## What is BEARS?

This application is used to assess speech-in-noise performances for different target-masker spatial configurations, therefore evaluating how well someone can understand speech in the presence of a masking signal, both of which could come from different locations. Simple spoken sentences are repro The procedure and interface are very simple - after adjusting the playback level, the user is prompted to select the spatial configuration for the test (e.g. masker/target located on the front, left or right), and the assessment starts. Spoken sentences masked by noise are reproduced at varying (adaptive) signal-to-noise ratio, and users are asked to select the keywords they recognised for every sentence. After a certain number of iterations their Speech Reception Threshold (SRT) is computed and reported.
