## What is BeatMirror?

BeatMirror uses your device's built-in microphone to detect musical tempo in real-time. Just tap start and a graph of your tempo will appear right away, allowing you to scroll through your tempo history and see trends. Perfect for musicians looking to build their internal rhythm, or to see the tempo of their favorite songs in real-time!

TESTIMONIALS:
"BeatMirror truly is simplicity at its finest. That quality is missing from most apps who try to cram too many features into one app thus making it difficult to use and many times buggy. We feel like your app is VERY good. We're reviewing BeatMirror and it will be a part of the next show. It's got nothing but thumbs up!" - Phil Smith of "Drummer's Weekly Groovecast" (podcast)

"When I first heard about BeatMirror, I was kind of skeptical but after trying it out for weeks now and playing with it everyday, I'm mindblown. Alex really wanted to put a focus on helping drummers improve their internal clock and I really think he's done so." - Richard Ducat of "Drummers I Like" (podcast)

"Overall, this app is so quick and simple to use, there's not really an excuse as to why you wouldn't use it during practice sessions, just to see how you’re improving. If you're a drummer, having an app on your phone or tablet like BeatMirror just makes sense." - Laura Barnes of MI-PRO (mi-pro.co.uk)

FEATURES:
Good music needs good rhythm. But learning to stay on beat—learning to groove—isn't always easy. Build your inner metronome with BeatMirror and catch yourself when you're speeding up or slowing down. Here’s what BeatMirror has to offer:
- Wide tempo range. Tempo detection between 35 bpm and 220 bpm.
- Fast. Detects tempo quickly and accurately.

- Custom count-in. BeatMirror gives you an optional count-in before you start playing.
- Versatile. Perfect for solo practice, band rehearsals, recorded music, and you can even use it at concerts!
- Triplet mode. Boost accuracy in triplet-time with the new triplet mode.
- Tutorial. An in-app tutorial gets you up and running in a flash.

TIPS FOR BEST PERFORMANCE:
- Avoid handling your device during tempo measurement.
- Be mindful of competing noise near the device's microphone (e.g., conversation, typing).

NOTES ON USAGE:
- Recorded music. To detect the tempo of recorded music using BeatMirror, follow these steps:
1) Play a song from your favorite music player app using the device speaker (i.e., unplug your headphones). Or, play the song from a different device altogether.
2) Open BeatMirror and start tempo detection, adjusting the tempo range if needed.
3) The song's precise tempo will then be displayed in real-time.

### 5/5 — Fijne app om stabiliteit op ritme te trainen

*2026-08-19*

De app is eenvoudig te gebruiken en meet het ritme van je muziek, zodat je de stabiliteit daarvan kunt meten en trainen.

### 5/5 — Pretty Nice!

*2026-08-04, version 3.0.0*

As a songwriter this is a cool app. Gets you in the ballpark of bpm real fast. I usually have to adjust logic drummer just a smidge but not much. Very useful in a creative sense!

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2026-07-01, version 3.0.0*

Just open the app and play

### 5/5 — Fantastic drumming tool

*2026-05-21, version 3.0.0*

This app is a game changer wish I’d had it years ago, I can’t recommend it enough to any drummers, my band mates love it too. Thx for creating it 👍

### 2/5 — Accurate for Guitar?

*2026-03-20, version 3.0.0*

I'm trying to use this to get faster at playing guitar and I'm comparing it to my metronome. The beat detection (for me bpm of picking speed) seems inaccurate. Anyone have success with this or suggestions? I'd love for this to work, would be a great tool.

### 3/5 — Hot Phone

*2026-03-10, version 3.0.0*

Used for about 90 minutes while practicing with my ensemble and my iPhone 15 pro was hot to the touch when we were done. Don’t know how hot but uncomfortably warm. Didn’t check battery drain.

### 5/5 — Awesome for guitar rhythm

*2026-01-31, version 3.0.0*

This is exactly what I was looking for because I’m struggling using a metronome on strum patterns. I can set the target to a songs BPM and practice going through the chord progression over and over and over until my ears and muscle memory kicks in.

### 5/5 — New version makes this superior

*2025-10-08, version 3.0.0*

Gigging musician here. Just started using it, but I’d say this version makes the Beat Mirror app superior to other tempo detectors that I and bandmates have previously bought and used. Seems to be very accurate. Displays tempo and draws a line in real time. Two different zoom settings. Does fine with 3/4 time also when some others do not. Target tempo is a standout feature, with an illuminated strip showing when you’re staying close. Haven’t used the range option, because for our use it’s way too broad, even though you can slide the range up and down. Wish one could further customize the range to better zoom in on the tempo graph. But overall, really like it so far.

### 5/5 — Great app just have one improvement to mention

*2025-09-16, version 3.0.0*

I work at a recording studio and use this app all the time to find the proper BPM of songs. It’s golden about 95% of the time. The only issue I run into is with tracks where the BPM lands on a decimal (for example, 120.5). In those cases, the app rounds up or down and doesn’t display the decimal point, which can throw me off briefly during a session.

It would be super helpful if a future update added a setting to toggle whether BPM decimals are displayed. That way, users who need the precision can see it right away without second-guessing. Aside from that, the app is fantastic and worth the money.

### 5/5 — Great app

Have been using for 5 years

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0.0 — 2025-04-15

We've got a big update for you today. It's been months in the making, and today we are very happy to announce BeatMirror's brand new Range mode!

It's the same BeatMirror you know and love, but now you have the option to set a nice big tempo range (instead of a target tempo) and start detecting tempo right away. The new Range mode also has a special triplet option for high accuracy in triplet-time. (You'll get a mini-walkthrough when you update the app.) Finally, we've added the ability to listen to whatever you like in your headphones during tempo detection (music from other apps, metronomes, etc.).

I hope you like the new update. And as always, I'd love to hear any feedback you have. Just tap the envelope icon in BeatMirror to get in touch and I'll get back to you ASAP. -Alex

### 2.6.0 — 2022-10-17

Hello! Three new features have come to BeatMirror:
• Zoom: Tap the zoom button (or double-tap the graph) to toggle between zoom options
• Share the Graph: Tap the camera icon to save or share your tempo graph
• Algorithm: Tap the hand/ear icon to try a different algorithm!
I'd love to hear what you think of the new changes (and if you have an algorithm preference). Get in touch anytime by tapping the envelope icon or emailing me at alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com. -Alex

### 2.5.0 — 2022-09-12

Say hello to the new tempo keyboard! Just tap the target tempo button (now with a much bigger tap area) and the new keyboard will pop-up.

You can type in a tempo, tap it out, use the +/– nudge buttons, or even roll the dice for a random tempo. And, just like always, you can drag the target tempo button up or down too.

Big thanks to user Jon S. for the feedback on this.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions, comments, or feature requests—always happy to hear from you. -Alex (alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com)

### 2.4.2 — 2022-06-09

BeatMirror will now retain your target tempo between sessions, whichever way you select it (dragging the button, using the tap pad, etc.). Thanks, Arlene, for catching this!

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please feel free to get in touch any time at alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com—happy to hear from you. -Alex

### 2.4.1 — 2022-03-10

The target tempo button is now bigger! That means it's easier to drag up or down, easier to tap, and easier to see. As you select a new target tempo (whether by dragging the button or tapping on the tap pad) it will also be shown on the big tempo display for easy reading.

Thanks, Tim and Dave, for the feedback on this! As always, please send your ideas, questions, and comments to me anytime at alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com. I love hearing from Beat Mirror users and I (almost always) respond by the next working day. -Alex
