for safety, but it does reduce the utility. ### 2/5 — Decent start *2024-12-15, version 3.1.5* The app was a decent start, but it’s been out far too long for there to be no substantial improvements in utility. I’d like to see at least the following: (1) Automatic logging, the only manual aspect should be the users’ ability to enter notes/photos; (2) Create/modify kiln schedules in the app; and (3) Clearly identify amount of electricity used. ### 2/5 — Lacks So Many Wonderful Possibilities *2024-11-09, version 3.1.5* I’m 3 days into working with my new controller and the app and I’m majorly disappointed. I was excited to get the Bartlett controller with WIFI because of the ability to have an app to run my kiln. What I have found it to be is a glorified babysitter where all I can do is check status of my program and run a diagnostic. This app should be far more robust. From the web write up I was lead to believe I would be able to do all the following but I cannot: - Add, edit, firing schedules - Skip a segment of an active firing - Start & Stop my kiln Also I should be able to: - View my completed firings (they should auto add the firings I’ve done) - Power on & off my kiln - See projected time remaining of current firing I’m at a loss as to what makes this an app with paying for when you can do nearly nothing special on it. Green dot on “program” graph seems to be in the wrong place. Why wouldn’t it automatically log each firing since the app knows it is firing? Layout issues galore - I'd love to split-screen the app on ipad, but full screen doesn't even layout correctly and you can't get to buttons/options sometimes. Loses connection / sometimes shows idle during a firing on my iPad, but works fine on my iPhone. Graph sometimes shows current temp dot, sometimes not. Firing time formatting is buggy. Haven't used other features yet. The previous version was much clearer please reverse it back. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — LOVE L&L *2026-05-25, version 5.0.5* So easy to use!! ### 5/5 — Great kiln controller and app! *2026-05-22, version 5.0.3* I love the consistency that the Genesis controller brings to our ceramic process. Potters have enough other issues especially with glaze recipes and application that can cause variation as well as failure, so having the kiln controller allows more precision during firing. With consistent firing schedules using your controller, I am more certain that the issues I do encounter are not due to inconsistent firing, and I can look for other reasons for my glazing issues. I like that we can program the kiln to ramp up slower through portions of the heating cycle where the structure of the clay body rearranges on a molecular level. This likely prevents flaws from forming, which can't be accomplished with a manual kiln. The controller's built-in programs work well, and I like being able to add programs based on other potter's experiences. Programming the Genesis is easy, and the YouTube videos Bartlett has made are outstanding. They are always right to the point, showing how to install and how to use various features of the controller. I appreciate the occasional emails saying Bartlett Instruments Co. will be closed over a holiday, but if we need help, we can check out their online manuals and extensive collection of YouTube videos, all of which are available 24/7! I love that the company cares enough to highlight this, and I'm sure it helps to remind people how they can be more self-sufficient. And again, having support if we need it, is really awesome. Prompt customer service from Real Humans is rare these days, but this family-owned business has always been responsive when I needed help troubleshooting. The Genesis controller keeps the last 10 firing logs that I have been able to download locally and see the actual data that the thermocouples recorded. The KilnAid app for mobile devices has been a game changer for me! I love being able to monitor the kiln temperature from anywhere I have internet access. Seeing the graph of my program and watching the progress is so very helpful and instructive as well. It's nice to be able to save notes on the firing from my iPhone or iPad, or even my computer. Recent additions to the software allowing for a kiln to be stopped remotely will surely be significant for those who can't be onsite continuously during a firing. Another new feature for uploading (and downloading) kiln programs to the kiln from a computer will also be helpful for those who have multiple programs and make changes often. Those who do glass fusing use many different firing schedules and would really benefit from this new feature! The free features are great, but the notifications and advanced monitoring features are well worth the annual subscription fee. Many kilns now come with the Genesis controller as standard equipment, and I have recommended to others who are contemplating a purchase that they make sure their new kiln has a Bartlett Genesis 2 controller. ### 5/5 — Great app *2026-04-17, version 5.0.1* The greatest part of the app is the support by the Bartlett team. The latest version looks great, two options I’ve wanted for a while. I find it useful to know what my kiln is currently doing when I'm out of the room. Suggestions: I'd like to see an estimated or actual time shown for when the current firing program will finish. Something like, "firing will complete at 11:43am." I'd also love the option to be able to create and edit custom programs for the kiln in the app itself. ### 5/5 — Buggy *2025-04-02, version 3.1.5* The app keeps stalling and only fix is to delete and download again. It does not allow you to control or interact with your kiln. It simply provides status reports during firing and relays any error messages. It is good to be able to monitor the kion from another room but that is probably not worth the money ### 5/5 — I love the app! *2022-07-06, version 2.6.999.1* I’m usually home while firing my kiln. But occasionally I may leave my house (within a couple of minutes away) and its very comforting knowing I can check on my kiln and not have to be stuck at the house until it shuts off. I’ve only had this kiln for 4 months, the app is awesome and so convenient. I had a kiln for years before this one and would be stuck at the house or have to get up in the middle of the night to check on the firing or see the temperature. I reviewed it before when I had only run a test and came down hard because I didn’t think it offered enough info, boy was I wrong. Now that I have fired the kiln I can see that my criticism was baseless. I can see now that I get the temperature from all three thermocouples and it indicates which segment I’m in along with the set point. I do look forward to the app they (Bartlett Instruments) has said is coming that will allow me to make a change of a firing on the fly. I understand they will charge for that version while this one was free. I will be happy to buy that although I’m not sure I would be interested if the new app comes with a monthly fee. I was very excited about this but ultimately was disappointed. I have been an evangelist of Bartlett Instruments for years now. I am fortunate that my hubby considers taking the wiring diagram and building the controller from the board a fun project. Fast forward to discovering that the new Genesis 3140 controllers were WiFi capable and there was a phone app and I thought I died and gone to heaven. Don’t get me wrong the this controller is unbelievable in the features it offers, and the ease of the user interface is exquisite. This is truly the next level of kiln control. The phone app though (KilnAid) doesn’t include some vital information while it gives me a temperature reading for each of the thermocouples it doesn’t show which segment I’m in or what that segments temperature (Set Point) that the programs is shooting for. I wouldn’t mind paying for an app that will allow me to make those changes through WiFi but until that is available why not at least give us all the information to make the app a useful tool. I’m disappointed that the app doesn’t allow more complete monitoring of what is happening in the kiln. ### 4/5 — New version is great! *2025-08-08, version 4.0.1* Thanks for the updates to your app. Celsius is working now and the times are reflected for our part of the world.
