## What is BCRS?

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium's Beach Conditions Reporting System (BCRS) is an application for the public to view beach conditions reports submitted by trained volunteer Beach Ambassadors. The BCRS provides real and near-time data from participating beaches including parameters such as flag color, water temperature, surf conditions, crowds, respiratory irritation, dead fish, beach amenities and many more! Users can also contribute reports of their own observations through the Community Science Portal on the BCRS. We aim to engage community members in scientific observation and aid in making informed decisions that can both protect public health and improve beach experiences.

Happy beach going!

### 1/5 — Terrible misinformation

*2024-07-28*

I live in Fort Myers, FL and of course I know there is drift algae and other things that affect our waters. But when I am literally standing on the exact beach, that I used the app to determine where I am going for the day, and the app says the water is clear and there is no drift algae, and I am standing in ankle deep drift algae, can’t see the floor of the ocean, and it smells like dead fish, clearly the app is absolutely useless. Deleted and unsubscribed from the emails. I’ve wasted so many trips this summer “chasing” the optimal beach conditions based on the input of the beach ambassadors of this app - I will just take my chances the good old fashioned way. Mother Nature is going to do what she is going to do - I won’t waste my time on these lies.

### 5/5 — Stable & Accurate

*2023-05-13*

The development team fixed the issues with the app and emails. The reports are now up-to-date. I metal detect on the west coast of Florida and find the reports beneficial when selecting which beach to go to.

**Developer response:** Thank you for using the Beach Conditions Reporting System (BCRS). We're sorry to hear the app did not meet your expectations. The BCRS website and mobile app were experiencing some technical difficulties in March-April of 2023 that impacted the system's ability to perform certain functions (conditions reports, contact form, email subscription, etc). These issues have been remedied and the system is now fully operational. We hope you'll continue to using the BCRS. Sincerely, BCRS Management Team

### 2/5 — Worked great when there were actually beach reports

*2023-04-14*

As of April 13 the last beach reports were from March 13. With active red tide in the area it would be nice to have beach conditions.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t currently work

*2023-04-10*

The most recent beach reports are from March 14, nearly a month ago. As users need timely information regarding conditions, this app has become useless.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2023-04-04*

I can’t subscribe to updates because it says my email is invalid. When I try to contact it says my emails don’t match.

### 1/5 — A work in progress

*2023-04-04*

This would be an excellent app if it worked better. Very slow loading reports with spinning wheel. Has trouble taking email addresses. When trying to send comments I was unable as the app repeatedly indicated that my email address did not match, even after copying and pasting.

### 1/5 — Pretty much useless

*2023-02-20*

Check the report dates, almost all are out of date sometimes by months

### 1/5 — Never up to date

*2022-11-14*

When checking your favorite beach make sure to look at the date of the report. Some are over a week old and not up to date. Disappointed.

### 5/5 — Excellent beach condition information

*2021-07-10*

Detailed information for west Florida beach conditions. Daily updates. Very helpful in deciding which beach to visit.
