But, this is one of the rare few that I actually want people to know about. This app not only gives you a huge number of tiki drink recipes, but also helps you adapt your collection of rums and other liquors to each recipe. Lots of other recipes leave you hanging when you can’t find the exact rum they want, but this app helps you a cross reference similar brands and types of rum to find a suitable alternative. Beachbum Berry is a tropical drink legend and a great mixologist. This app will make you able to make “all” the classic tropical drinks. I always reference it as soon as the weather starts to warm up. Thanks for making these recipes available to all of us. ### 5/5 — Terrific, tropical Tiki made easy *2021-02-15* Okay, so that review title may be a little bit hyperbolic, as we all know that delicious tiki is, by nature, pretty complex. Layers of exotic flavorings and spirits meld together to make an ethereal, boozy experience, but they also usually make for an expensive and hard-to-find shopping list. This is exactly where the strength of Total Tiki lies. First off, finding a single anthology with this much authentic tiki is all but impossible. Just try. Second, this app makes it so that there is no more thumbing through lengthy books, aimlessly searching for something you think you can make with what’s on hand. Total Tiki takes the digging and guess work out of finding the perfect cocktail for your tropical evening. Simply selecting the ingredients you have filters down results to the available recipes you can make right then and there. Even better is the feature that auto-applies substitutions based upon your inventory selections. This just further widens your available tiki drink options without requiring you to spend another penny. It’s honestly like having a professional mixologist on standby, catering to your every budget-minded whim. Back to my original point: tiki isn’t simple. Hasn’t ever been, and never will be (at least not without sacrificing a lot of flavor). However, it doesn’t have to be frustratingly complicated or expensive... and Total Tiki proves it! Take a sip and slide into your Polynesian pjs, this app is worth the snag. ### 5/5 — My first and probably only review *2021-02-03* Honestly the fact that this app is so well thought out made me write this review. Not only that, but I’ve been on this tiki craze lately and now I have 288 drink recipes that I can make!! I’ve made about 5 so far and have fallen in love with 1 but didn’t dislike the others. Believe me, I’ll be trying out many more! Hopefully by the end of the year I will have tried at least 50 more. Will update by then 😂 update: I now have 25 favorite cocktails and I know it will only continue to grow from here on out. What a wonderful app. I also got smugglers cove cocktail book but I still use the app more! Even still, this is hands down the best value in all of app-dom! ### 5/5 — The app I’ve been looking for! *2020-05-05* After scouring websites and bookmarking recipes, I stumbled upon this app which is exactly what I hoped it would be! A comprehensive, encyclopedia-like listing of tiki recipes, along with a bit of history on each drink and ingredient. I LOVE that you can check off what ingredients you have, and it will list what drinks you can make, (as well as what you could make if you went out and bought just one more ingredient). This has been extremely helpful in getting our home bar set up by allowing us to narrow down ingredients without breaking the bank all at once. Highly recommend this gem of an app! However was very disappointed to see it didn’t include my favorite tiki drink the “Chartreuse Swizzle”. I emailed my feedback into the creators and they told me it was only included in their OTHER app “Modern Classics” which I would have to pay ANOTHER $9.99 for. So with that I’m unfortunately having to leave a 1 Star review. Seeing as this isn’t really a “Total” collection of their tiki recipes. ### 1/5 — No good *2015-12-13* Why I don't download??????? please tell me why????? Anybody here??? ### 3/5 — Just ok *2023-08-12* Introduces a number of tiki options, that’s the positive. But in my opinion, they’re just not great. It’s good to test to see what you like without having to break the bank going to a tiki bar. But there’s a reason why you you probably never heard of most of these drinks. The app does require a significant amount of ingredients. But not sure it’s worth having to invest time and money. Go with your gut when making a drink, if you think hmm sounds like a lot of orange juice probably is too much. Last drink actually tasted like orange baby aspirin. ### 3/5 — Latest update is faulty *2015-10-17* Just a heads up... the latest update doesn't finish downloading or installing. I am unable to even pause and restart the download, or even delete the app and start again. Love the app in general though!!! ### 4/5 — Near Perfect - But Room For Improvement *2023-07-23* For Tiki aficionados this is definitely the “go to”App for learning how to make all those mysterious Tiki cocktails that look and taste so amazing. There are so many features in this app that make it very easy to see what you can make with the ingredients on hand, as well as see what you need to get to improve your options and expand your repertoire. It’s a five star rated app for me in that regard but I’m giving it 4 stars overall because it’s still lacking on a couple things: 1. More Rums need to be categorized and added to the listings. You can search by all kinds of keywords (for example: “dark, Jamaican, etc…), but often the results are minimal and lacking obvious rums that should be included. 2. A better rum database would be nice. Adding in search categories like the way it was distilled, the kind of base product used to make a rum, years aged, etc… would elevate this app to a full 5 stars for me. 3. We need to be able to add in our own recipes to truly take this app to the next level. I want my own creations as part of the database so I can use the inventory feature on all recipes. Add a filter option for “official” and “personal” recipes to segregate if needed. All in all, this app is a must have but there is definitely room for improvement! **Developer response:** Glad you’re liking Total Tiki! We’ve noted your feature requests, but keep in mind that Total Tiki’s ingredient database is about mixology, not rum connoisseurship—attributes like distillation method aren’t all that relevant to mixing drinks, whereas flavor profile and proof are. If there are obvious rums we’re missing, we’ll happily add them—just let us know! ### 4/5 — Really useful tool *2019-03-10, version 1.2.4* Great app with excellent features. I love that it not only lets me store an inventory of my ingredients and shows what I can make, but also shows me appropriate substitutes and recipes that I’m just one or two ingredients short of. One bug: the journal function won’t show my text as I type or when I’ve saved a journal entry and try to edit it. I can only read my journal entry text on the journal entry list view. Gotta type and edit blind. ### 4/5 — Tiki bar MVP *2019-02-20* This app is a fantastic resource. I love the ability to track my bar inventory and see what recipes I can make. The search, filters, and cross-references make it easy to hone in further and find the perfect recipe. I love the backstories and illustrations that accompany the recipes, and the app is fun and attractive overall. I've only come across a few shortcomings. - A current issue I'm having is that the recipe pages no longer show my notes above the recipe. I still can find them in my journal, at least. (It started happening after I switched phones, and the newest note I added actually does display on the recipe, so maybe it's something to do with using a new device?) - When drafting journal entries, the app's nav bar covers the first 2+ lines of text, (on iPhone 8+, just the first line was missing. On the iPhone XR — taller screen — almost 3 lines are blocked by the nav bar.) so I can't see what I'm typing at first. My workaround is to hit Enter three times before typing anything. The blank lines are removed from the now once it's saved, so that's good. - The ability to add photos to notes/journal entries would be really cool. ### 4/5 — Important feature missing! *2016-02-06, version 1.1.3* I love anything that Jeff Berry publishes, this app included. It's very well designed and I love the updated ingredient/brand recommendations. One important feature missing from this version is a "notes" feature. Jeff Berry's previous app (Tiki +) allowed me to make notes underneath a recipe just as I would do in a real book. If this feature returns, I'd would be an indispensable app. ### 4/5 — Awesome app *2014-06-01, version 1.0.1* So many cool new recipes and a great redesign. Only thing that would make it a 5 star is if the app can keep the phone awake while a recipe is pulled up (disable sleeping), just like the last Tiki+ app did. This would make it even more convenient to use- sitting the phone or iPad on the counter and reading ingredients/steps while mixing would be better without having to stop to wake up the iPhone/iPad. ### 5/5 — This is SPECIAL!!! *2025-08-21* This app gives you direct access to some of the most iconic tiki drinks (and some of the most elusive) created during the heyday of the tiki culture phenomenon. So many incredible aspects I won’t even try to go into them; just understand that whatever contents you have on hand, it’ll tell you what you can make, what you need a few more ingredients for, and what you need a lot more ingredients for, then lists them by name using the preferred ingredients first and then listing acceptable substitutes. Most of these drinks are either the original recipes (Trader Vic’s original Mai Tai) or heavily researched and virtually indistinguishable-from-original drinks. I can’t applaud this app any more or I would! Five stars is not enough for this app. If you like tiki drinks, THIS is the app you want! ## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — My favorite cocktail app! *2025-03-28, version 1.2.10* The app is easy to use and it is very easy to add my inventory of ingredients. It updates every so often to add a new recipe which is nice although if you blink you will miss the name of the new cocktail that was added, and it’s not shown again anywhere in the app. ### 5/5 — Definitely the best tiki cocktail app out there *2024-07-23* I’ve tried at least a dozen cocktail apps, trying to find one that would allow me to easily keep track of my ingredients, suggest recipes based on what I have and also let me keep track of my favorites. The vast majority go for quantity of quality, containing hundreds of poor recipes. Many also have very limited sets of ingredients, either forcing you to choose a specific type and/or not even having a category or type that fits. This app works in conjunction with two other apps from this developer, sharing my ingredient list, to provide a carefully curated list of genuine recipes that I can make, as well as showing my other recipes that I only need one or two additional ingredients for. I love how a given cocktail might have two or three variants, showing how the drink has evolved over time. The many subsets of alcohol types (such as “light rum”, “Jamaican rum”, “dark rum”, “Barbados rum”, etc.) allows me to be more specific about liquors that I like, while using more generic categories for those that I don’t. The apps automatically finds substitutions and doesn’t rule out recipes that aren’t an exact fit to what I have on hand. The *only* feature I would like to have is the ability to enter my own recipes. ### 5/5 — Fantastic app *2024-07-20, version 1.2.10* I use this app regularly. In addition to the hundreds of recipes, it’s great for knowing what ingredients I have and need. My only suggestion is this: I use the “flagged” tag for recipes I want to try and the “favorites” tag for those I want to make again. I would like a third tag for recipes I tried but didn’t care for. ### 5/5 — Fantastic app *2024-06-14* This app has so many great features that I hardly know where to begin. In addition to offering a huge list of recipes, the ability to create an inventory of your ingredients is wonderful because you can immediately see which drinks you can make. I also love being able to create lists of favorites and add notes to each recipe. I use this app all the time. ### 5/5 — The Bum has Done it! *2024-06-03* This app has spurned an evolution in my home bar and has tremendously improved my knowledge of rum and tiki mixology. The wealth of information included within comes from perhaps the most educated man on the topic of tiki drinks. The app is also wonderfully user- friendly, especially compared to similar recipe apps I’ve seen. I look forward to the continued publishing of re-discovered cocktails. This has been one of the best under $20 investments I have made, though, to be fair… the delicious drinks within have cost me far more than $20 in ingredient collecting. You can create an inventory of ingredients you have on hand and then search by “drinks you can make” (or drinks where you may be missing one or two ingredients). I also love the fact that for the most iconic cocktails it has several different recipes, showing the evolution of the cocktail through the decades and as it appeared in different venues. One fix I would suggest: when you mark a cocktail as “Need to try,” it never leaves that list even after you remove the label and mark it as “Tried/Like.” That seems like an easy correction.
