## What is Beachable?

Know before you go. Beachable reads live tide, swell, and wind data and tells you, in plain language, whether today is worth it. No numbers to decode, just a clear go or no-go for the ocean activity you care about.

The ocean runs on its own schedule. Beachable does the interpretation for you: it pulls from NOAA buoy networks, tide models, and marine forecast APIs, then runs each location through a scoring engine calibrated to that specific activity. What you see reflects the actual conditions at your spot, not a generic regional average.

Beaching
Tide timing is everything. Beachable works out when low tide exposes enough sand to actually use the beach, factors in wave height so a low tide under 6-foot surf doesn't fool you, and gives you a window: how long it lasts and when it returns.

Surfing
Wave height alone doesn't tell you much. Beachable scores each break on swell height, swell period, direction match to that spot's orientation, wind, and tide state together. You get a single honest rating, plus a 10-day forecast so you can plan around your schedule.

Diving
Visibility is the one condition divers can't judge until they're in the water. Beachable estimates it in real time from sea state, swell, and wind data, then scores your dive site and tells you whether it's worth the drive.

Fishing
Tides, swell, wind, and seasonal species data combine into a single fishing conditions score. Current fish counts from local sportfishing landings are pulled live, so you know what's actually being caught.

Set your home location and Beachable loads the best nearby spots for each activity automatically: beaches, surf breaks, dive sites, and fishing grounds, from California to Hawaii, Ireland, Australia, Bali, and more. Every condition is personalized to your coast.

Upgrade to Pro for the full 10-day forecast, custom threshold alerts for any spot in your list, detailed conditions breakdowns, and gear recommendations.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.2.0 — 2026-08-27

Added:
- Settings now has a Privacy section where you can turn off usage and crash reporting.
- The privacy policy explains your data rights and how to exercise them.

Fixed:
- Surf heights read as a tighter range, "2-3ft" instead of "2-5ft", so a forecast says what it means.
- The daily digest notification now actually arrives. It had never been able to send.
- Your alerts no longer disappear when the app reinstalls. They follow the device instead of being stranded.
- Every beach shows its real windows on future days. Only the top beach used to, so the rest read "Not Beachable" until you opened them.
- Notifications are now in your units and your language, matching the spot's card instead of always reading in feet and English.
- The beach banner names the day's longest window, instead of quoting one beach's window under another beach's name.
- Links to beachable.app, including the privacy policy and terms, now open the page instead of switching to the app.
- Surf alerts on spots you added yourself can now fire. They never could before, and nothing said so.
- Your activities are toggled and reordered right in Settings again, instead of on a separate screen.
- The forecast day chips no longer flash while you scroll them.
- The forecast no longer ends on a greyed-out day with no conditions. It shows only the days it actually has.
- Alerts that can no longer be delivered are switched off instead of retrying forever.
- Beach window alerts now arrive in Asia and the Pacific. They were being worked out for the wrong day there.
- The daily digest can now pick Beaching. It was never able to.
- Times in notifications read like the rest of the app, "8:00am" rather than "8:00 AM".
- Your alerts come back if a migration was missed, instead of staying invisible until the app happens to notice.
- The upgrade screen shows the monthly price in your own currency instead of always quoting US dollars.
- Subscription terms on the upgrade screen now appear in Spanish and Indonesian.

### 3.1.0 — 2026-08-20

Fixed:
- Surf forecasts now show a wave height on every one of the 10 days, not just the first few.
- A surf spot's day chip, conditions card and hourly forecast now all show that spot's own wave height. They were showing three different numbers.
- The Surfing tab's day chips and banner now describe your default spot on every day, not just today. From tomorrow onwards they showed whichever of your spots was best.
- Wave heights no longer read as "1-1ft".
- Push notifications now say which activity they are about, and the reading that triggered them.
- The home-screen widget says "Good all day" instead of counting down 115 hours.
- The Swell, Visibility and Beach alert screens no longer float in the middle of the page when you have no alerts.
- The beaching favorites screen no longer offers a second, older way to set your location.
- The tide chart no longer squashes itself into a sliver after switching days.

### 2.7.0 — 2026-08-10

Added:
  - Each activity tab's conditions banner now names the exact spot it's showing.
  - Set your default spot per activity by dragging it to the top of the list in Manage Spots

### 2.6.0 — 2026-08-09

What's new:
• Save multiple locations and switch between them from the top of any tab — keep a home break and a trip destination side by side.
• Get directions to any spot: open its location in Maps to navigate there.
• Expand the Fishing chlorophyll map to full screen to read the water-clarity breaks.
• More accurate map locations for surf, dive, fishing, and beach spots.
• Tide charts now scale correctly at beaches with very high tide thresholds.

• More accurate surf heights from nearshore wave models where available: California, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest, and the East Coast.
• Best Session Time: the best two-hour window to surf each spot today, read from the hourly swell, period, wind, and tide.
• A Surfline-style color scale for surf conditions, from blue for poor to orange for epic.
• The surf spot map now shows the incoming swell direction.
• An Inshore/Offshore toggle on the Fishing tab, with San Diego offshore banks added.
• Spots and conditions update over the air, without an app update.
• Faster app launch.
• Save multiple locations and switch between them from the top of any tab, keep a home break and a trip destination side by side.
• Get directions to any spot — open its location in Apple Maps or Google Maps to navigate there.
• Full-screen chlorophyll map (Fishing) — tap to expand and read the water-clarity breaks.
• More accurate map locations for surf, dive, fishing, and beach spots.
• Tide charts scale correctly at beaches with very high tide thresholds.

Fixed
• Dive sites now report visibility in real feet, so verdicts match what you'd expect.
• Fishing scores each spot on its own conditions, with a sea-state safety cutoff.
• More accurate surf wave heights and swell period.
• Recalibrated beach tide thresholds, including several wide San Diego beaches.
• The high-tide label no longer overlaps the tide chart header.
• Condition colors are now consistent across light and dark mode.
