## What is Be I/O?

Be I/O makes sense of air quality in terms that apply to you.

Rather than broad categories like "moderate" or "unhealthy," Be I/O estimates how much PM2.5 you'd actually take in, right now, doing what you're planning to do. Choose an activity — a 30-minute walk, or a 75-minute hard run — and see whether to Be Inside or Outside for it, and how much of your estimated daily intake it would account for.

Be I/O works out your ventilation rate from optional health details: age and weight, or your resting and maximum heart rate, or — for the fitness nerds — the litres per minute you breathe in each heart rate zone, straight from a metabolic test.

Connect to your own PurpleAir or AirGradient sensors over your local network for near-real-time readings, free and without an account. No sensor of your own? Subscribe to use the public monitor nearest you.

A subscription adds:

* Air quality from the sensor nearest you, wherever you are
* What each run, ride and walk of the last 30 days cost you, from Apple Health
* A week of sensor history (for public sensors)
* The Apple Watch app: current air quality, your estimated breathing rate and PM2.5 intake, each optionally shown against a baseline you choose
* A PM2.5 gauge Apple Watch complication

* Accessibility improvements
* Profile tab is better organized, and shows details about your subscription
* Adds support for devices running iOS 17

Plus a couple bugfixes:

* Launching the app waits until it can find a sensor rather than showing "No reading yet"
* Pull to refresh only refreshes the sensor you're viewing
* Some AirGradient sensors couldn't be reached from the provided location ID
