### 5/5 — Love the real time complications!

*2024-12-16*

Make sure to click allow when it asks you if the Beat Watcher app can update your Health data. Then the complication on your watch will update in real time. It’s amazing.

### 5/5 — I can get an alert look at my wrist & see my heartbeat in real time. Logs your heart rate all day

*2024-12-12*

This measures my heart rate consistently and in the background. No fuss, no upsell, just pure function. The developer is incredibly responsive with updates and communications. This app is a must have if you own an apple watch.

When I look at my apple health data graphed over time, I get actual points of data taken, back to back, all day.

**Developer response:** Great! Thanks for the nice review! I’m so happy you find the app so good and valuable.

### 5/5 — Beat watcher

*2024-10-23, version 2024.2*

Wonderful and helpful app!

### 5/5 — Lifesaver app

*2024-09-21*

I've had tachycardia for decades, and this is the first app that gives me an audible/haptic notification when my heart rate is too high ... instrumental when I'm sleeping or not looking directly at my Apple Watch all the time. I changed my Apple Watch face to "Modular Compact" to use the Beat Watcher (Heart Rate) complication across the entire bottom of the watch, which is very useful when I'm sleeping or I don't have my glasses on.

It's the best money I've ever spent on an app ... for me, it's been a lifesaver. Thanks for making this app and making it so affordable - I regularly promote this app to other veterans with similar heart conditions.

(UPDATE) A few days ago, while I was at the VA Clinic, Beat Watcher alerted me to an elevated heart rate of 127 ... so I pulled out my KardiaMobile 6L EKG device, and I was able to record a tachycardia event. Generally, when the VA takes an EKG, it's normal by the time they settle me into an exam room; however, Beat Watcher allowed me to record a tachycardia event to show my doctor ... without Beat Watcher, I might not have gotten an early warning to the heart arrhythmia and tachycardia episode.

(Suggestion) I want to change the alert tone on Beat Watcher because it currently sounds like every other alert on my Apple watch.	Additionally, I had to disable the iOS11 Smart Stack on my Apple watch to keep using Beat Watcher as expected, not a big deal since Beat Watcher is significantly more important to me than Smart Stack.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the nice review! I really appreciate the kind words about the app and I’m so happy it’s valuable to you. Regarding your suggestion to change the sound, that sound is built into the system alongside the haptic feedback that happens. Changing it would require creating a custom, separate type of haptic feedback and a custom sound. At this point, I think it makes more sense to stick with the system standard as they are well-designed and understood by users. And, regarding the Smart Stack, I understand the issue you're talking about, and unfortunately it's a limitation of the system behavior that it always shows up in the Smart Stack while running in the background. There is not a way for me to disable that as the developer of the app.

### 5/5 — Great tool for ME/CFS & Long COVID

*2024-08-12*

Setup is simple, and the app performs flawlessly. For most ME/CFS/LC patients, monitoring HR is critical for pacing and avoiding PEM.

Just a wish list request if possible: Ability to view and export HR logs/data.

**Developer response:** Hello! You can view the historical data via the Health app. There are likely other apps you could use to export it from there depending on your needs.

### 5/5 — Does exactly what is says

*2024-03-29, version 2024.1*

Excellent for keeping your hr monitor constantly active and tracking your heart rate meticulously throughout tasks or daily activities which don’t warrant a workout session.

Thank you to the developer for sticking to the basics and making an app that does exactly what it says and does it very well!

### 5/5 — Fast help

*2024-02-14*

Quick response to query to developer .
Can see my pulse in real time in Apple Watch when I need it

### 5/5 — The perfect App for ME/CFS Pacing

*2023-11-17*

This App has become essential for me, in managing my energy output throughout the day. I live with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so it’s important that I am careful not to overdo things, and that I don’t go beyond my ‘energy envelope’ (or, I can expect PEM, i.e., a ‘crash’, and the need for much additional rest, and minimal activity).

Beat Watcher helps me avoid overdoing it, by reminding me when I’m above my anaerobic threshold, and burning energy that’s in very short supply. It lets me know when to slow down and rest.

This App is simple to use, and does just ‘what it says on the label’. It’s perfect for anyone looking for help with Pacing for ME/CFS management.

### 5/5 — Success!

*2023-06-29, version 2023.4*

I recently left a review that I really didn’t want to that stated I was finding it impossible to reinstall this app on my Apple Watch Series 7 after something made it uninstall from my watch (I can’t think of anything I might have done to uninstall this brilliant app from my watch because I was really enjoying using it!). I cannot thank this app’s developer, John, enough for reaching out so quickly when I contacted him about the problem I was having reinstalling it on my watch. Together we did everything we could think of to get this app back on my watch - but nothing seemed to work sadly. Well now I’ve returned with a new review to say I’ve finally had success reinstalling this great little app on my Apple Watch Series 7 🎉🎈😁. I had actually given up trying to get this app back on my watch but after updating my watch ‘s OS with the latest firmware release I decided to have one more try getting this app back on my watch - and this time it was a success. In no time at all I had this app up & running again… I’ve no idea what could have been in the firmware update I’ve just installed on my watch that obviously fixed the problem but I’m really happy to be running Beat Watcher on my Apple Watch Series 7 again Thanks again John for all of the time you spent trying to help me get Beat Watcher back on my watch.

### 5/5 — This app helped me manage a severe mental disorder. Thank you, Dev!!

*2023-03-09*

This app and its ability to constantly monitor my heart rate and provide me with alerts at certain BPMs has helped me achieve stability by allowing me to better understand my moods and how they affect my heart rate. Thank you so much for creating this!

**Developer response:** Thank you for the nice review!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-01-22*

Great app once I figured out how to configure settings to prevent the app from opening when in constant heart monitoring mode. Highly recommend it.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the nice review! I’m glad the app is helpful to you.

### 5/5 — Perfect app for my needs

*2022-12-12*

Keeping track of my heart rate continuously throughout the day is critical for addressing my health issues. This is the only app I could find that allows me to see my real time heart rate as a complication (with updates every five seconds like you are in “workout mode”). The ability to run the app in background mode with heart rate alerts is a huge plus.

I don’t find it to be a big battery drain, but that would be an acceptable trade off for me personally. I am disappointed that Apple does not allow the user to determine how frequently they want/need heart rate data.

* I believe that the description for this app indicated a one time fee of $1.99. This price is well worth it, but I was not charged. Just wanted to let the developer know in case this was an error. Please continue to update the app!

**Developer response:** Thank you for the nice review! I’m glad you find the app valuable. The app is usually $1.99, but some days I offer it for free to attract new users in hopes that they will tell other people about it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I paid for the app, now it wants a subscription?

*2026-03-31, version 2026.6*

I paid for this app, think it was eight dollars, and now there’s a subscription? How is this legal?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work in background

*2026-03-08*

If any other running app takes over the watch screen Beat Watcher does not alert you when your heart rate climbs too high. Wish I could force it to always be active or always on top but background mode does not work.

### 1/5 — Buyer beware!!!! Does not track low hr

*2025-10-22*

I have a low heartbeat that I’m monitoring when it gets below 30 bpm. I thought by its description this product would make up for apples inability to go below 40 bpm. I was misled and I can’t get a refund

**Developer response:** Hi, you can request a refund through Apple if you are not happy with the app.

### 2/5 — Apple Watch already have a heart monitor

*2022-11-03, version 2022.10*

The complications on the Apple watch heart monitor is for more superior. it gives you your current heart rate, your resting heart rate, and your walking average.

### 3/5 — Love it but….

*2022-08-29, version 2022.9*

Love this app but it drains the Apple Watch battery really quickly. Im getting about 12 hours of battery life

### 4/5 — only one of its kind!

*2025-03-25, version 2024.5*

hey! i love the app so much its the only one thats been able to provide me with consistent background activity which has been so helpful!

however im wondering if you could please add adjustments to time intervals and different thresholds for activity vs. resting? it would be so much more helpful if i could just get it to vibrate at 30 second intervals rather than 2, and for it to recognize when im sleeping so i dont wake up too often/shaken up. thank you so much!

### 4/5 — SPO2 would be great to have for face widget

*2024-08-07*

This is very useful, but I would like to see the ability to have both the beats per minute rate and oxygen level combined in a singular presentation for the face widget when used in the upper left corner as a major corner presentation feature.

**Developer response:** Hello! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll consider it, but unlike heart rate there isn’t a way for developers to request a body oxygen level reading, so the data may be quite outdated.

### 5/5 — Best app for POTS

*2026-06-23, version 2026.19*

Thank you devs. This app has carried me through my physical therapy during this time after diagnosis. Thank you for being a one time payment too

### 5/5 — Real Heart Rate Alert

*2026-06-04*

Works 24 hours and 7 days a week………very powerful app !!!!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the nice review! Glad you like it!

### 5/5 — Definitely a great app for tracking your heart rate

*2026-05-18*

I am really liking this app/ most definitely useful for being able to set a heart rate and get an alert for when you cross that line.

Very useful for me/cfs when going over that line chews up energy you don’t know you’re burning through.

Stay under your set heart rate as much as possible to gain some recovery from cfs and pem symptoms.

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Effective and simple

*2026-04-06, version 2026.9*

I’m using this all day to help me keep my heart rate down while I have pericarditis. Works a treat. Simple and effective. I had a technical issue and the developer had it fixed before he got my email but still replied very quickly. Paying after testing shows confidence and gives confidence. (I have paid for something I didn’t use. This I do)

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2026-01-10*

Thank you soooooo much for the crown lock in the new update. I can’t tell you how frustrated I get when my threshold lowers and my watch starts freaking out 😂😂 love this app, bought 4 Apple Watches just for this app. I have them setup just like my Fitbit… which I also still wear, as well 😂 can’t be too accurate with that heart rate!

**Developer response:** Thank to so much for the nice review!

### 5/5 — Live Heart Rate!

*2026-01-08*

I had been using Cardiogram for years and when they closed December 2025, the app quit. I spent 6 days looking for an app to show live heart rate on Apple watch for POTS and came across this app. Well worth the $6! Hint: turn on background mode for best data. Eats battery up, but does what I wanted! Thanks!

**Developer response:** So happy you found the app and find it useful! Thanks for the nice review.

### 5/5 — Gostei

*2025-10-06, version 2025.2*

Atendeu exatamente o que eu precisava.

### 5/5 — Exactly what I was looking for

*2025-08-03, version 2025.1*

Searching and searching. Finally found it. Hoping it's not a drain on my battery but still when you have tachycardia issues I'll deal with the battery I guess, unless it makes it unusable. More customization would be welcomed. I also appreciate it not having a silly subscription which would make it a non starter. I also wish there were a logging and export feature to show my doctor. Anyway, thanks Dev..

### 5/5 — Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*2025-02-15*

I’ve been wanting an app like this for so long! Probably for a different reason that most but I can’t believe I found it! I have tattoos which prevent wrist detection from working. The HR monitor and all health features do work. The issue is it doesn’t know when it’s on my wrist. With this app I’m now able to have 24/7 hr monitoring with wrist detection off!!! This is the best app to ever exist! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Please never stop support for this.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the kind words and great review! I’m so happy to see it’s helpful to you!

### 5/5 — Amazing Heart Rate App

*2025-01-08*

I couldn't believe I found an app that lets me increase the frequency of heart rate readings on my Apple Watch, essentially turning it into a sports watch.

The instructions are well thought out, clear, and helpful.

My only wish would be to have discovered this app sooner.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the nice review! I really appreciate your kind words about this app I built!
