## What is Basil Private AI Note Taker?

Basil is a private AI note taker for meetings. Recording, transcription and summaries all run on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no server holding your conversations.

WHY ON-DEVICE MATTERS
Most AI note takers send your audio to a cloud service to be transcribed and summarized. Basil doesn't. Transcription runs on the Neural Engine, and summaries are generated locally by Apple Intelligence. There is no account to create, no subprocessor list, and no server to subpoena.

RECORD ANY MEETING
• In Person — capture the room with your microphone.
• Computer (Mac) — capture both sides of a Zoom, Teams or Meet call without putting a bot in the meeting. Nothing joins your call, and nothing leaves your Mac.
• Import existing audio or video files. Basil extracts the audio locally.

TRANSCRIPTS AND SUMMARIES
• A fast live transcript while you record, then a refined, higher-accuracy pass right after the session.
• Transcripts include speakers names and are fully exportable.
• Summaries, action items, decisions and follow-ups, generated on device.
• 60+ languages.
• Full-text search across everything you have recorded.

BASIL FOR LAW
A legal edition for attorneys and firms:
• Privilege attestation — an on-device provenance record documenting that a recording was captured and processed locally.
• Consent log — a timestamped attestation, built to the strictest all-party-consent standard so one workflow works in every state.
• Matters and clients — organize by matter rather than by date.
• Privileged & Confidential labeling on recordings, transcripts and exports.

These are record-keeping tools for legal professionals. They are not legal services or legal advice, and no software can guarantee a privilege outcome. Basil's contribution is architectural: your client conversations never leave your device.

ACROSS YOUR DEVICES
A universal app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Your library syncs through your own iCloud account — your iCloud, not our servers.

EXPORT
Send notes to Apple Notes, Calendar, Reminders and Files.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
Basil Pro unlocks unlimited recording. Basil for Law adds the legal feature set above. Free trials are available on both. Current pricing and trial length are shown on the subscription screen in the app.

### 5/5 — Invaluable Tool

*2026-08-19*

Wow. This app is a great tool to capture notes for meetings and then to summarize them. It detects action items and creates a list. It highlights key points and as a bonus it live transcripts the audio. Reading along is more valuable than I had expected.

### 2.1.4 — 2026-08-18

Basil 2.1 — Speakers

Basil now tells you who said what.

• Speaker labels — after a meeting ends, Basil works out who spoke when and labels the transcript. Runs entirely on your device, like everything else.
• Voice prints — name a speaker once and Basil recognizes their voice in future meetings and fills the name in automatically. Voice data never leaves your devices, syncs only through your own iCloud, and is never created for recordings marked Privileged & Confidential.
• Speakers settings — see every saved voice; rename, merge, or delete any of them (or all of them) anytime.
• Speaker names now included in Markdown and CSV exports.

Also new:
• Auto-stop for forgotten recordings — if nothing has been said for 10 minutes, Basil stops and saves the recording, exactly as if you'd tapped Stop.
• Choose your pipeline — Settings toggles let you turn off summaries or action-item extraction and keep just the transcript.
• Origin badges — see at a glance whether a recording came from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or was imported.
• Live dead-air warning — if a recording is capturing pure silence (a broken audio route, not a quiet room), Basil warns you during the meeting, not after it.

Polish and fixes:
• Long recordings transcribe more faithfully — fixed a bug that could repeat or shuffle passages in the final transcript of longer recordings.
• Computer-mode recordings on Mac no longer come out blank when one audio source stalls (a known issue on Google Meet calls) — Basil restarts the stream or falls back to the microphone and keeps recording.
• Switching to a Bluetooth headset mid-recording no longer interrupts the capture.
• Recordings are found again after reinstalling or moving to a new device, and reprocessing fetches the audio from your iCloud when needed.
• Opening a recording no longer pauses your music.

As always: everything happens on your device. No cloud, no uploads. Your words are yours.

### 2.0.8 — 2026-08-14

Basil for Law

A legal edition for attorneys who need meeting notes without handing client conversations to someone else's server.

• Privilege attestation — generate an on-device provenance record for a recording, documenting that it was captured and processed locally.
• Consent log — record a timestamped attestation that consent was obtained, built to the strictest all-party-consent standard so one workflow works in every state.
• Matters and clients — organize recordings by matter instead of by date.
• Privileged & Confidential labeling on recordings, transcripts and exports.

Turning on Lawyer Mode is free, so you can see how the workflow fits before deciding. The legal features unlock with Basil for Law, or during any free trial.

Also in this release

• A clearer live-transcript experience. Basil now explains that the live transcript is a fast preview, and that a refined, higher-accuracy version is generated right after your session.
• Settings on Mac opens as a proper window.
• Deleting a recording now asks for confirmation in both list views.
• Fixes and refinements throughout.

Everything still runs on your device. No uploads, no account, no server.

### 1.9.1 — 2026-06-25

1.9.1
Two bug fixes:
- onboarding screens hid continue buttons on small screen phones
- deleting a recording now stays deleted even with icloud sync
