It starts out fairly slow but once you can be in a boat it really gets fun. However I am trying to level up to level 5 but every time I do it tells me the app can’t connect to the App Store. Please fix!!! **Developer response:** Yes, the game is currently free up to level 4. Any purchase unlocks all the rest of the levels. As an independent app developer I can't make all the of content in my games free, at least not without packing the games with ads. I feel most games go way over the top with ads, interrupting the game and showing a video every few minutes. Rather than ruin the experience like that I chose to keep ads out of this game but instead require a one-time purchase to unlock the higher levels. Thanks so much for your review, and your support! ### 5/5 — Love it but a couple things missing *2022-01-29* This game is absolutely amazing I love the retro features that this games brings, I also the all the different variations of maps, lures, rods, etc… One thing I would add would be different variations of fish in different lakes. For example in casual northern lakes have bass, pikes, Walleye, and even bobber features for smaller fish like crappie or perch. also adding tournaments for a certain type of fish would be awesome. While the tournaments might stay limited to bass fishing, I'm considering some side-missions or challenges for those other species. ### 4/5 — Needs more levels. *2022-01-27* It took me only maybe a few hours to get from level 10 to level 20 and maybe there should be more stuff and more lakes with bigger bass other than that it’s a great game and would love to see more content and levels. **Developer response:** You're one of the fastest to get to level 20. It will get more challenging as the game keeps gaining more players. When there aren't enough players to compete with for a given tournament the game uses bots to fill in the scores, and they probably don't do as well as real players at the higher levels. It sounds like I'll need to adjust the bots skill level. I'm exploring possibilities for new challenges for players who've reached the highest level. Thanks for your feedback! ### 5/5 — Takes me back to early 90’s console fishing games *2022-01-27* Love this game. I’ve been wanting to find a game like this for a while. Old school fishing game memories relived! Stick with it. As you progress more features are unlocked like reel speed, boats, finesse techniques to attract fish and I’m sure more to come. I’m only at level 4. But it’s fun searching for fishing spots and larger fish. And I only invested a couple bucks for a lot of spending in game cash. The prices for gear are reasonable. It’s worth it It would be cool if you could see the individual weights of your catch at weigh in. And to have more stats like your top catches per location. All in all a great game. Keep the updates coming!! Update: disregard the individual weights comment. I just noticed it on the pause menu :) up to level 7 now! Many more features unlocked with 13 levels to go. Gets better and better 2nd update: Up to level 14. 12 pound LMB is my record. It Just gets more fun as you go. And more challenging. My boat is almost too fast lol So much fun Another suggestion. It would be really cool in the future to have a multi player option. Maybe up to 20 other boats on the water with you, and potentially crash into lol. You could race to get to your hole! Yes, new features keep coming with every level. Some give you an advantage, like better sonars, and some add to the challenge, like damaging your boat if you run it aground. The goal is to start really simple, and then have it keep getting more involved, and hopefully more fun as you go. ### 5/5 — Nostalgic fishing game built by someone who loves tournaments *2022-01-24* I myself am a 80s kid that love those old school games I grew up with. This game reminds me of those great games with a huge updated style. The game itself must have been created by a tournament fan as it is done right. You start simple earn money buy tackle/gear and earn the right to compete in tournaments. My personal hopes is with future updates we will see: An option to compete in either five fish or every fish counts tournaments. For Bass Tourney Challenger I wanted to use the top-down view to keep it casual, and make sure it didn't require the latest phone or tablet to run. That said, there are updates and improvements in the works. ### 4/5 — Bass tourney challenger *2022-01-21* This game is overall really fun and actually very complex. Many moving parts and always things to do. I really liked the beginning of the game for how easy it was to obtain new lures and items however once I unlocked the line tension feature fighting fish became very very time consuming and although the difficulty was fun it was inaccurate. Would definitely recommend to a friend but some things could be fixed or changed! **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! The fish fighting definitely gets more challenging once you reach the level where line tension takes effect. That's especially true if one of the daily lakes you're fishing has relatively large bass for the level you're on. I think the best strategy is to shop for the rod with the strongest line you can find, so the line tension is much less likely to get dangerously high. Fighting a 5 pound bass is much easier on 12 pound test line than on 6, for example. An outfit with a high speed reel also helps take in line more quickly whenever the tension is low enough to reel in safely. Action and casting range are useful, but I think it helps to prioritize line strength, then reel speed. As you reach higher levels and outfits with stronger line becomes available, and fighting fish takes less time unless the fish is extremely large. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Good until you pay. *2022-07-12, version 1.56* The lakes loaded fine and all was smooth, but after you pay to continue they fail to load. That means I either need to have some things that require a purchase, or fill the game with ads. Unless I’m using the worlds most poorly constructed ultralight rod and reel (which I was not, Lv. 3 bait caster), there is no reason any fish on this game should take longer than 3-5 minutes to reel in. Before anyone gets an ideas to make an app/game, do the correct research on said subject matter, ridiculous! **Developer response:** Thanks for the report. At level 3 of 20, some of the tackle is still pretty light-duty compared to the upper levels, and it's possible you hooked into a real monster bass on fairly light line. The vast majority of fish you hook can be landed in under a minute. ### 3/5 — Can’t load new lakes *2022-03-01, version 1.49* Love this game! But as you advance to higher levels, new lakes won’t load. I think this game is perfect. It’s a fun arcade style fishing game with tons of rods, lures, boats, and fish. My only suggestion would be more species like striped bass, white bass, spotted bass, etc. But besides that this is a great game that’s loads of fun. **Developer response:** Thanks for your review! The only suggestion I have is to maybe expand the bass selection past largemouth and smallmouth, and possibly add white and yellow bass, maybe hybrid stripers/stripers and spotted bass. The line breaking in this one depends on a lot of factors, including the action and quality of the rod and reel. Strong line might let you down on a big fish if the reel's drag isn't smooth. This game absolutely reminds me of the pier gameplay of black bass when I was a kid. The next update will allow players to compete in any tournaments up to their current level, not only at the level they're at. Of course you'll only be able to use equipment up to the level of the tournament to keep it fair. Multiple different items maps levels, and it just got released and it’s super underrated.
