Why would you push an app that half of your hardware doesn’t have a pin for makes zero sense if I could give you zero stars or -10 stars for your app update I would. This is ridiculous.

Update April 26, 2026, the new app rendered my device completely unusable. I can no longer connect to the device Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. 

The app has always been terrible, but it’s even worse now. Avoid this product at all cost.

I have had the ultra Q for more than a year. The Wi-Fi sometimes works and sometimes does not. I have had to unplug and plug the unit back in numerous times in the past. I can’t believe after all of these years they still have not been able to fix the buggy problems especially for such a high price point product. In general I am disappointed with the product and that is mostly due to the terrible app and terrible connectivity.

I can no longer control my BBQ Guru through my phone with this ‘improved’ app. I fail to see why I should have to have an account to use the app. I did set up an account but can not set temperatures from my phone. I will be switching to another brand of controller.

I was shocked to find my UltraQ controller was rendered inoperable by this seemingly minor app update.  Having this experience on Easter Sunday as I was about to prepare my family’s dinner feast, I was unable to find anything online or by support call until 2 business days later.  A factory reset of the controller was required to regain app functionality and now to navigate the new UI.

Been using BBQGuru products for years and have been satisfied till today (easter).  Went out to start my cook for today and when I startrd the app was prompted for user ID and password. WTF….. never used this online or through the stupid share my cook thing.  Had a password from when I tried it previously and was greeted with an API error when trying to use that.
Created and new account and was able to login, now being told that i have to update the app on the controller, wouldn’t let me use it till i did.  So updated the app and tried to access my device, now its saying enter the 4 digit bluetooth pin from the screen. Well genius the screen on my ultraq only had three digits and this are steadily going through the roof since the fan is fully engaged and cant lower the temp - magically none of the buttons on the device would work either.  Unplugged it and plugged in my original old bbqguru and bingo it works fine without the stupid app, pin number, or password. 

This is a perfectly example of taking a simple concept and turning it into a flaming POS to add features which a majority of the userbase could give a rats backside about. 
 
Will be moving to the oss versions of bbq controllers moving forward.
