### 2/5 — 6.7.44 significant UI changes

*2026-04-07, version 6.7.44*

I was shocked to find my UltraQ controller was rendered inoperable by this seemingly minor app update. Having this experience on Easter Sunday as I was about to prepare my family’s dinner feast, I was unable to find anything online or by support call until 2 business days later. A factory reset of the controller was required to regain app functionality and now to navigate the new UI.

### 1/5 — Fraudulent app

*2026-01-16, version 6.7.17*

What a joke. This has always been an awful app but the new version doesn’t bring over your existing paired device and has no way to reconnect to a dynaq or downgrade so its a worthless brick

### 1/5 — Huge waste of money

*2026-01-07, version 6.7.17*

Bbq Dynaq is a p.o.s.

### 1/5 — If I could give this app and the ultraq negative stars I would. It has ruined several cooks

*2025-07-05, version 2.2.1*

I cannot state how bad this app and the ultraq product are. The app freezes on IOS but it also causes the controller to freeze from their webpage based control. If you change cook temp or time it causes the UltraQ to freeze. They have not offered any firmware updates since I purchased in 2024. This is a rip off and has ruined 12 plus hour cooks. I’ve had return to using my old CyberQ and CyberCook app on an ancient IPAD because the BBQ Guru APP is broken as is the UltraQ. 350 bucks down the drain. Lesson learned. Avoid this company and buy from ANYONE else.

### 1/5 — Puh… schecht.

*2024-11-13, version 2.2.1*

Alles zusammen ergibt 5 mal :-(

### 1/5 — I have to delete and reinstall to connect blue tooth

*2024-09-05, version 2.2.1*

The connectivity to app is really random.

So I can connect via Bluetooth, but doesn’t seem to show in the app. Hence I have to delete and reinstall just to connect. Also the password reset for email is not working. This is pretty bad!

### 1/5 — Done with this

*2024-08-23, version 2.2.1*

I don’t understand why they can’t get this to work properly after all this time. This is my third controller with them. The first 2 worked perfectly fine but now the latest and greatest is just a really expensive meat thermometer. Don’t bother with this.

### 1/5 — Garbage. DO NOT PURCHASE

*2024-07-04, version 2.2.1*

App never properly worked from the start. WiFi and “share-my-cook” never worked. Bluetooth function was marginally acceptable until the new software upgrade; now it doesn’t work at all.

### 2/5 — UltraQ WiFi terrible

*2024-06-25, version 2.2.1*

App is more than adequate for my purpose in Bluetooth range. But is a major fail with WiFi. Constantly freezing or dropping connection even with strong signal. Avoid!!!

### 1/5 — Hardware is fine. App seriously needs a developer upgrade

*2024-06-22, version 2.2.1*

I have ribs on my BGE as I write this. As an old BBQ Guru competitor user, I can say the new Ultra Q hardware is as good as the original models. The BBQ Guru app, however, is completely FUBAR even after many upgrades and versions. It needs to pretty much have the code thrown out and start over with a strongly skilled programmer who has actually used it to cook brisket, butt or Ribs.
Right now, I can get Bluetooth and WiFi to work pretty well except the chart and app lock when moving in and out of Bluetooth range. Forget trying to use the stupid timer. I simply wanted an alarm after 3 hours to wrap my ribs, but the timer freezes the app when trying to set it about half the time. If I close and reopen the app when it is frozen, Bluetooth and WiFi come back but the timer resets to the last time I set or updated the time to start the alarm. I keep hoping a 3rd party will develop an app that works better with the great BBQ Guru hardware.

### 1/5 — Loses connection

*2024-06-09, version 2.2.1*

App is very buggy and loses connection constantly. Share my cook is an absolute joke. When you lose connection you have to log back into and start a new cook. Tracking temps on this is very frustrating. Smobot is way better, but they don’t make one for the Blaze.

### 1/5 — Truly awful

*2024-06-02, version 2.2.1*

I’ve had this for years with my Weber Smokey mountain. It has worked 50% of the time at best. App is terrible, Bluetooth connection is very spotty and is disconnected more of the time than not. The frustrations this app and device cause make using it with my cooks actually worse than just not using it at all.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2024-04-06, version 2.2.1*

They will stop supporting your device without warning and make you buy a new device which will still have problems with sharemycook. I have a cyberq cloud which still works fine manually. I didn’t have a problem when their mobile app ceased to support my device because they said I could use sharemycook. Then they changed that to a much worse interface that claims to record my device buts it’s inaccurate and has a terrible display. You can’t control any settings remotely anymore. I will never buy anything from these guys again. And it’s not just my device. They stop support on several other versions as well. Blatant money grab and waste creation.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2024-03-28, version 2.2.1*

This thing is so buggy. Every time I make a change to my cyber cute cloud temperature settings. Half the time it freezes and I have to completely close the app and do it all over again get it to accept the change. I miss the website. I miss the ease of configuration. this needs to be redone. I don’t hold a lot of faith in this to alert me any longer. I know I hit a temperature spike last night and I got zero alerts nor texts. Please fix this or bring back the website that worked 100%.

### 1/5 — BBQ Guru has gone to trash

*2024-01-01, version 2.1.8*

I have been a longtime fan and user of BBQ guru. However, the ultra Q and this app are pure trash. If you want an exercise in frustration trying to keep the device connected to either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, this app and device are for you. Despite using this brand for over a decade, it is time to start looking elsewhere.

UPDATE 1 Jan 24: Still absolute garbage! Not only does the devices bluetooth and wifi not work with the app or online, the company “updated” their platform and users lost everything to include most cook history and recipes stored in their online feature website. Not even a warning, just gone! Now stuck with this expensive garbage product and non-functioning app. Stay away.

### 1/5 — Horrible product

*2023-12-25, version 2.1.8*

Just opened a brand new unit I got for Christmas. WiFi doesn’t work at all. Horrible product.

### 1/5 — Absolutely The WORST APP EVER

*2023-12-24, version 2.1.8*

This app crashes, doesn’t open or disconnects constantly. I regret buying the UltraQ because of this hot steaming pile of garbage app. Avoid this half baked company and their app at all costs.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pin?

*2026-06-28, version 6.7.63*

Why would you push an app that half of your hardware doesn’t have a pin for makes zero sense if I could give you zero stars or -10 stars for your app update I would. This is ridiculous.

### 1/5 — Bbq guru

*2026-05-25, version 6.7.49*

I have had this app for almost a year and never had a problem with it until recently and it updates and I had to uninstall and reinstall then get charged 25 dollars to install since when for someone that already has account and set up

### 1/5 — Worthless after update

*2026-05-09, version 6.7.44*

Don’t buy

### 1/5 — Tone Deaf

*2026-05-03, version 6.7.44*

App update disconnected my device and forced me to create a new account. Just what I was hoping for, another user name and password in order to use my grill. Nobody wants this.

### 1/5 — Customer service

*2026-05-01, version 6.7.44*

Avoid at all costs! The customer service is nonexistent, 5 emails and endless phone calls yielded absolutely nothing.

### 1/5 — Great concept, poor execution

*2026-04-26, version 6.7.44*

Update April 26, 2026, the new app rendered my device completely unusable. I can no longer connect to the device Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

The app has always been terrible, but it’s even worse now. Avoid this product at all cost.

I have had the ultra Q for more than a year. The Wi-Fi sometimes works and sometimes does not. I have had to unplug and plug the unit back in numerous times in the past. I can’t believe after all of these years they still have not been able to fix the buggy problems especially for such a high price point product. In general I am disappointed with the product and that is mostly due to the terrible app and terrible connectivity.

### 1/5 — This app sucks

*2026-04-18, version 6.7.44*

I can no longer control my BBQ Guru through my phone with this ‘improved’ app. I fail to see why I should have to have an account to use the app. I did set up an account but can not set temperatures from my phone. I will be switching to another brand of controller.

### 1/5 — A good lesson on how to screw something up

*2026-04-05, version 6.7.44*

Been using BBQGuru products for years and have been satisfied till today (easter). Went out to start my cook for today and when I startrd the app was prompted for user ID and password. WTF….. never used this online or through the stupid share my cook thing. Had a password from when I tried it previously and was greeted with an API error when trying to use that.
Created and new account and was able to login, now being told that i have to update the app on the controller, wouldn’t let me use it till i did. So updated the app and tried to access my device, now its saying enter the 4 digit bluetooth pin from the screen. Well genius the screen on my ultraq only had three digits and this are steadily going through the roof since the fan is fully engaged and cant lower the temp - magically none of the buttons on the device would work either. Unplugged it and plugged in my original old bbqguru and bingo it works fine without the stupid app, pin number, or password.

This is a perfectly example of taking a simple concept and turning it into a flaming POS to add features which a majority of the userbase could give a rats backside about.

Will be moving to the oss versions of bbq controllers moving forward.

### 1/5 — Very Buggy

*2026-04-04, version 6.7.44*

It has always been glitchy. Now I'm unable to log in thanks to an error that simply reads...

[27] api_error error

### 1/5 — App update renders controller invalid

*2026-03-29, version 6.7.44*

The latest update of this app causes my very expensive BBQ guru Dyna Q device to not work any longer. I lost an entire cook because it disabled and will not reconnect.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2024-09-08, version 2.2.1*

Excellent product and excellent customer service. Would highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Mega Kontrolle beim BBQ

*2021-07-14, version 2.1.1*

Läuft wie ein Schweizer Uhrwerk… zu jeder Zeit, an jedem Ort volle Kontrolle über die Temperatur im Grill!
App läuft sauber und stabil.

### 5/5 — Recent app update

*2021-04-28, version 2.0.1*

It is a huge improvement. Most of the bugs i was facing have been resolved but There are still some kinks to sort out. And if devs keeps working on it those should be resolved soon as well. I was giving 4 star initially but was so happy with the update that I ended up giving 5. I hope devs take it as proper encouragement and work on the app further.

### 5/5 — Great customer service

*2021-01-31*

Had a couple problems, made a complaint here. I followed up with a phone call-a great very knowledgeable man listened to the problems I was having. Without any hesitation or question sent me a brand new unit-I shipped him mine back. (I included the probes which I had to rebuy as they didn’t send me new ones and I didn’t ask for them) I was more than happy to pay again as BBQ Guru was so nice to me and prompt.

The new unit does everything right, all the bugs, glitches, errors the other unit was doing are gone.

Temps are accurate, Bluetooth is functioning properly, syncs up to my phone in a couple seconds (was 30 seconds to 5 minutes in the first one).

The first one did do a perfect job of keeping the pit spot on-everything else was a mess.

The replacement one I will be using tmr for the first time but it tested and worked perfectly when I tested it. It read the temps faster, connected super fast.

I think I just had a bad unit, this is a great product. I’ve read that many times and was just unlucky. However with customer support like this-I’d recommend to anyone over any other brand

Great people, good product and over time I’m certain the bugs will be worked out. I’d buy again over any other brand.

My cooker is a 42” Komodo Kamado which is a serious cooker and we have the budget for only the best. BBQ Guru is the best!

Thanks very much

Eric Petersen

**Developer response:** Hey Eric! We are thrilled that we were able to resolve this and that the new unit is working perfectly for you. Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support!

### 5/5 — Great Dashboard

*2020-12-03*

I decided to finally add the UltraQ and wow was that a good decision. I downloaded the iPhone app and a quick firmware update later I was ready to start smoking a pork shoulder. I connected through Bluetooth at first and then connected via WiFi to monitor my cooks while away from my home. No issues at all and it maintained a consistent temperature during the initial 9-11 hours of cooking. I used this device for various cooks since and I have not been disappointed. While the display may be difficult to see during bright daylight, this is not an issue since I prefer the app and its dashboard as I rarely stand next to my cooker. When at the cooker the large display is very easy to read. Additionally, I like the color ring for quick viewing during he night, as I can see this from many of the windows in my home. This is great feedback as going about my nightly business and I can see simply by looking out a window.

As with all new capabilities and technology there is a learning curve for the user and an evolution of the product. But at this point the product and app meets my needs for consistent cooks with quality food via consistent temps.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2020-07-29, version 1.0.3*

Excited to get this new controller and it works great. Any bugs were fixed with the latest update.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2020-07-11*

I just upgraded to the UltraQ from my older cyberQ and this app is such a great benefit to the new temperature controls compared to the old WiFi only connections. Right out of the box it asked me to update the firmware which took only a couple of minutes. Connecting through Bluetooth was quick and easy and the option to record your cook over WiFi was another great addition to monitor my cook. In my excitement to get started I forgot to plug in the fan and got a friendly alert on my Apple Watch that there was a fan malfunction, saved me a big headache when getting started. No bugs or issues during my 9 hour cook on my Big Green Egg. BBQ Guru has made it a lot easier for me to get the perfect cook.

### 4/5 — This app sucks

*2026-03-22, version 6.7.32*

I can no longer control my BBQ Guru through my phone with this ‘improved’ app. I fail to see why I should have to have an account to use the app. I did set up an account but can not set temperatures from my phone. I will be switching to another brand of controller.

### 4/5 — It does what is supposed to do.

*2024-06-03, version 2.2.1*

I’ve done a few cooks with the UltraQ. I’ve had better connectivity once I disconnected from BT and only used WiFi. It's still somewhat buggy because making changes during the cook can freeze the app. During my last cook, BT was off, and I used WiFi with good results. One thing I’ve noticed is that the BEST WAY to use this device is this: 1-set it up once, 2-don’t tinker too much, 3-note your vent settings of the last cook; I also used a sharpie for my fan and mark around where I stay @ around 225 for low and slow cooks, 4- let the guru do what the guru does, let it take over and let go, resist the urge to tinker with the cook. Today I’m making a chuck roast and a pork butt, and I can say I’m pleased with how the device is working. It would be very nice if some of these little tips and tricks were on their website rather than one finding out, which can lead to frustration and poor user experience, which is counterproductive. I’m sure the people at BBQ Guru have put a lot of effort into this device and app; I hope they come up with the app improvements needed; it could also help to have a forum for users on the website to exchange experiences and make it a better system. I own an UltraQ and a DigiQ; I like the DidiQ, which is a pretty solid device. The UltraQ is AS SOLID as the DigiQ; it is just that the app doesn’t help the device deliver a seamless user experience.
The only issue with my cook today was shutting down the BT, and the app didn’t show the soft button to access the Share My Cook feature. But I must admit that I could better control the UltraQ via WiFi alone than BT and WiFi. There's always room for improvement.

### 4/5 — Looks fancy but unreliable connection

*2022-07-07, version 2.1.3*

Update: I sent an email to BBQ Guru and got a very quick response. Apparently the app doesn’t like both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on at the same time. They told me to connect to Wi-Fi and then select Disconnect from Bluetooth in the app. I did that and it is rock steady. It no longer drops Wi-Fi. I’m changing my review to 4 stars. Why not five? Because it’d been nice to know before I ruined a brisket. I was informed an iPhone app update is soon to be released. Hopefully it’ll address this. I have version 3.5.4.

I’ve got a brisket on as I type this. First cook with the UltraQ. The Wi-Fi connection has dropped off 3 time, temperature has dropped off twice and what should be a breeze per advertisement has become equivalent to babysitting a 2-year old. You never know quite what the errant child is going to do next. The temperature profile looks like the California crashing surf. No, the dampers are not to far open. The interface looks fancy but don’t waste your money.
