Absolute recommendation! ### 5/5 — This is the one you’re looking for *2025-06-09, version 0.2.11* Insane how long it’s taken for someone to make a GOOD screenwriting app for the iPad/iPhone but finally, at least, someone has! It’s simple, reliable, intuitive, and the developer is responsive and generous. Seriously, save yourself the money and the headache with the other subscription-based apps, and get this one! ### 5/5 — A true gift to writers *2025-03-27* This really is an excellent companion to the incredible macOS version. The breadth of features, ease-of-use, and seamless functionality can’t be overstated. Simply put, I enjoy writing in (beat) and it’s unbelievable that a mobile writing app of this quality costs a generous one-time fee of $12.99. Especially in a digital landscape rife with subscription models. For those wondering: yes, the one fee covers both the iOS and iPadOS version! This is literally on par with the newly released Highland Pro and iCloud file sync works just as well. The dreaded Final Draft Go doesn’t remotely compare, in my book. Whether you’re an aspiring or experienced writer, I think you deserve to try this for yourself! It’s an injustice that (beat) is buried so deep in the App Store search. Most people have no idea this exists and that should change at once. ### 5/5 — Apple doesn’t want you to see this one *2025-03-12, version 0.2.8* Downloaded (beat) on my Mac and was floored. It does everything Highland Pro does but without the awful subscription pricing. When I got to my phone I opened the App Store and searched for it to no avail. Apple has it absolutely *buried* while they (predictably) put up tons of results for subscription apps. Anyway, glad it’s here and glad it’s so good. My need for a phone-based script app is frankly almost nil, but I wanted to pay something to support the developers since the macOS version is free. ### 5/5 — the ONLY app you should use for screenwriting on mobile *2025-03-11, version 0.2.8* I stumbled across this app based on a small comment on a Reddit post where the creator of this app explains how beat can be used on mobile to edit files created in the industry standard screenwriting apps such as Fade In. Having tried all the screenwriting apps on iOS, this is THE ONLY solution that reliable works. It’s really clever to use “file over app” where any files saved in this can be read in other screenwriting apps, and any file written in another app can be imported into this super easily. Finally it’s open source and it’s crazy cheap! Thank you to the author. I’d also suggest putting screenwriting in the title as when I searched “beat screenwriting” it didn’t come up! ### 5/5 — Just works *2025-02-24, version 0.2.7* I was looking for a screenwriting app I could use with the Magic Keyboard that wasn’t going to try and charge me a subscription to use. I’d save your money and get scrinever which will let give you portability. ### 2/5 — New Update made this Unusable. *2026-08-15, version 0.4.13* I loved this app SO much, but it now crashes as soon as I open a document. Really hope this gets fixed, but I need to look for a new program in the meantime. ### 3/5 — cannot download my screen plays! *2026-05-11, version 0.4.5* I love this app. It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s easy to use. I’m able to burn out a screenplay no problem, but I’m also writing on my iPad. I’m running into a problem that I’m not sure if anyone else is running into for whatever reason when I try to save my scripts or download them to be able to print them out or send them to other collaborators. The script will not open for whatever reason it will not turn to a PDF and when I try to open up the script once it saved to be able to send it to someone it says Null. I’m just really stumped and I’m not too sure what to do so that being said I’m giving the app three stars when in reality it should be a full five. ### 3/5 — A once great app! *2025-12-11, version 0.3.6* I have been writing on Beat professionally for almost a year now, and before Decembers update I loved it. Alas the latest update has ruined it for me. Why did you remove the undo/redo button? I found it to be an essential tool, one that I used regularly. Not only that but now you have to scroll up quickly just to get the 'Done' button to appear. Even the colouring of the new interface feels horrible. Such a shame. Hopefully the developers will revert back to the previous interface and undo the changes they so needlessly made. ### 3/5 — Doesn’t work with Google Drive *2024-06-18, version 0.1.6* Works with iCloud Drive but I’m collaborating with non-Apple people. Was hoping it would work with multiple storage services, since the website says it uses your own device storage and accounts (plural), but no, it’s just the one account. Ran into a little issue with exporting to pdf but they fixed it ! ### 4/5 — Good app with to the point features. *2026-03-26* It has all the essential features for a good script writing experience. However, very difficult to find in the AppStore even after writing its name in the search bar. Developers should address this issue for better visibility to the users for their scalability, as it is very decent app and has potential to reach larger customer base in case they can fix their visibility in the apps tore. Else, no complaints from me so far.. ### 4/5 — Great app but need some updates *2025-12-28, version 0.3.9* Overall, I really like the Beat Script app. It has a lot of great features, and it’s genuinely useful for writing and organizing scripts. That said, there are a few features I wish it had that would make it even stronger. First, I wish it offered more granular note-taking options. Right now, notes apply to the entire script, but it would be incredibly helpful to have notes per paragraph or per section. That way, you could attach specific thoughts, reminders, or revisions directly to the exact part of the script they relate to, which would make organizing ideas and revising much easier. Second, I’d love to see a clearer and more visual organization system that shows hierarchy. It would be great to have a way to see how scripts connect to one another—especially for episodic or chapter-based writing. For example, a hierarchy diagram where scripts are visually linked, with arrows showing that one script is the next chapter or episode after another. Something like a left-to-right flow or branching structure would make it much easier to understand how everything fits together at a glance. Even a toggle that lets you switch between viewing episodes individually or as one connected project would be a big improvement. Another feature I’d really appreciate is more dedicated metadata sections. Just like there’s a notes section, there should also be a separate logline section and a separate synopsis section. This would allow you to keep your logline and synopsis clearly defined and distinct from general notes, while still having them connected to the script itself. That kind of separation would be especially helpful when pitching or revisiting projects later. Aside from these wishes, the app is solid and very enjoyable to use. With a few additions focused on organization, hierarchy, and project-level clarity, it could easily become a top-tier writing tool. ### 4/5 — Loving this compared to Final Draft *2025-10-20, version 0.3.2* Honestly this is great, lightweight without feeling feature anemic. Feels much less clunky than Final Draft and is straightforward to use. I just need something that lets me do proper screenplay from my iPad Pro and this is it. Only found one bug so far… I can get “Advanced - Invisible Elements” to display # Sections in the Preview (from the eye icon), but when I toggle it on in “create PDF” and the parser doesn’t seem to want to incorporate section markers to .pdf print for some reason (nor does it display in the “Create PDF” preview, despite displaying in the eye icon ribbon preview function). If they can fix this, I’d say 5-stars presently. (Maybe add a recency sorting parameter to the auto complete for scene headings to make it actually useful and less actions / key presses) ### 4/5 — The best now on iOS *2024-07-18, version 0.1.8* Thankyou so much for releasing this! Beat is superb, and constantly-improved on MacOS, it’s wonderful to be able to use it on the go now. Such reasonable pricing for an app which I consider far beyond Final Draft, Slugline etc… It’s not perfect yet, but it’s already the most useable screenwriting app I’ve tried on a phone. Improvements needed… index cards can’t be moved (surely that’s the point of them?) and it would be nice to have an arrow to hide the keyboard instead of reaching for ‘done’. Given how quick and amazing the developer is, I’m sure these will be solved. The iOS version is slightly behind the desktop in true functionality but having both has been incredible. I use the phone version for read and reference more than editing, though it’s also capable as well. ### 5/5 — Seriously Good Screenwriting App *2026-08-10, version 0.4.11* This app is absolutely perfect for what I need when I want to draft scripts or outlines on the go. 100% worth the money (seriously). The creator seems based too which is a welcomed bonus (please never sell this app to some soulless entity). Thank you for taking the time to make this app! It’s free on Mac as well last I checked, so you can go back and forth as needed. ### 5/5 — The Best Option *2026-03-16, version 0.4.4* Especially with Final Draft’s new cloud-based nonsense, (beat) is far and away not only the best value, but the only easy cross-device option because I can just store my scripts in iCloud or wherever. The only thing I wish is that you could hide the markup in the iOS and iPadOS versions the way you can in the macOS version. Then it would be 12/10 instead of 11/10. ### 5/5 — Should End Final Draft *2026-02-27* All I needed was a Final Draft alternative that allowed me to access my saved files from any device, in my own file structure. Something with super intuitive formatting prediction. AND the desktop app lets you hide the markup. It’s so good. I will say, if you could hide the fountain markup in the iOS version, I would give it a 6/5. ### 5/5 — Wonderful Find *2026-01-19* Not sure why this app is challenging to find, (seems invisible from searching?). Really nice features, excellent free osx companion app, and flexible sync. Got the iOS app for the cloud feature, but the more I use it the more I write on my phone. Bugs fixed quickly after reporting, couldn’t recommend it more. ### 5/5 — Do yourself a favor and get this. *2025-08-24, version 0.3.2* I’m puzzled there aren’t more people using this, as it’s feeling like a no-brainer. I saw a passing reference to this on Reddit and figured I’d give it a try because I need to be able to work from my iPad, so bought this. It worked flawlessly on iOS, and when I got my laptop bag, I decided to get the MacOS version - which is FREE. I found it did everything I needed and more, and I liked the minimalist interface (which you can add a bunch of cool features too through optional plugins). I also appreciate that the developer is reachable and happy to answer questions via email. A few caveats: I haven’t had to do any production-related work, so not sure how fully featured it is on that front. Also, this was my first attempt working in Fountain, so it’s a little bit of a shift, but the tutorial and documentation makes it pretty straightforward, and the app itself has been built to make this a pretty painless transition.
