Gentle reminders tell you when a bag is at its best, at the time of day you choose. Beanie also nudges you to rate what you've finished.

CAFÉS WORTH THE DETOUR

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.0 — 2026-11-01

The Coffee Compass has been rebuilt, and it's now on your wrist!

COFFEE COMPASS
• A fresh, Find My-style compass: one big arrow points the way, with the distance underneath.
• Filter between nearby cafés and your saved spots.
• Tap the arrow on your nearest spot to open the Compass straight away.
• Areas with no cafés now say "No Coffee Shops Nearby" instead of leaving you guessing.

COFFEE COMPASS ON APPLE WATCH
• Find the nearest café from your wrist, with the same arrow and distance.
• Switch the café list between nearby and saved spots.

UI POLISH
• Rounded headings and navigation titles throughout.
• A softer page background and refined card edges.
• Coral accents everywhere, plus a dark app icon variant and a dark launch screen.

LIBRARY
• Swipe actions on bean and spot rows.
• Roomier section headings, and your hero bean's name leads.
• Long tasting notes and spot names now truncate neatly.

FIXES
• Custom notes now count toward the Flavour Wheel limit.
• Flavour Wheel labels fade out before they crash into their neighbours.
• Getting Started progress syncs across your devices, and you can dismiss the card.

### 1.8.0 — 2026-10-19

Beanie now looks after your beans even when the app is closed.

Freshness reminders
Get a gentle nudge when a bag is reaching its best, and pick the time of day reminders arrive. Beanie explains why it's asking before it requests permission.

Rate what you've finished
Forgot to rate a bag? Beanie will remind you, so your history stays complete.

Finer grind settings
Numeric grind scales now support half and quarter steps, for those tiny dial-ins that make all the difference.

Richer coffee spots
Spot pages now show amenities at a glance in a clean two-column list. Distance to your nearest spot sits right in its badge, and map markers are a consistent size everywhere, including iPad.

A fresh coat of colour
A new coral accent, an updated app icon, and a matching launch screen. Notifications now show the real Beanie icon too.

Little things
• The Currently Drinking chip shows how long you've been on a bag
• Settings tells you when iCloud sync is off
• Beanie opens fine without an iCloud account and keeps your data on the device
• Bean pages and artwork tiles look right in light mode
• Fixed sheets stacking on the iPad freshness popover
• Fixed a freeze when tapping a reminder

### 1.7.0 — 2026-10-11

Beanie 1.7 has more visual touchups, with new ways to record your grind and remember your favourite spots.

NEW
• Grind dial: set numeric grind sizes on a dial, or pick named settings from an arc wheel
• Price rating: mark each coffee spot as budget, mid-range or a treat
• Amenity labels: Beanie now suggests labels like Wi-Fi, outdoor seating and more when you tag a spot
• Map peek: tap the map button on a spot to see it in place, then expand it without leaving the page

REDESIGNED
• Bean and spot pages have a soft frosted background drawn from their colours, with the name front and centre
• Cards are cleaner and livelier, and roast level and rating animate in when you open a page
• Freshness now shows as a ring, so you can see how your beans are ageing at a glance
• Refreshed colour palette and glass-style icons

IPAD
• Your libraries now live in a sidebar
• Statistics opens as a sheet sized for the bigger screen

IMPROVEMENTS
• Distances to nearby spots update as you move
• Placeholder artwork colours now match everywhere
• Fixed the accent colour tick not appearing on first tap

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-26

A visual refresh for your library, a smarter way to find coffee nearby, and a proper start for new beans.

- A refreshed new look for every card: Bean and coffee spot photos now run edge to edge with a mirrored, blurred fade at the bottom, so no more washed-out strips just to fit a name and a chip. No photo yet? You get a soft, colour-matched gradient instead of a flat block.

- Coffee Compass: Point your phone toward the nearest coffee shop and follow the arrow there! Nearest Spot and suggested nearby cafés are also more accurate now. Previously Beanie was picking places that matched "coffee" well over ones that were actually closest.

- The Beanie Passport: A set of six simple stamps so getting started is much easier!

- Roast level, at a glance: Bean detail now shows roast as a sleek dial instead of a plain label.

- Faster everywhere: Scrolling your library no longer stutters, deleting a bean or spot is instant, and the app remembers your photos properly instead of occasionally losing their blur after sitting in the background.

- Small things that add up: Roaster names autocomplete as you type a new bean, hold the app icon for a shortcut straight into Tumble Bean, your library header controls now use Liquid Glass, and Learn's lesson rows, origin map and processing dial all match the app's new card style.

- I also made your data harder to lose and easier to recover if something ever does go wrong with auto-recovery tools showing up when needed.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-22

Say hello to Learn
Beanie now has a whole tab for understanding coffee. Five lessons cover roast levels, grind size, coffee types, brewing methods, and how origin shapes flavour. Better still, you can play with them. Slide through the roast levels and watch the taste profile shift.

Break a cup on purpose with the wrong grind, then rescue it with a longer brew. Tell Beanie your coffee tastes
sour and it'll tell you which way to turn the dial. And there's a fresh coffee fact waiting each time you visit.

Also new:
- Flavour Explorer has its own home now, so you can browse the wheel any time
- Switch your Coffee and Spots libraries between tiles and a compact list
- Deleting a bean or a spot asks you first
- Set your grind on a coarseness slider instead of typing it

The app has a cleaner look too: a crisp white background in light mode, true black in dark, and cards that carry a hint of their own colour.
Plus the usual round of fixes. The roast slider stays put while you drag it, chips stay readable on every accent colour, and the library header no longer jumps when you switch layouts.
