## What is Basalt?

Most days, you won't open this app.

You write down what you want to keep up, and how many times a week. Then you tick it off on your Home Screen. That is the whole loop.

A few times a week counts
Anywhere from once to seven times a week. Three runs, two evenings of reading, one call home on Sunday. The week shows where you stand, and a missed Tuesday is just a missed Tuesday.

The widget is the app
One routine per widget, on the Home Screen or the Lock Screen, and the whole widget is the tap. Grid, tower, since day one and more: you pick the look. You only open the app to set a routine up or change it.

More than one routine
Two routines run side by side for free, and with Pro as many as you keep up. Give a routine an end date if you want one, or let it keep going.

A reminder, only when it helps
At the time you pick, and only on days when something is still open.

Plan and calendar
The plan shows what the week asks of you. Put the sessions in your calendar if you would rather have them there.

With other people
Share a routine by code or QR. Whoever follows it sees how it is going and cannot change a thing. Or make it a pact with one person (Pro): you keep the routine together, and the day is done when you have both ticked it off. They do not need Pro to say yes.

Tied to a place (Pro)
Pin a routine to a place on Apple Maps, like your gym. The day ticks off only where it happened.

Quiet on purpose
Monochrome, in light and dark. No feed, no points, no leaderboard, nothing to scroll.

Focus (Pro)
When the phone is what gets in the way: with Pro, Basalt keeps the apps you pick closed on the hours and days you set, and the websites with them. You choose them in Apple's own picker, and Basalt never sees which ones you chose.

Basalt Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. It renews unless you turn it off in your App Store settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Purchases can be restored in the app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.6.0 — 2026-10-31

towers: every routine is now a tower. each day you keep it adds a stone, past the clouds at 30 and into space at 100. miss what you set for a week and it falls, and the next try begins.

people: everyone you keep routines with, as their stone. tap one to see what you share and your pacts.

pacts and places are free again: keep a routine together with someone, or let it count only at one place.

the lock has hours now: choose when your apps stay shut until the routine is ticked off. one window for every day is free, your own days and hours come with pro.

### 2.5.0 — 2026-10-06

basalt now speaks german, french, spanish, italian, portuguese, japanese, korean and traditional chinese.
times follow your phone's 12 or 24-hour setting.
and a few smaller fixes.

### 2.4.0 — 2026-09-25

places now sit on real apple maps. pin your gym, and the day only ticks off when your phone is really there.

the lock holds while basalt is closed: from your lock time, or from midnight, the apps stay shut until the routine is done.

two routines are free, and with pro as many as you keep up. people now live top left on the routines tab. and a few fixes: ticking a routine off always opens its apps again, and two routines that share an app no longer open it for each other.

### 2.3.0 — 2026-09-15

choose a routine per widget: hold a widget, edit it, pick one. several routines on your lock screen at once. tap anywhere on a widget to tick the day off.

the widget faces are new: the day's letters, five weeks of dots, the week as stones. in the widget studio you can try it with demo data before you place one.

opening a routine from its card now zooms out of the card, the way the system does it.

### 2.2.0 — 2026-09-02

basalt now names the app you ran into.

open basalt while a focus is holding your phone and it tells you which routine is holding it and what is still owed. until now it could only say that something was shut. the shield itself leaves a note when it appears, so the app you just tried to open is named rather than guessed. the note stays on your phone and is thrown away once it has been read.

the moment has a proper opening.

that greeting now starts with a short film instead of a fade.
