### 4/5 — Does what it does.

*2017-05-26*

It's nicely executed. Would love to see a few advance features but can't argue with how well it works for what it claims to be.

### 4/5 — LOVE the app. Wish it had Watch version

*2016-01-03, version 1.3*

LOVE the app. Wish it had Watch version

### 4/5 — Freezes

*2015-03-23, version 1.3*

After I edit a name, the app freezes. Can't zoom out and there's no complete or done button to back. Otherwise, great app!

### 4/5 — Awesome

*2015-02-11, version 1.3*

This app is great but we need a feature to use our own custom counting sounds. That would be great

### 4/5 — Does what it says

*2014-08-05, version 1.3*

This app does what it says and will do the very simple little job I wanted it for. Mind you even at 69p seems a bit pricey for such a simple app hence only 4 stars.

### 4/5 — A lean bean counting machine

*2013-07-31*

If you are looking for an app about Mr. Bean, keep looking.
9 items/subjects/activities/goals max, so choose what's important.
Editing the labels is easy, but setting colors is tricky: the touch control is too finicky. But a good app for staying statistically vital with your core values.

**Developer response:** Hi, Thanks for letting us know what you think about Bean and helping us improve it. Because of thoughtful feedback from users like you, we've added the ability to have up to 81 counters (Beans) in 9 sheets of 9 counters (Pods)! Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any more questions or comments.

### 5/5 — Beautiful in its simplicity

*2013-05-19*

I love how simple and beautiful this app is, though I do wish there was a way to track my counts over time... so I could see how I improved over time. Perhaps an option to see the stats for a particular count by week or month.

### 5/5 — What a lovely little app

*2013-04-30, version 1.2*

Handsomely designed, intuitive and clever, and just, just on this side of being useful. Perfectly whimsical.

### 5/5 — Simple and easy to use

*2013-04-27*

This is a great app to use. It's incredibly easy to use, fast and intuitive. Highly recommended for just keeping track of random things.

### 5/5 — BEAN!!!!

*2013-04-26, version 1.2*

#iMore told me about this App, so I had to get it! Very very useful this is. My new best friend on the golf course. Thanks #iMore!!!!!!!

### 4/5 — Very good but needs more boxes!

*2013-04-13, version 1.2*

I use this quite a bit, my only real reservation is I'd like to have the option of adding more items to count. I outgrew the existing number very quickly! Good work on this--please keep it up.

### 5/5 — Love the interface, could use a tiny bit more functionality

*2013-02-16*

A very nice little counting app. After using it a while, I'd love for it to operate with less lag and to be able to save and share more than custom preset. It's easy to make little "applets" to do different tasks and I'd love to have multiple going at once and to share designs with other users.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2013-01-17, version 1.2*

adding more than 9 counters and an easier ( more coordinated) color scheme (im terrible at creating a nice color theme) would make it perfect!

### 5/5 — Nice

*2013-01-10, version 1.2*

Really slick UI. Good for keeping score during card games and board games!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Utterly failed me.

*2016-07-24, version 1.3*

So I needed a simple bean counter app and this one looked beautifully designed. After opening it, it asked me if I wanted a tour. I accidentally hit "no". That was the beginning of the end. No matter what I tried, I could not figure out how to do anything at all with the app, other than to add +1 to things. I could not for the life of me figure out how to edit the counters not even do -1. Nor how to get help or the tutorial. I tried long taps, force touches, shaking the phone, swiping everywhere I could think of. Nothing. I even deleted the app and re-downloaded and it all just came back the way it was. No tutorial. Come on. What am I missing? What is the secret to getting into edit mode. You know what? I don't care because I bought another app that was SUPER INTUITIVE. Thanks anyway.

### 1/5 — False advertising

*2016-02-24*

Not nearly as versatile as they say. Pretty colors, yes. But no way to turn off the sound effects. Also, the touch pads are very sensitive, so just picking up your phone you could change a number. In addition, you cannot send a report and it doesn't seem to sync with the Cloud as it says.

There are free apps that do a much better job. Don't waste even a dollar on this one.

**Developer response:** Hi,

Thanks for letting us know what you think about Bean and helping us improve it. Because of thoughtful feedback from users like you, we’ve added manual on/off toggling of sound and iCloud Sync! Simply tap the gear icon in the upper right hand corner and toggle from there.

Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any more questions or comments.

### 1/5 — Few possibilities

*2013-01-07, version 1.2*

I assumed some of the counting would be done for me, like days since something... Doesn't seem so hard to incorporate. I have to do all the counting.
This app isn't really necessary, in my opinion. Kind of stupid, really.

### 1/5 — Need MORE beans!

*2013-01-01, version 1.2*

This app is no good if I can only count 9 things

### 2/5 — Simple but needs work

*2018-11-04*

1. More control of the beans. Locking 9 in a pod is clever for the bean metaphor but I want more control over my beans allowing for only 1 at first and then slowly building to 9 if I choose. But locking us at 9 and no less per screen is bad.

2. Allowing to have more than the description of the beam visible. Ha I g the date constantly visible and the ability to create more fields of info would also be cool. This way each bean is not only differentiated by color and title but also by date and other customizable fields.

I want one bean per day so I can keep track of daily habits. I would need at least the date field to be visible from the zoomed out view.

3. Copy and paste a bean. I will want most of my info the same on each bean, but the date to change essentially. So the ability to duplicate a bean would be awesome!

4. Work with the lock screen, so we can tap to add beans without opening Our phones up for even easier/faster counting.

EDIT: I was thinking a way to simply help with the #1 would be to have the zoom level saved as “last zoom” so when the app resets, or I close out of it and reopen, it will remember the zoom spot I was at and default to it. That way if I was zoomed in bean 2 in pod 2 I will be automatically in the same spot. Make sense? Cuz my needs are to only have one bean showing on my screen at a time. This zoom feature would solve that problem in a really cool and intuitive waY.

### 3/5 — I like it!

*2013-07-03, version 1.2*

But why put a limit on the number of activities?

### 3/5 — A little misleading

*2013-04-26, version 1.2*

Nice for what it does, but the pics of the app that say "Days to go till..." Implies there is also a daily countdown timer - I was disappointed to find out there is not (please add that feature!)

### 3/5 — Good but....

*2013-01-15, version 1.2*

Things that are good:
UI is beautiful
Counting is simple and intuitive
Good color options

Things it needs:
Universal (work on iPad)
Two finger touch to zoom
more than 9 counters
Count up or count down days

Add these=5 stars

### 3/5 — Only 9 counts...

*2013-01-08, version 1.2*

Like its simplicity. Dislike only 9 counts are available.

### 3/5 — Good

*2013-01-01, version 1.2*

The app is great for numbers But there are other things that need to be recorded and it does not let you make notes or change the "since date".

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Sweet!

*2025-01-11*

You’ve got to love an app that has a single purpose, and does it so well. No distractions, masterful touch interface. Thank you, developers and designers!

### 5/5 — Nice to see that this hasn’t been forgotten

*2019-06-19*

I was pleasantly surprised to find an update for this app waiting to install. It had certainly been some time since the last one, but I stuck with this app because it managed to outperform the other counting apps in spite of the bugs. The updated version finally makes use of the extra screen space on newer devices, and it doesn’t act wonky when rearranging counters.

### 5/5 — Simple and beautiful

*2018-07-25*

Does what it says it will do, I use it all the time to keep track of lots of things at once. Love it!

### 5/5 — I love this counting app

*2018-05-03, version 3.1*

I use it to track caffeine intake. But next time I’m selling tickets etc, I can count the different types of sales on the door. Very pleased - I had to look quite hard to find it. Takes a few goes to get used to it. You just have to play with it.

### 5/5 — good app

*2017-01-24, version 2.0*

i like this app, just don't like having dates on each tiles., can u please get rid of dates?, and also the 'i' (info) on bottom right corner

### 5/5 — Useful, simple

*2016-11-25, version 1.3*

Please make this app available on Apple Watch where it would be much handier.

### 5/5 — I love this app!

*2015-10-22*

Bean is beautiful and fun to use. It does what it says, it's simple and very useful. I've found so many uses for this, my only wish is that I could get more squares. They don't even need to be on the same grid. Multiple grids would be awesome! MORE SQUARES!

### 5/5 — Nice

*2015-06-27, version 1.3*

Nice and easy to use...but it would be better if you could make it customizable into more squares in future updates...just need more squares.

### 5/5 — Simple and intuitive

*2015-02-01*

This app does exactly what it advertises. It succeeds because of its simplicity. It's simple and beautiful.

The iCloud backup has come in handy several times already.

### 5/5 — Great little app

*2014-12-15, version 1.3*

An odd little app, beautifully designed, that does exactly what it says on the tin.
