Bassoon Fingerings allows for easy retrieval of standard fingerings as well as the ability to save custom personal fingerings and notations about specific ones themselves. As the app comes preloaded with standard fingerings compiled over the developer's 25+ years of study on the bassoon, it makes a perfect companion for the student or band director as well. Fingerings are displayed using standard notation with holes representing the major finger placements and keys named based on standard key names. Fingerings can be saved for notes as high as high F and as low as low B flat! This is especially necessary for all woodwinds but especially the bassoon. There are many improvements that could be made to this app but it appears to have been written by a real musician and it gets the job done simply and clearly. Very well done. ### 4/5 — Neat app *2016-10-02, version 2.0.2* Good clear graphics. Sensible editing so you can enter your own fingerings. More useful for a new bassonist than an experienced one perhaps. Good as a reminder of the less common notes which is easily accessible whilst playing. I would like it to show trill fingerings (tricky I know). This would make it much more useful. Moving up or down the stave requires fine finger control - an option to + or - a semitone would get over this. ### 5/5 — A great pocket reference *2012-09-05* Has all the basic fingerings plus plenty of alternates. You can even add your own if you'd like! Easy to navigate with easily readable diagrams. But the best thing about this app is that you can save your OWN fingerings and edit the existing ones making it much more valuable for those eureka moments when you discover a better fingering or short cut fingering for hairy moments. Sliding the screen to get to the right note needs accurate fingers, but hey, as bassoon players we should just use our thumbs and we will be all set! Links to developers site not currently working. There is real potential with this app, but to make it useful on a day-to-day basis, I want to be able to arrange things with my preferred fingerings "on top." Next, why not allow indexing by category (trills, fingerings by passage/work, etc.).
